Suzanne

We will have a 4, 7, & 8 year old with us. We are planning to camp in a tent. I would be interested in any suggestions for this or places that have cabins. Thank you!

Answer
Any of the State Park or Army Corps campgrounds would be great. Carter Caves State Park is one of my favorite places to camp. The kids will love the caves if you opt to take a tour. Carter Caves as well as nearly all of the state parks (http://www.parks.ky.gov) have modern bath houses and play grounds. Have fun!

What is the best tent camping site at Lake McConaughy ?

Angie

There will be a group of 4 adults and 4 kids. We definitely want to be lake front so we can fish. We would like somewhere we can have a campfire and adult refreshments. Where is the best place to reserve?

Answer

Why are Christians against birth control, or any form of contraceptives?

kids tent sale on SALE!!! Cartoon dream House Baby Tent Children kids Toys play house ...

Sheree

This has puzzled me for the last few years. I understand that we are to procreate, but lets be "real".

I was watching local news, and they did a story about small family drug stores that don't sale contraceptives because of their religion.

Now picture this. I attend a fairly large church. There is an average of 3 kids per family. Do you see where I'm going? So the parents only had sex 3 times throughout their entire marriage? I highly doubt! They are using some form of BC, either it's withdrawal, plan B, etc.

To add to my confusion, I attended a camping trip with my preacher and his wife. I had a tent with the wife, and soon found out that she was indeed on birth control.

Someone please answer my question, and please don't use Genesis 38:10. Thanks in advance ;)
I know you don't get pregnant every time you have sex! That was an obvious, so I really didn't bother to state it! I'm talking about older people in church. i was in Sunday School one day (with the elders) and they talked about how they wanted to have a set amount of kids, and everyone said Amen! They were all trying to imply that they either got their tubes tided, or used BC.

Thanks for bringing up the Catholics, but the people in the news segment were not Catholic.

Answer
I think you are confusing Christians with one particular Christian denomination - namely the Catholics. And they manage to hang the prohibition off of one doubtful verse in the Old Testament.

What do you know about being on the radio or working at a station?

Seni Seviy

I want to have the job of a radio personality/talk show person...I'm not sure what it's called, or even how to get the job.

If you could tell me all about how much school you need to get this position, and anything else you know about the requirements, I would SO appreciate it!

I know this is quite possibly the most horribly worded question ever.

Basically what I want to know is how much school you need, and ANYTHING else that would be valuable to know.

Answer
I'll make a couple of suggestions as I've done in the past by posting the following essay about getting into radio. As to schools, many high school magnet programs are excellent (I don't know where in life you are, so I'll start there). Many colleges and universities with broadcast programs exist. Emerson College in Boston is one of the best and is run by a dear friend and excellent teacher. The Bayliss Foundation (below) is also something to keep in mind. Good Luck!

Qualifications to jock
No license these days. A good sense of flow, both audio and the entire package. An acceptable voice; quick sense of humor and/or recovery; the ability to handle several tasks simultaneously and take direction - lots of it. You should have a good understanding of how a studio operates, be good with digital equipment and be computer literate. If looking at a musical gig, a base knowledge of all types of music with expertise in at least one genere helps. This can all be be learned as you progress

To get in radio-in the US: Take it from one who started this way. If you want to try radio as a possible career choice, It's easy, really easier than most think. Go to all the local radio stations and tell them you're willing to do anything for little or no money (at first). Including interning (though those are usually for current college students in a broadcasting major). In a big city, that's going to be more difficult than a smaller town, but not impossible.

Maybe they need a Gofer, or a production or promotion assistant. In the old days you used to be able to 'hang out" at a station. That's still a possibility (usually at night) in a small town, but in a bigger city, it's hard because the stations are in office buildings. Anyway, so maybe you get a Gofer or promotion assistant job. Or maybe you're just the kid who hangs out and will go get burgers. Then as people leave for bigger better gigs, you move up. Radio's a very fluid business. People move a lot. Because the only way to really get promoted is to go to a bigger market.

Give it a try. You've got nothing to lose. Study all the stations where you live. Visit some of the websites I'll put below. Go around to all the stations (obviously start with the ones where you like the music - but don't leave out religious stations, foreign language stations etc. anything to get experience and something legit on your resume). Because you've studied the station and listened to their format, you'll impress them with your knowledge; go to the remote broadcasts and get to know the promotion people - the ones hanging banners, in the tent and handing out bumper stickers.

Sooner or later someone will leave and you can say, "Hey, I can do that, I want his job now that he's leaving." It's important you have a driverâs license & clean record, 'cause you'll be driving the station van. Go 4 it!

Also, many colleges and some high schools (especially magnet schools) have radio courses of study and there are private vocational schools like Columbia/Connecticut School of Broadcasting. Emerson College in Boston is the premiere Media College in the US.

If you are interested in a career in radio, check out this great scholarship program from the John Bayliss Broadcast Foundation. It could mean $5,000 towards your tuition!
www.baylissfoundation.org

Maybe you can turn another skill, with accounting, traffic, or engineering into an off-air career. Sales, though not as popular with young people, is a great way to get into radio even if you don't have a great voice. You'll also make more money and work steadier hours - but it's not as glamorous. Radio stations also need engineers, accountants and business managers.

What are some fun activities i can do to keep 5 and 7 year old kids entertained while not spending too much?

BURRiTO

I am going to be babysitting a 5 and 7 year old for almost 3 weeks and i need a few ideas to keep them busy such as crafts and games, that arent expensive. Just anything that will keep them entertained so they arent just watching tv all day.

Answer
Board games are fun. Like: go fish; uno; sorry; candy land

Playdough. Buy a few tubs and you can use every day kitchen utensils to carve up the play dough.

Play outside in the yard or walk to the local park.

Maybe taking a walk to the local library. Some have guest readers come in and read books to the kids. Or the kids (and you) can just hang out and read books.

Maybe you could do some research on a particular subject and plan a theme day around the subject. Pick a subject; find out some interesting facts about the subject. Insects, Bugs, for example. Maybe you could go outside and search for worms, caterpillars, moths, etc. For lunch, you could make "worms" by slicing hotdogs length wise in several slices and drop in boiling water. They'll curl up like worms. Make nature pictures using cut outs out of magazines, etc.

Use different dried pastas to make artwork. Or string onto yarn for necklaces.

Bake cookies. Let them do all the measuring and stirring.

Have a camp out. Either pitch a tent in the back yard and pretend to camp out or set up a tent (or use a sheet and kitchen chairs to make a tent in the living room). Eat campfire food (make smores in the microwave or over the flames of a gas range); eat hot dogs and chilps in the tent. Make up funny stories. Let the kids just play.

