I am planning a camping trip with two friends. We need to buy a camping tent but I don't know what size of the tent is suitable for three people. I did a little search online and someone said should choose a tent which can accommodate two more person because there must be some space for the camping equipment. Is this true? Is a five man tent a little larger for three?

Answer
A five man tent is just fine. I do a lot of camping and I use a 2-3 person tent for just me, and a 4 person tent when I take the wife and kid along.

Unless your back country camping you can't go wrong with getting a bigger roomier tent.

Is there any camping other than campgrounds on the Pacific Coast in Washington?

We have two old dogs that do not like to play with other dogs or kids, so campgrounds are not a good place for them. We can either car camp or tent camp- just not with close neighbors. We were thinking Olympic Peninsula, but that is negotiable. Any ideas? And thanks for looking!

Answer
You can camp in our National Forests... if you drive down and of the forest roads (the gravel ones) you'll see places along the side where people have camped before.. you'll see fire rings to use.. BUT these places do not have running water or bathroom, so you'll be primitive camping (where you have to bring all your water to drink and cook with).

I would highly suggest buying Don Wright's Guide to Free Campgrounds. It's a book (an east and west addition) that lists campgrounds in forests and other secluded places that are free and $12 and under for one night's stay. I use it as my camping bible.. I don't want to stay where RVs and generators are... I suggest you get a copy.. it will help you plan your trip better.
Good luck & have fun camping!

I'm 25 and literally never spent any time with kids. I don't even know what to expect out of an 8 year old and I've only met him twice. Anyone got any tips or ideas for building rapport with him beyond just putting him in front of the TV?

Answer
Ask him what he'd like to do.
He will looove the idea that you will play any game he picks out.
Especially the ones his parents don't usually play with him.

Take him outside, and play.
Just act goofy.

Make up a silly game

Bring some playdough!
Sit and play with it too, he'll like that

Make a tent or fort out of blankets/sheets.
Or just under that table
It can be a clubhouse just for you and him
Then you two can play some boardgames in your new clubhouse=)

8 year olds aren't hard to please.
He will be up for anything
As long as you are fun and outgoing, and willing to play he will have a blast!

What are some cool things to do with kids ages 1-3?

I have two little sisters who i babysit all the time. One of my sisters are one.And the other is three.I just can't seem to find enough things in a day for them to do.So basically i would like to know what kids their age would like to do!

Answer
We used to love making forts and tents as little ones. Anything from using blankets and chairs to newspapers or cardboard boxes and stuff. If you roll up newspaper real tight and use a little tape it makes good tent poles. Home made playdough was fun too, there are lots of recipes online. Blowing homemade bubbles. Having an impromptu earth day, picking up garbage in the neighborhood while taking a walk with the wagon or stroller. Going to a park. Free activities in the area, storytime at the library, etc... Listening to music, dancing, making a music video. Make helping out with the housework fun. Google some toddler activities online and you'll probably find lots more!
Good Luck!
