Any ideas for decorating my kids rooms for free....we can't paint...and really don't have any $$4....?

Q. we have a few spare dollars for little things....the walls look really nasty and I would like to cover them in some way even if it's posters....I have a ten year old boy who has his own room and two girls that share a room who are eight and almost two.....they love nature!!! We have lot's of things around the house that I can steal for their rooms. Thanks for any ideas!!!
sorry yes we rent!

Answer
Do you have a tent? Boys love 'em and his mattress will fit in the average size tent.

You can buy stick-up, glow-in-the-dark planets and stars from the dollar store.

Since you rent, I'm assuming you can't make changes that can't be removed easily. Get a roll of Reynold's freezer wrap...it can become 50 feet of coloring, drawing it, invitation for your girls to decorate their room their way...their drawings! Let them go to town with it. It's paper on one side and plastic on the other...holds up really well!

Camping Indoors, need ideas!?

gelcoolgir

I work for a summer camp for kids between the ages 5-10 and this Friday we are having an indoor camping day. We have decided to have four or five tents set up and in each tent do an activity. In one tent for sure we are making smores. We just don't know what other activities to do inside the Other tents. Later on the kids will gather around in a circle and tell stories but we need ideas to do in the tents. Any help!> Thanks!

Answer
Orientaltrading.com have a bunch of great camping crafts that would be good for some of the activities. Other ideas:
Make Bird Feeders
Sand Art
Camp Buckets-Have the kids paint a 5 gallon bucket. They can then use them for seats.
Glow in the Dark hats-Let the kids decorate hats with glow in the dark paints.
Stick picture frames or stick art
Newspaper outfits-Have a tent with a bunch of newspapers and let the kids make hats, skirts, vests, etc out of the paper.
Animal sound and footprint tent-Have a CD of animal sounds and have the kids try and guess what they are. Then have them look at different types of animal footprints and see if they can guess what animal they belong to.
Name necklaces-Get letter and colored beads and let the kids make a necklace.
Nature rubbings-Gather bark, rocks, leaves, etc and have the kids place a piece of paper over the object and then rub with a crayon.
CD Campfire-You will need :Rocks â about the size of a quarter, Sticks, A handful of soil, dirt or sand, White craft glue, Small scraps of red, orange and yellow tissue paper, Toothpick
Cover CD with glue and use a paintbrush or your finger to spread the glue out for an even coat. Cover glue area with dirt or sand and tap off excess.
Use your finger to push back a little of the dirt from the edges, all the way around the CD, to make room for the rocks.
Squeeze out a generous amount of white glue onto the cleared edge of the CD. Press a rock into the glue. Repeat until entire rim of the CD is covered in rocks.
If necessary, break sticks into approximately 4 inch pieces. Using white craft clue, build a "fire" with the sticks by laying them down in a teepee formation, gluing as you go. Let everything dry for
Tear tissue paper into small pieces, approximately 1" or 2" squares. Then shape into flames and glue on. Let project dry completely overnight.

Flowered Placemats-For each place mat, cut 2 pieces of contact paper approximately 12" x 18". Peel the backing off one piece and lay it sticky side up on the table. Remove blossoms and leaves from their stems and arrange them on the sticky side of the contact paper. Press everything flat with your fingers. Some flowers will work better if you remove the petals and use them individually.
Peel the backing off the 2nd piece of contact paper. Place it sticky side down over your arrangement. Do not worry about lining up edges exactly. You will probably get some wrinkles. Just press everything down as flat as possible and your place mat will look beautiful. Trim around all edges with scissors.

Make ice cream-1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 cup milk or half & half
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
6 tablespoons rock salt
1 pint-size plastic food storage bag (e.g., Ziploc)
1 gallon-size plastic food storage bag
Ice cubes
How to make it:
Fill the large bag half full of ice, and add the rock salt. Seal the bag.
Put milk, vanilla, and sugar into the small bag, and seal it.
Place the small bag inside the large one, and seal it again carefully.
Shake until the mixture is ice cream, which takes about 5 minutes.
Wipe off the top of the small bag, then open it carefully.

Any good babysitting crafts? Games? Just things that kids would like to do?

K

Answer
Always bring activities for them to play. It's fun to have new toys! Now that I've babysat for most of my clients at least 3 or 4 times, the kids recognize the tigerstriped backpack I bring babysitting and saunter over to it and check out what games I brought while I'm talking to the parents!
Always bring books with you to read to them at night. Even if they can read themselves, all the boys I've ever babysat for have anticipated the books I bring to read to them. Sometimes, if the kids are 8 or 9, I encourage them to read the book to their younger sibling instead of me reading it to them. Be careful not to encourage competitions (who can run the fastest, etc.). It always ends up with one boy crying that he lost. Always bring stickers, too. You'll never know what they'll come in handy for. With school age boys, they really like things that involve creativity but also have rules. Have a "theme" day. It's really fun and keeps them interested the whole time. Here are some really fun themes to choose:
Baseball
-Make a jersey or wrist band that says their name and name of team they want to "play for"
-Play a 3 inning game of baseball
-Make hotdogs
-Watch "Everyone's Hero" (a cute cartoon movie about a boy and his talking baseball bat)
-Eat popcorn or peanuts
Bugs!
-Catch butterflies/fire flies
-Make "Ants on a Log" (celery topped with peanut butter and raisins/chocolate chips) or "Worms in the Dirt" (chocolate pudding, gummy worms, and crushed oreos)
-Watch "A Bug's Life"
Art (some boys like it and some don't... I'd babysat for this 5-year-old boy for about 3 months and he never seemed to be enjoying all of the sports games and movies I was bringing. Then I had an art themed night and that was really his niche!)
- Make and write a book (one kid can write the story, one can draw the pictures, etc.). Don't influence what they write and draw... I had one kid write a book all about a movie he'd seen and another wrote about playing his gameboy.
- Bring coloring and activity books. (Dot-to-dots and things like that).
- Make cookies and decorate with colored icing
Here are some random games to play:
Volleyball- lay a string on the floor to use as the center dividing line and blow up a balloon to use as the volleyball. You can play too or be the reff.
Go "camping" in the living room- make a tent in their bedroom or livingroom and get a flashlight to use as a bonfire. Tell scary stories and encourage them to make up stories too. Eat marshmellows (pretend to roast them) and, if you can, put some glow in the dark stars on the cieling and turn the lights off.