Finger paint.

Get a couple of appliances boxes (big enough for them to get in). Have the kids decorate those up like a spaceship; a pirate ship; or a grocery counter.

Kids sometimes need a few ideas, but for the most part, can use their imagination to entertain themselves.

What size of camping tent should I choose?

I am planning a camping trip with two friends. We need to buy a camping tent but I don't know what size of the tent is suitable for three people. I did a little search online and someone said should choose a tent which can accommodate two more person because there must be some space for the camping equipment. Is this true? Is a five man tent a little larger for three?

Answer
A five man tent is just fine. I do a lot of camping and I use a 2-3 person tent for just me, and a 4 person tent when I take the wife and kid along.

Unless your back country camping you can't go wrong with getting a bigger roomier tent.

Is there any camping other than campgrounds on the Pacific Coast in Washington?

mhj

We have two old dogs that do not like to play with other dogs or kids, so campgrounds are not a good place for them. We can either car camp or tent camp- just not with close neighbors. We were thinking Olympic Peninsula, but that is negotiable. Any ideas? And thanks for looking!

Answer
You can camp in our National Forests... if you drive down and of the forest roads (the gravel ones) you'll see places along the side where people have camped before.. you'll see fire rings to use.. BUT these places do not have running water or bathroom, so you'll be primitive camping (where you have to bring all your water to drink and cook with).

I would highly suggest buying Don Wright's Guide to Free Campgrounds. It's a book (an east and west addition) that lists campgrounds in forests and other secluded places that are free and $12 and under for one night's stay. I use it as my camping bible.. I don't want to stay where RVs and generators are... I suggest you get a copy.. it will help you plan your trip better.
Good luck & have fun camping!

I am new to tent camping and need help. How do you use an electrical hookup in a campground?

I am going to camp in a Yogi Bear campground in a site that says "Water and Electrical Hookup". Does that mean I can use an extension cord with a strip on the end of it that has plugs in it?
I can find lots of info on tent camping on the internet, but nothing that explains electrical hookup. I'm a single mom. I hope I can find a veteran camper who can help me with my camping questions.

Answer
Typically, "Water and Electrical Hookups" are referring to convenient places an RV or trailer can plug in to for power and running water. Chances are, you should be able to plug an extension cord with a power strip for running some electrical items.

I say plan your trip as if the electrical won't be available, but bring a few things that will be helpful in case it is.

A few helpful camping tips:
If there's a firepit, bring a couple Duraflame logs. They last a couple hours, don't take any special gymnastics to ignite, and you can always throw regular wood on after the duraflame is burning. Remember to smother your campfire before you go to bed (Shovel dirt on it, etc).

Bring a stiff rake. Rake out the spot where you're putting your tent(s). This way, you don't end up rolling over onto a rock or acorn.

Please, please, PLEASE, clean up when you're gone. Have your kids walk all over your campsite and pick up every little bit of trash possible. (Also, bring trashbags! Not all campsites have convenient trash receptacles).

Check the temperature ranges in advance, and pack accordingly. It's a very long night when it's freezing cold and you didn't bring the winter sleeping bags. Remember that tents catch fire VERY easily, so don't put the tent next to the campfire, and don't bring electrical or gas heaters into the tent.

Bring fresh drinking water. (Those 2.5 gallon jugs with the convenient spigot are good...)

Bring a medical kit w/ all the usual refinements. Kids will always find a way to get boo-boo's.

I can almost guarantee that you will certainly overpack for your first trip. You'll find that over time you'll be able to whittle it down to the stuff you *really* need, as opposed to the stuff you think you'll need.

If you're with someone who is not a morning person, they will be much worse in the morning. Trust me.

Good luck!

How do you make an indoor tent?

Luigi fan

I wanna make an indoor tent with my bed cuz my real tent broke and my freind's coming over and we were ganna camp...
Please answer my question!

Answer
"Tents donât necessarily have to go outdoors. You can make a fun indoor tent thatâs collapsible and will give the kids hours of enjoyment. This tent doesnât need any stakes but you will have to have plenty of fabric.
How To Make A Collapsible Indoor TentSheets can be used to make curtains, tablecloths, and yes, even tents.

Consider sheets instead of other material, since theyâre inexpensive and easy to work with, for this project.

Five twin sheets will make an excellent tent. You can purchase fabric, though, in smaller yardage than the sheets, if youâd like a shorter or smaller tent. Working with sheets makes it easier, since you donât have to measure and cut each side of the tent.

Consider how much floor space you can spare for the tent. Remember that the tent is easily collapsible if it needs to be moved in a hurry. Measure out the amount of space youâre willing to give the tent, then cut a sheet or piece of fabric to that size, allowing a couple extra inches on each side for hemming, and making sure to cut the piece in a perfect square. If one end of the sheet is already hemmed, do not add the extra inches for that side.

The square piece, upon being completely hemmed, becomes the top of the tent. Each of the four remaining sheets will become a side of the tent. Stitch the first sheet onto one side of the tent, at the very top edge. Allow the edge of the tent top to barely hang over the top edge of the sheet. Continue this until you have three sides sewn onto the tent. For the fourth side of the tent, cut the sheet in half, lengthways, then hem the cut edges. Sew the sheet onto the tent, making the fourth side, including a doorway. Make tabs and sew one on the top section and one on the bottom section of each sheet edge. These are used to tie the sides shut.

In order to hang the collapsible tent insert four eye hooks into the ceiling. To make the tent collapse out of the way of guests, insert two of the eye hooks next to the top ceiling molding. The four hooks should align with the four corners of the tent top.
String wire through the tent at all four corners. Wad the wire into a ball shape at each end, inside the tent, to keep it from coming out when hung. String the wire up to the eye hooks, making sure to get the tent top level and even. Simply wrap the wire around the eye hook and itâll hang until ready to collapse.

To collapse the tent just undo the front two wires. To remove the tent completely, just remove all four wires from the eye hooks. The tent is easy to hang again, and the kids will have a blast when they play in it."

How much jewelry will I sell at a craft fair?

kids tents for sale image

CuriousCat

I'm going to a well-established craft fair, but it is my first time selling. I have necklaces, earrings, and bracelets.

Do you have any advice on how many items I should bring? Also, how much can I except to sell?
Specifically, what would be considered a lot of pieces to bring/sell?

Answer
bring ALL your stuff...a packed booth gives more choices (basically a numbers game)...how much u sell will depend on a few thing

originality
materials used/quality
pricing
how much competition at the show
and your display

merchandising your jewelry:
you can use some heavy card stock and a hole punch to hold your jewelry
your name of course should be represented on the card....OR you can tie a ribbon or raffia around each piece with you name

selling:
make sure you are interactive with you potential customers (grab the hand mirror....help with the clasps).....If you used sterling silver, swarovskis, semi-precious gems...make sure you state that...I have found that having kiddie stuff helps sales (the kids come in and mom follows)

as far as pricing:
bring some signs that say 25% off, and if things are not going well USE THEM...it is not that much of a loss, and u will be a goddess for sale prices

general stuff for display:
first for YOU,...pack a lunch and beverages... and have shelter from the sun/wind/rain..make sure to have business cards or contact information and a email sign-up sheet with your future show dates...for your display...if a tent, make it so they have to walk in...i usually have a candy dish and fresh flowers for ambiance...your display is best if done vertically....there are many creative ways to display...even tree branches work...make sure you have a table cloth....i have also found that a HIGH directors chair is best AND elevate your table so people are not straining to see items....display your name big and bold!....and make sure you are wearing/using the products......bring a tote that has..pens staples..scissors...tape..hand mirror....gift bags...receipt book....calculator..glue... painted rocks or paper weights.....anything needed to fix anything last minute...and a change box WITH CHANGE..lol... a waitress apron works too...an intriguing booth will draw in the customers...

Any Q's feel free to contact me!
good luck

They have lost their house.

What is the biggest camping tent available?

big camping tents on Large Camping Tents http://cheaptentsforsale.org/2013/large-tent/
big camping tents image

anonymous

I am leading a youth group camping trip this summer and I'm looking for a very large tent to accommodate optimally 15-16 people? I have looked at several 12 person tents (Gettysburg 12 Family Camping Tunnel Tent, Trekker⢠20' x 16' Cabin Tent and the Copper Canyon 12), but was hoping for something maybe a bit bigger.

Positive reviews about waterproofing is also a must. Our tents last year leaked horribly in the rain, even with the rain fly on and tarp underneath.

Answer
How much money do you have, how big do you need to go?
http://armytents.com/tents/tent-tmpr.html

As far as managing a group several smaller tents would be more suitable, you can arrange the tents around a central canopy for example like the circling of the wagon trains of old. this works best with vertical wall tents of the cabin styles like the Copper Canyon 12 or the Coleman Instant 8. Figure also gear for each camper unless they are on a cot each person will have gear that takes up sleeping space so figure 1 extra space for 3 persons is needed so a four man tent actually comfortably sleeps three, an eight man sleeps 6 and so on.

Personally as having been there done that thousands of times as a scoutmaster, The Coleman Tent family has the best reputation for staying dry in and not breaking the bank, so I highly recommend them.

How to choose a family base camping tent?

Ivy

I am planning to buy a family camping tent, what things should I consider?

Answer
1. Consider how many people will be sleeping in the tent and if you'll be requiring one or two tents to house everyone. Make sure you have enough room for everyone to be comfortable. Every tent has its dimensions specified on the package, listing how many people it will house and how big it is. If you're looking for roomy comfort, subtract the number of people the tent says it will hold by one or two.

2. Figure out what style of tent will best suit your needs. There are two basic types of tents: dome and cabin. While there are a variety of styles of both, each has its own advantages and disadvantages. A dome tent is easier to assemble, having only two poles for the tent and one for the top cover. Since it's shaped like a dome, you'll give up some space in its height. A cabin tent offers more room since it is built in a square shape, but because it has more poles, it can take longer to assemble and be heavier to carry. If you're looking to house more than four people comfortably and have only one tent, a cabin tent is probably the best option.

3. Consider what extra requirements you need in your tent to properly accommodate you and your group. Do you want an extra attached screen room or a tent with several rooms? Do you have a tall person in the pack that will want to stand up straight while inside the tent? Will you be spending large amounts of time inside the tent? All of these things need to be thought out before you buy a tent. There are many varieties of tents on the market that come at a variety of prices.

4. Think about the area where you will be setting up your base camp tent and what the weather will be like. If you'll be camping in a cold region, you don't want a tent that has a screened top with a liner that allows more air inside. You also don't want a tent that allows little ventilation if you're staying in a hot area.

5. Consider the camping experience of the people you're camping with. If you're a novice camper, you might want a tent that's easy to set up. Generally, the fewer poles you have to deal with, the easier it is to set up and take down and the lighter weight.

http://www.quictents.co.uk has quality family tents, you can have a look.

in Washington state; where can I get cheap camping gear?

large camping tents uk on Toilet Tents for Camping | UK | World of Camping

Q. I am on a small budget.

Answer
There are hundreds of camping and outdoor sports shops in Wahington State where you can get all you need at bargain prices.
In Seattle alone there more than two dozen of them, plus the camping sections of department stores, and many of the supermarkets have camping stuff.
A tent and sleeping bag can be got for $80 or less and a butane cartridge stove for $15, with cartridges costing a couple of dollars each.
Or, make a desert burner by punching some holes round the top of a tin can, fill the can with dry sand or soil, and pour methylated spirit into it...not gasoline.
Put the flame out when you're done by just putting a lid over it to keep the air out or drop a larger can over the top, which is also a good storage can for your burner.
Or you could just take a couple of disposable barbecues or a tray and a small bag of coals which can be used for boiling water, cooking in a saucepan or for frying stuff in a fry pan, not only as a barbecue...it's a portable fire.
Make a stand for the pot by knocking three strong tent pegs into ground and slide the barbecue tray under the pot. Smal round trays are easy to find, like an old flan baking tray or similar, or a small biscuit tin.
You can also use a biscuit tin for an oven. See on the cooking link.
An sheet of ordinary thin polythene can be put over tentsto improve the waterproofing and warmth so long as you don't buy a dome tent. Tunnel tents and ridge tents are easy to cover and a set of plastic eyelets obtainable from any camping shop for $3 will convert a sheet of polythene into a flysheet you can put guylines on as an extra flysheet or simply as a cover to sleep under by itself.
For some of my trips don't bother with a tent. I just take a long length of plastic coated washing line and hang a sheet of proofed nylon over it, which I put four eyelets in along each side so the wind pressure is taken evenly all the way along and less pressure is taken by each eyelet than if only corner eyelets were used.
The line gets tied between two trees or onto a piece of rock or however I can fix it where I am. Sometimes I cut a couple of poles to use like tent poles for it.
You don'tneed a load of expensive stuff for camping but with cheap or improvised gear obviously you need to take care and and not try the impossible with it.
You can still get months of camping done in a year though if you have the opportunity.
Have fun.
Cooking....anything you get at home you can cook in the wilds. Especially useful is a wok.
See mine on here...Anything you can cook at home......
More good advice about food and keeping it safe from other answerers too.