Answer
Take glow sticks cut them open pour the liquid in a mason jar, then the insides of the jar will be glow in the dark, this makes an awesome lantern. As far as thinks to do play truth or dare, rent some scary movies ( make sure all parents and kids are okay wit scary movies, I know it sounds silly but ya never know, prank calls (keep them under control occasionally the police get involved), and last just talk about anything, generally that never gets boring. Hope I helped good luck!

How to decorate for a backyard summer camp party?

kids tent glow in the dark on Lots of great info. for black light/glow in the dark party.
kids tent glow in the dark image
Q. My 3 year old daughter is having a camp theme party and want to decorate so you really feel like you are camping

Answer
Make a large wooden sign at the entrance to the "Camp Site" and have other signs pointing the way to the toilets and showers, picnic area and wildlife trail.
Set the tents around a central seating area with the campfire as a centerpiece. Lay out low benches for sitting on or just use mats or planks of wood balanced on rocks.
Decorate the inside of the tents with streamers and balloons
Around the edges of the camp, erect some citronella torches. These will keep the bugs away and add to the camp atmosphere.
Place cuddly toys in the tress and bushes for the younger kids to discover or for the older kids, hang plastic bugs around the camp. Use glow in the dark bugs and stars which will be fun later on when it gets dark.
Hang multi colored Chinese lanterns around the garden. Some kids just can't help playing with candles so be careful where you place them.
Set up a food table and cover with green or camouflage cloth. Use plastic tableware or tin plates and cups. Provide bug stickers for each child to personalize his/her own plate and mug. It saves muddling them up.
You can also add:
Bug stickers and tattoes
T-shirts with the name of the camp and date of the birthday camping party

What are some good ideas fo 13 year-old birthday party?

Jordyn_O

Kind of ideas that are not expensive. But memorable! :)

Answer
。slumber party/ camping- if you have a big back yard
you could set up a tent and take your slumber party
outside
。costume party (because its so close to halloween)
。get a jumper- its not just a little kid thing, trust me
。masquerade theme- everyone has to come
wearing a mask, inexpensive; you could easily
make a mask yourself
。get a pinata- again, you think its a little kids thing but, its not its fun and you wouldnt believe
how many teens want to hit one xD
。themed- just pick something you really like.
。If your going to have a lot of people coming, and have
the lights out while dancing, buy some
glow sticks and markers that glow in the dark- real fun
。karaoke- have losts of people make fun of themeselves, you'll be laughing all nite.

hope you have fun! 。-â¿â。

School's out today! What to do with a 6 & 8 year old during the summer?

BeckyBeq

I have a 6 y/o girl and 8 y/o boy and live in the Inland Empire, CA. (North of Orange County) I'm looking for ideas for the summer. Right now I'm planning on one trip to Disneyland/California Adventure before our passes black out. My sis wants to take them to the Discovery Science Center. Swim lessons for 2 weeks in July. Crafts on the way include glow-in-the-dark bug shirts and memory books. Any other ideas?
One more caveat -- my 8 y/o deals with high-functioning autism so some things like day camp are probably out. (He's verbal and well behaved most of the time but has some language processing delays)

Answer
Hi. I have an 8, 13, 17 & 19 year old!! Summer is truly the most expensive, tiring and FUN time of the year for us.

We've manged to get thru many by structuring our days. I try to divide the day and limit certain activities to time slots. My kids are NOT allowed tv, video games or computer from 10-5. Crazy, I know.

6-9am : Mom's quiet time. (I start the day ALONE to drink coffee and gear up for the day). My kids sleep in so it works.
9-10am: Breakfast, get dressed and make beds.
10-12 Outdoor play. ie: bike ride, water play, walk our dog, park time, etc.
12-1: Lunch. The kids help plan the meals, prepare and clean up.
1-3: Arts & Crafts. Mix up activities so not the same two days in a row. Painting, stamping, paper machet, baking, build a tent, etc.
3-4: Chores!
4-5: Back outside. We bring out the sidewalk chalk and make obsticle courses to follow, trails, math problems, just have fun.
5-6:30: Mom cooks and kids can watch tv or play video games.
6:30: Dinner. My kids earn tokens for eating new things and helping clean up.
7:30 Baths, spend time w/family and watch tv together. We try to do family game night once a week.
10: BED!

This schedule gets us thru the day to day stuff, but we have a great time going to Water Parks( we buy an annual pass so we don't pay everytime we go), Nature Centers, Movies and we're looking forward to the Drive Ins!