Have a good time.

Will my telescope be right for this bag?

I know it's not a telescope bag, but it claims to be durable...plus, proper cases for the size of my telescope are very expensive and difficult to find.

Answer
Yes.

But at that price, don't expect iy to last very long.
I suspect it was only intended for light weight things like raincoats and bed sheets etc.

We have a new wonderful BBQ - It has all the latest gadgets including a spit and a drop down hood. I am used to cooking on my little one and in the Weber. What is something really yummy to surprise everyone with. There will be lots of kids, adults who like all foods!

Answer
Be sure and make a trial run on the new bbq pit! You need to get the feel of it before you have several hungry mouths clamoring for a bite. I used to use my little Weber, too, and moved up to a "big boy", but I swear, I still miss my Weber. It was very straightforward!

Roasted Camp Corn
Serve with additional sweet pepper sauce and Creole seasoning, if desired.

6 ears fresh yellow corn with husks
1/4 cup butter
1 tsp dried basil
1 tsp sweet pepper sauce (such as Pickapeppa)
1/2 tsp Creole seasoning
1/4 tsp black pepper

Remove heavy outer husks from corn; pull back (but do not remove) inner husks. Remove and discard silks; rinse corn, and dry with paper towels. Set aside.
Melt 1/4 cup butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Stir in 1 teaspoon basil and next 3 ingredients, stirring until blended.
Brush corn evenly with butter mixture. Pull husks back over corn.
Grill corn, covered with grill lid, over high heat (400° to 500°) 25 minutes, making quarter turns every 6 to 7 minutes. Pull back husks before serving.

Yield: Makes 6 servings

1 large lemon, juiced
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus more, for drizzling
4 medium to large portobello mushroom caps
Coarse salt and black pepper, or grill seasoning spice blend
3 large, firm plum tomatoes, seeded and diced
2 sprigs fresh rosemary, leaves finely chopped to about 2 tablespoons
1/2 pound fresh smoked mozzarella, thinly sliced

Serving suggestions: garlic toasts or grilled crusty bread, Grilled Tuna Steaks
Combine first 4 ingredients in a bowl or large food storage plastic bag. Coat mushroom caps evenly in marinade.
Place mushroom caps on the grill cap-side-up and season with grill seasoning or salt and pepper. If you are using an indoor tabletop electric grill, preheat to 400 degrees F or "high" setting. If you are using an outdoor gas grill, preheat to medium high; for a charcoal grill, prepare coals and cook mushrooms 6 inches from hot coals. Mushrooms will cook 4 to 6 minutes on each side. Cook mushrooms covered or under tin foil tent and turn occasionally. Combine tomatoes, rosemary, and smoked mozzarella. Drizzle with oil and toss.
Fill mushroom caps with tomato mixture and top with sliced mozzarella. The mushrooms will look like small pizzas. Place caps in oven at 425 degrees F until cheese melts or you can close grill lid or replace tin foil tent over mushroom caps to melt cheese, it will take 1 to 3 minutes. Serve as-is or, place stuffed caps on garlic toast or sliced crusty bread to catch the juices.
Yield: 4 servings

Grilled Sweet Potatoes with Creamy Basil Vinaigrette

For Potatoes:
3 pounds sweet potatoes (about 4 to 5)
Vegetable cooking spray
For Vinaigrette:
1/2 cup plain fat-free yogurt
2 Tbsp chopped fresh basil
2 Tbsp balsamic vinaigrette
2 Tbsp honey
1/4 cup red wine vinegar

For Potatoes:

What type of cheap lighting system to use for amater photography?

mikkialex1

I have done photography in a professional studio for a few years now. I am wanting to start doing some work on the side now out of my garage, not to mention doing pics of my own family. I am using an Olympus E-1 and a Konica Minolta 5D. I have been doing photography outdoors of my kids, but since we are converting our garage to a studio, I need info on indoor lighting. I am on a fixed budget however. Any suggestions?

Answer
A couple of these will get you going nicely. You might not be able to afford decent strobe heads and the cheap ones are a false economy, but these low energy lights are actually quite a good option. And they run quite cool, so they aren't uncomfortable for your victims.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/479658-REG/Impact_VA_903_VA903_Five_Lamp_Fluorescent.html

I bought a couple of similar ones to light up my light tent (I know it's smaller than garage etc) but I think they'd be okay for portraiture.

Other props you need can usually be fashioned out of household objects and cardboard - relflectors, barn doors, snoots - you often don't have to spend any money to get interesting lighting options.

How to clean a camping tent that smells like mildew?

large camping tents on Luxury Tents - Luxury Camping Tents and Camping Equipment ...

Stella

I haven't used my camping tent for quite a long time and it now smells like mildew. How to get rid of this bad awful smell?

Answer
First, you need get a tote and fill it with clean water then add pine-sol in it. After that, you can place the tent, rain fly, tent poles, tent bag, stakes and stake bag in to the water, and leave them soak in the pine-sol solution for an hour or so. One hour is enough for the camping tent to absorb the aroma of the pine-sol solution, and then you will get a fresh smelling tent.

After the tent has soaked in the pine-sol solution for one hour, now you should take it out of the access water and reassemble the tent in your yard. Use water hose to pray the tent off and you should pay particular attention to the fabric on the bottom. Be sure it is thoroughly rinsed.

The last step is to dry the camping tent. You should let the tent air dry both inside and outside. Itâs important to wait until the tent and all the contents are fully dry before you pack it back up. Otherwise, the mildew will return. If you have a large family tent or multi-room tent, then you should wait patiently. If the weather is not good and you cannot dry the tent outside, you should place the tent in your garage or even inside your home or basement to let it dry. One thing you need to keep in mind is never dry your camping tent in a dryer because this could reduce the lifetime of the tent.

How to keep a camping tent clean while camping?

Anita

I will purchase a new camping tent for my camping trip. I wonder is there any way to keep the camping tent clean while camping? Actually, I'm a bit of a neat freak.

Answer
1. Use a ground cloth, or tarp, under your tent. Not only will this keep the bottom of your tent clean, it will keep the floor of your tent dry. Just be sure to tuck the edges of the tarp under the tent so that it does not catch rain.

2. Never wear your shoes inside the tent. When you enter your tent, sit in the doorway and remove your shoes, then place them on a floor mat, rug or towel near the door way. You can even leave them outside by tucking them between the tent and the ground cloth.

3. Bring a Ziploc bag for trash to keep the inside of your tent clean. Don't litter inside your tent--especially with candy and food wrappers which can attract bugs or larger, furrier nuisances. Better yet, throw your trash away in an animal-proof trash can outside of your tent.

4. Pack a whisk broom and dust pan to keep your tent clean. These even come in small, easy to pack camp sizes. Sweep the grit out of your tent every day, and once again before packing it.

5. Never store a wet and dirty tent. If you have to strike camp in the rain or even a heavy morning dew, be sure to pitch your tent again at home to dry. You can pitch it in the sun, a garage or porch. You can even dry it by hanging on a clothes line or over a fence. Clean any stains. If your tent goes into storage wet and dirty, it will come out stinky, sticky and moldy for your next camping trip.

How to entertain toddlers when it rains?

kids tents indoor play on DIY bedouin tent | Kids Teepee Tent
kids tents indoor play image

lennie2008

I baby sit a really active 2 year old. We are usually outside when I sit for her. But when ever It rains we have to stay inside but, she never wants to. She does not like watching D.V.D's, arts and crafts or playing with her toys, all she likes doing is creating GIANT messes.
How should I entertain her?

Answer
- Play hide and seek
- Built a tent out of sheets and furniture
- Color
- If possible maybe you could get her to take a nap?
- Bake cookies or a cake! It's fun, kinda messy, and you can eat it afterwards!
- Find an educational game on the internet for her to play
- Dress her up in a pretty dress and take "model" pictures of her
- Play with play dough
- Write a film/movie, and record it with a video camera
- Play with pets (if you have any)
- Sit outside on the porch and watch the rain (if it's not cold outside)
- Put on a raincoat, boots, and an umbrella and go outside!
- Take her for a drive in the rain
- Listen to music

- Have an indoor picnic - this is my kid's favorite. Make lots of healthy treats, lay out a blanket, and enjoy! Here are some treat ideas.

*Ants on a Log
Take a stalk of celery, spread peanut butter on it, and sprinkle raisins on it
*Peanut Butter Pizza
Spread peanut butter on a tortilla. Peel and slice and an apple. Lay apple slices on top. Sprinkle raisins on top. It's delicious. =)
*M&M Pretzels
Get square pretzels. Get hershey's hugs and warm them until they are soft. Place the hug on the pretzel. Then put an M&M on top of the hug and push it down.
*Peanut butter and banana sandwiches
Spread peanut butter on a slice of bread, and then slice bananas on the bread, and put another piece of bread on top.

This will keep her busy making the treats and then eating them!

Good luck!

What is the craziest/funnest thing you've ever done in your life?

kids tents walmart on Walmart: GigaTent Pirate Hide-Away Play Tent | Kids: Noah
kids tents walmart image

goodluckch

And did this happen when you were young, High School/college, or as an adult? (I just have all kinds of weird questions brewing in my noggin haha)

Answer
The craziest thing I have ever done was a wet t-shirt contest in Daytona on spring break my senior year of high school. I had sex in a bathroom at Disenyworld when I was 20. My boyfriend had his shoes off, and this little kid asked his dad why the man in the stall had his shoes off, and the dad said never mind that son.....lol.

The funniest thing was when I was on a class trip to a school for the mentally handicapped, I slipped on the wet floor by the pool, and all the mentally handicapped kids pointed and yelled RETARD RETARD, and they were laughing at me. It was so funny. Also one time at the beach me and my friends would run down the beach and then when we got close to people we would fall down and act like it was accident. Also, one time we put dog poop in a couple purses and we took the purses to Walmart and burger king and gave them to employees and told them we had found someone's purse. When they opened it up to look for the person's ID they would get all grossed out. It was soooo funny at the time. Now I'm old and think it's gross, but it was funny when I was young.

I just remembered another thing. When I first got married my husband and I went camping. We bought a tent, that was on sale. When we set it up it was just this little tiny tent. So my husband and I had had to sleep with our feet and legs sticking out of the tent. The camp ground was crowded with people, so the next morning when we woke up this little kid was just standing by our feet. He said my tent is bigger then your tent, and then he just ran away.

I want to know what to get my 3 & 4 year old nieces for Christmas?

A

I'm going to be shopping early. I have 4 nieces, a nephew on the way due in December, and my daughter. Kids get expensive so I'm looking for sibling toys or whatever for two of them that they can share. Hopefully something not too expensive. Any idea's are grateful, I already know clothes as an option, but that's not really fun for them until they get older, right?
Also, what do five year old girls like?

Answer
Inflatable bouncer, Jump-o-lene Jump n Gym. Free shipping from Amazon, free site to store shipping from Walmart. Goes on sale about every other week on Amazon. $30-$40.

Playhut tents run about $20. These can be bought at most toy stores.

Playskool Honeybee Hop. It's an active game that can be played indoors on hardwood floor. The kids jump over the spinning bee. $20 on Amazon, goes on sale about once a month.

Dress up trunks. Walmart carries them, you can buy them online. You pay about $20-$30 and get 3 or 4 outfits for dress up.

Walmart has a Homestyle Kitchen for $45. Don't forget free site to store shipping. This kitchen rates 4 stars out of 957 customer reviews. It takes on average 2 hours to assemble.

As for a 5 year old, I'm not sure.

Where is the place Resort in Orlando to stay?

Answer
Are you talking about Disney resorts?
If so, these are my top 10.

#10: Port Orleans Riverside â Riverside, along with the other moderate resorts are ok for kids, but honestly, are better for adults without kids. They are quiet and decent resorts, but not anything overly fun or stimulating for kids. Riverside is the one exception, as they have a very fun pool, a cool boat you can ride to Downtown Disney along with the coolest thing, old time bamboo fishing poles you can rent and fish in the river. Riverside is a great resorts as well if you have three kids, as many of the rooms will sleep 5, the only moderate resort that has this amenity.

#9: Pop Century â While Pop Century, and the #8 All-Stars, were built for kids and families, they really arenât the best resorts for kids. The pools do not have slides, and the resorts tend to get pretty crowded and often loud. Granted, Pop Century is well thought out and it is a fun resort. It has several big pools and a great arcade and food court, and plenty of Disney magic.

#8: All-Stars â While technically I would put All-Star Movies here at #8, in reality, the All-Stars are basically identical with only their theme separating the resorts. These resorts are similar to Pop Century, in not having a slide at the pools, but they have fun themes that kids seem to love. Whether your kids are into Sports, music or Disney Movies, you can find something at one of these resorts to make your kids happy.

#7: Disneyâs Fort Wilderness - Fort Wilderness offers both camping spots for tents, trailers and RVs as well as cool Wilderness Cabins. Kids love camping, and if you donât want to rough it, the cabins are a great answer. Fort Wilderness has fun activities from campfires at night to hay rides and golf carts you can rent. A fun resort to spend time at for kids and adults.

#6: Polynesian â The Polynesian has many great attractions for kids, a great pool with ultra cool volcano slide, a beach, the monorail and a great view of the Magic Kingdom. The rooms are fun, and you really get into the feel of the Polynesian, especially at night, with the tiki torches. Plus, all kids love sitting on the beach and watching the water parade at night.

#5: Boardwalk Inn â Disneyâs Boardwalk Inn is a great kids resort, with a fantastic roller coaster water slide at the pool, a great location near Epcot and Disneyâs Hollywood Studios and the Boardwalk right out your door. Not only are there great restaurants on the Boardwalk, including the ESPN Zone, but you can also rent surrey bikes and hang out and watch the buskers, where are a blast.

#4: Wilderness Lodge â The Wilderness Lodge is a great resort for kids, with a fun, swimming hole type pool, great courtyard area and one of the funnest restaurants in Disney, Whispering Canyon Cafe. Plus, there is a great boat ride over to the Magic Kingdom available if you wish. Also, you can get a room with bunk beds, which always seems to solve a few fights over sharing a bed between the kids. Now, you just have to deal with the fight over who gets to sleep on the top bunk.

#3: Beach Club/Yacht Club â While technically the Beach and Yacht Club are separate resorts, in most cases, they really are only one resort. The Beach Club and Yacht Club have the best pool by far at WDW, Stormalong Bay. In addition to the great water slide, this sand bottom pool has a lazy river, a whirlpool and many other fun places to explore. Kind of like having your own water park outside your hotel room. Plus, the Yacht and Beach Club is right next to Epcot, and not far from the Boardwalk and Disneyâs Hollywood Studio.

#2: Contemporary â there is just something magical about the Contemporary for kids. I donât know if it is the monorail running through the lobby every few minutes, or the great views of the Magic Kingdom from the room, or the kids pool that is out in Bay Lake. The rooms are fun, just having been totally redone, and have nice balconies where kids can hang out and watch the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom. Plus, it is only a 5 minute walk over the Magic Kingdom if you donât want to wait for the monorail, the only resort you can walk to the Magic Kingdom from.

#1: Animal Kingdom Lodge - Well, kind of a no brainer for me. The Animal Kingdom Lodge is my kids favorite resort, and that holds true for most kids I have ever asked. With rooms right on savannas, kids can sit and watch the animals for hours from their rooms. Plus, there is a great pool with super fun water slide and you can even see animals from the pool area. Just a great place for kids to stay, they never seem to complain when you are leaving the parks to head back to the resort.

What are some games and activities to play while babysitting 3 boys?

kids tent games on This Fall, make your birthday celebration one your child will never ...
kids tent games image

Squeegee B

I babysit for this family quite often. Their kids are 7, 5, and 2. I always bring games, activities, videos, and books for them so they don't ever get bored while I'm there. (All 3 kids are boys!)Normally I do "themed" nights (We've had Baseball Night- play baseball, eat hotdogs for dinner, and watch a baseball movie. We've had 4th of July- fireworks craft and make cookies with red, white, and blue icing. We've had the Olympics Night and so on...) I'm kind of running out of ideas and activities and games to bring. Normally I'm there at night for 2 or 3 hours (7-10 pm) and the 2 year old is asleep by 7:45 and the other kids go to bed at 9:00... What are some more activities I can bring or games we can play that will be fun for them???
Take into consideration that they really don't like to play games that involve competition... One of them always loses and cries.

Answer
Well, first, congratulations on coming up with "themed" nights. That sounds like fun!

They're still pretty young, which severely limits how much you can do, but let me see...

Bugs Night...Watch A Bug's Life and make "Ants on Log" (Celery, Peanut Butter, Raisins) and/or "Worms" (Crumbled Oreo cookies, Gummy Worms). For a craft, you could make little insect toys/dolls.

Race Car Night... Watch Herbie the Love Bug (or equivalent) and have them make their own race cars out of cardboard boxes so that they can race - non-competitively- around the yard. You could make car-shaped cookies.

If they have a favorite TV show, you could do a night based on that. For example...Wiggles Night. Have a Wiggles marathon and make crafts and recipes based on what they watch (fruit salad jumps to mind).

I hope that helped inspire you!

EDIT: Okay, I've thought of a couple more.

Camping Night...Set up a tent and sleeping bags in the living room. Eat hot dogs, s'mores, and tell "scary" stories around the campfire, I mean, flashlight. Perhaps when their parents get back they can join them down there.

Healthy Night...A night where you teach them about the Food Pyramid, and they learn what various parts of the body do (heart, lungs, etc.). I'm sure there are movies out there about it. They could have an impromptu "teddy bear clinic." Have them help you put together a balanced meal.

What would be the perfect sleepover for my 11 year old sister?

Its indoors and we are gonna put a giant tent in the living room and do other stuff. and shes turning 11.

I have stayed at many KOAs in Florida and a few in Georgia and Tennessee. The ones not in Florida were excellent, for value, service, and attitude. Most of the ones in Florida so far seem to bite big time. I had one in Lake City that was "on a lake" (the lake was mostly dried up and had 8 foot weeds growing everywhere, couldn't see the water), one in St Augustine acted like a Russian boot camp and would only rent the paddle boats between 1 PM and 5 PM, if they felt like unlocking them: On our trip, they said they weren't for rent because they had a tour bus comming in. What? One in Orlando (Lake Wippoorwill) advertized one-room cabins, but they aren't cabins, "they are hard-shell tents", and one KOA in Mims, FL says wood fires are not allowed, not even in the BBQ pits because it is against State Law, when the real reason is so they can charge a $100 deposit plus a daily rental fee for a "portable fireplace". Other KOAs deliver firewood. Has anyone else experienced KOA problems?

Answer
I'm not sure where Lake Wippoorwill KOA is and I 'm from Orlando. If that's the one on US 192 next to Sams Club, I toured it for a review and found it unacceptible, mainly for lack of shade. We stayed in one of those wooden tents in Seffner, FL. My wife couldn't hold it through the night and had to use the trash can for a potty.

The problems you mention is one of the reasons I try to stay anywhere else than KOA. We traveled to Alaska and back, from Brooksville, Florida, last year and stayed in a few KOA's, most we will never stay in again. Ocala KOA was $50+ several years ago, for what? being with-in 90 miles of disney?

We found one in Souix City, SD that wasn't open yet they let us stay the night, very nice people. Farther up the road, in Wyoming, we couldn't get decent electric and left. On our way back one in Great Falls, Montana was $30 a night higher than any other campground around. Somewhere near Bismark, ND we stayed in one that was barely large enough for our 35' motorhome, no place for our towed.

We have seen those nickle & dime you to death campgrounds and they aren't just limited to KOA. You must really watch yourself out there.

We are in the planning stages of a return trip to Alaska for next year and you can bet there won't be any KOA's in our trip. We plan on a campground every five days on the way up. WalMart and Flying "J" fuel stops will be our campgrounds for this trip.

Good luck and happy camping.

How can I make camping fun?

amber

My boyfriend has never been camping, but I have and I love it. This summer I'm taking him up to one of the nicest camping spots around where we live. We're car camping so we can take whatever we want since we have a large truck. The campground is at an ocean side, so no swimming (much too cold). It has bathrooms and showers so he'll be a bit more comfortable. I also have an air mattress we can bring so he doesn't have to sleep on the ground. How else can I make it more comfortable an most importantly fun for him? He's kind of an indoor person, and he's never been exposed to outdoor activities. My dad was a single parent so whenever he was actually around camping, fishing, and any other outdoor sport was petty much all we did together. Help me out please :)

Answer
If I was your boyfriend I think I'd be more than happy to spend time alone with the girl I loved in a scenic location. But if your boyfriend isn't an outdoors person he might be put-off by the lack of convenience and entertainment options.

The first thing I'd worry about is helping your boyfriend pick the clothing and gear he's going to bring so he is warm and comfortable throughout the trip. Make sure to bring extra blankets. Many people have trouble sleeping the first few times camping because they're not used to the sounds of nature, so ear plugs are a good idea.

Next I'd focus on is creating a campground environment that is comfy and safe. Have a lantern that can run overnight on low setting so he won't be concerned about getting lost if he has to go to the bathroom during the night. A table and chairs to relax outside, protected by a tarp and bug candles or a screen room so you both can relax outside and enjoy the view without risk of rain or insect bites. Remember it will be windy near the beach so make sure your tent, tarp and/or screen room are well-secured. Have your meals planned out and involve him in preparation so he gets to experience cooking outdoors. A nice campfire to snuggle in front of as you watch for shooting stars and tell each other stories. Maybe some wine or beer to help him relax, but not enough to get drunk.

Pack a picnic basket and blanket and go out on a hike, stopping along the way to point-out and explain the wildlife, nature and scenery. Just holding hands and walking the beach looking for seashells is a good time if you're with someone you enjoy. Maybe do some surf fishing or crabbing, or go out on a dolphin/whale watching boat trip, but be prepared in case he gets seasick. If there's someplace nearby where you can hire horses or mountain bikes for a short ride that's always a good time. Many beach areas also have tethered hot air balloon rides, or go to a nearby small airport and take a discovery flight in a small plane. Bring a camera and a tripod so you can take pictures of the both of you as a couple enjoying the sights.

Depending on where you are you might buy some fireworks and put on your own little show on the beach, making sure to keep it safe and clean-up afterwards. Some beaches have ATV or motorcycle rentals so you can ride on the beach. A nearby amusement pier would be fun. Or racing remote controlled cars on the beach.

But mostly I say just be yourself and do the things you like to do. He will either like it or he won't. If he doesn't then you need to decide whether a relationship can work with a person who doesn't share your interests. Sometimes they do, but mostly they don't.

What do you HONESTLY think of this story?

Past the B

1. Does it flow well?
2. It's just an excerpt and not the beginning, but do you have comments/likes/dislikes, especially about my writing style?

"Anyway, man, who you coming with to the party?"

"Don't ask stupid questions." I gathered my books and shoved them into my backpack, then started down a cobbled path that led to the parking lot. "Ariana, obviously."

"You might've broken up," he said, his voice indignant.

"I'm sure she'd have told you seeing as she's, well, your sister." I didn't bother asking who he'd invited, because it was obvious. After all, he only had one girlfriend at the moment.

As if on cue, Ariana emerged out of the school building through the large double doors opposite the parking lot, an arm hooked on Raven's. But when Raven spotted Lukas behind me, she screamed, shoved Ariana away, and bounded towards him like a puppy. She slammed into him with so much force, I was sure they were both going to fall and crack their heads on the tarred ground. But Lukas only staggered back a step and embraced her.

I, on the other hand, didn't get such a reaction from my own girlfriend. Ariana just smiled. It was a beautiful smile that parted her glistening lips to reveal straight rows of white teeth, and it brought a glimmer to her eyes, which were slightly veiled by her bangs. It had all the magic her brother's grin had. Well, almost.

I smiled back and hugged her.

"I missed you," she said.

"Not as much as I missed you." She had a way of turning me into a wet cheese ball. "You'll be at the party, right?"

"Yeah. Don't be late."

"I wouldn't dream of it," I said, leaning in to kiss her. But of course Lukas had to grab a handful of my tee shirt and pull me away the moment just before my lips met Ariana's.

"Dude, some respect. That's my sister," he said, shaking his head. "I'd rather not see what you two are capable of doing." He shivered, as if the very thought made his skin crawl.

"You've gotâ"

Lukas cut me off. "We've something we gotta do, anyway. Let's go." He turned to face Raven. "See ya later."

"But you promised you'd drive me home today," said Raven, a wistful tone in her voice as she slid her fingertips down Lukas's abs.

"Yeah, but there's something me and Derek gotta do, babe."

"Can't he do it alone?" She nodded towards me.

"Nah. He needs me."

"What exactly do you have to do?" demanded Raven.

Even I had no idea. I had a good memory and would've remembered if there was, but I said nothing. Maybe he just didn't want to be with Raven. Again.

Lukas flashed a crooked impish grin. "It's a surprise."

She frowned. "But I've been waiting for you for hours!"

"Ariana will take you home," Lukas said evenly. "I was gonna borrow her car, anyway. Mine's still being serviced."

Raven smiled at him, but that didn't warm her dark eyes. Then she glared at me like she was praying to the demons of hell to set me on fire. "Derek, when you're done stealing my boyfriend, please return him to me."

I smirked. "It's not my fault that you can't satisfy him."

Ariana giggled, but Raven narrowed her eyes to slits. Back off, the look said. However, I had no intention of conceding as it wasn't my fault that Derek almost always chose to hang out with me over her. I supposed that made her, well, jealous.

Lukas grabbed my arm at the wrist with one hand, then he caressed Raven's cheek with the other before he kissed her full on the lips. I tried to wrench my hand back and walk away, but his grip was too firm. I turned away and looked at Ariana instead.

"Does he always need to hold your hand when he's making out?" said Ariana, stifling a laugh.

"You don't know the half of it."

When he was done with her, he dragged me towards the entrance to the school building. I waved Ariana goodbye and made sure she and Raven were out of earshot before I spoke.

"Why did you make me wait if you were planning on driving home with Raven?"

Lukas didn't look at me. "I just told her I would, but I wasn't going to."

He shrugged.

"Okay." There was something he wasn't telling me, but I had no desire to drag explanations out of him. "So where exactly are we going?"

"Miss Rose's office."

The health teacher's office? "Why?"

"For the party." He turned to look at me as we walked through the doors and into the hallway. That impish grin once again split his lips. "We gotta steal us some condoms."

Answer
I like how the writing flows; it's something between Haulden Caulfield's narrative and Greg's from "Me, and Earl, and the Dying Girl". I also like how you're trying to distinguish the characters through their accents; it's a nice detail.

What I don't really like is the party theme. It makes me cringe every time; it's always the same scene: someone's house, parents are gone, underage drinking, something bad happening, cops arrive, party over, what a mess in the yard.

We didn't go to house parties like you see in movies. Our idea of "fun" (graduated h.s. in 2009 so I'm not that old) in high school and college was: we would go to the club, dance a lot and drink some (18+), or we would hang out at a friend's house for BBQ and music, or have a picnic in the forest and prepare BBQ and play voleyball/ badminton, or go to a public pool in town to swim, flirt and get a tan, or go to some lake at the edge of the town to swim/ play sports/ BBQ (again); we really like bbq. Or go to the mountains/ sea side together for a few days, sleep in tents or cheap villas; didn't matter where we slept since we didn't go there to stay within four walls of a 5-star hotel. It didn't matter if it was someone's birthday, a normal weekend, summer holiday; it was fun because the we were fun and even if some of us had just met new people under these circumstances, we'd all come out of this experience as good friends with awesome things to remember. Hopefully this rambling will give you some ideas xD

I also can't really identify with most of the teenage books and movies that have overused the stereotypical features of students, how they're split into groups like nerds, cheerleaders, popular kids blah blah. You haven't mentioned any in the excerpt, but since there's a party following up, I'm sensing there will be.

However, I don't really have a say in it, since the entire high school experience is different for everyone (or for every writer/director), so it may appeal to some crowds.

Overall, I like your delivery and descriptions. I can't really tell what the bigger picture of this novel could be, but I hope that once you've finished writing (or once you've published it), you'll tell us more about it. :)

How big of a tent should I buy? I'll need room for a full size air mattress and a Pack 'N Play at a minimum

hansh0t1st

I am currently looking at a 6 person octagonal dome tent that measures 90 square feet floor area.So it's approximately 12x10.
I have a 20 month old kid whom we would rather sleep in the Pack 'N Play rather than on the floor. Any one have some experience/suggestions on this?
Thanks.
Robin,
Helpful tips, but I am talking space for a pack 'n play was well, which uses up more space than a person. So I need to be able to judge how much that would use up in a tent... without having the tent.
Yah 90 square feet would be 10x9... well the tent I was looking at claimed 12x10'6" but also said it was 90 square feet... How I dunno.
I'd be camping with my wife and the kid. So it's be the three of us with the pack 'n play and the mattress
I'm still going with the idea that it's 90 square feet at this point so let's agree on 10x9
Here's a link to the "odd" math tent with 90.3 square feet and being 12x10
http://www.eurekatent.com/twister.asp
Hrm maybe because it's a hexagon it takes up a square area of 12x10 but because it's a hexagon and not a perfect square you loose footage.

Answer
Besides yourself and the baby in the Pack N Play, how many other people need to fit in this tent?? If it is just the two of you, a 6 person tent would be large enough. If there is another adult going along, get a 7 or 8 person tent.

I have a math question now! How does 90 sq feet equal an area of 12'x10'? It either equals 9'x10' or else you have 120 square feet of space.

Okay, so being an octagon shaped tent, it probably is only 90.3 square feet of space. (My geomentry skills elude me at the moment)

But, with 2 adults and a child, I stick with my suggestion of a 7 or 8 person tent so that you will have the room needed to stretch out.

Thumbs up on considering a tent from Eureka. Great quality for the price.

did you try a tent rental place that rents wedding tents and party tents? they usually rent big tents that have sides on them and some rental company's rent cots to. that's the only thing I can think of being that big there are some camping stores that rent camping gear but I don't think they rent tents bigger that 8 person.

Where is it legal to camp long-term?

JustMe

My boyfriend and I are selling most of our possessions and going long term camping. I know there are some regulations on what land you can do this on. Is it true that National Forests allow it (we were thinking Toiyabe National Forest in Cali)? Is there anywhere else where you can legally set up a large tent and live long-term?

Answer
Any U.S forest service land or BLM(bureau of land management) land. There are rules, like you would have to move your camp every few days, but it's free. There are other regulations, like how far you have to be from any public or forest service road. You can check with the BLM or forest service for the details. Many people camp for longer periods of time in western states. Winter can be really harsh in northern cliimates or higher altitudes, so many people who camp on Government land in the summer, just camp for the winter in monthly rentals in campgrounds. It's about the cheapest way to live, but takes some getting used to. You could always get an old used camper and keep trading up until you have something you like. You are not allowed to camp other than sanctioned campgrounds within National parks which are closed in the winter months. I wouldn't recommend the back of a pickup truck or a van unless they have water and sewer systems on board. Doing your buiseness in a bucket every day gets old fast. I don't believe that there is really anywhere you could set up long term even building semi-permanent structures and without moving once in a while without being harrassed by Wardens. The closer you get to a city, the worse it will be. The first time you try to build an outhouse, they will be around kicking you out soon after. Anyone who has ever lived in a "tent city" will tell you this. If either one of you plans on working somewhere while you camp, then a small pickup pulled camper works great for this. You can leave your trailer where you are camped and drive to town. Many people do it to save up money. Many even use their campers when they buy their own land while they are building their own house and for entertainment once the house is built.
