I wanted to camp in a tent in a large forest, is that illegal? This is UK by the way

Yes the British forest are ether privately owned or Owned by the forestry commission!
Ether will be extremely down on people camping in them!
There are how ever proper camp sites run by the Forestry commision for the public !
There are how ever not in the forest as you want1
But proper open pitches!
And remember that wild Camping is illegal in England and Wales!

Well, that's an unusual site for Y!A but what you're looking for is a teepee, sometimes spelled tipi, or a ridge tent.

Argos do a teepee cheaper than most ridge tents that size but it's still quite a bit to fork out and it'll likely need a bit a bit of work on it before trusting it in wet weather.
It's much better if it's put up in Arabia with nice silk curtains and gold ornaments around and white fluffy carpets on the floor and some warm nights that are more comfortable for suitable night time activities like star gazing.
The sight of the heavenly bodies at night can be truly awesome and for many of them no telescope is required.

In the photo with the girl reading the tent she's in is a large ridge tent which you can get from many manufacturers all over the world.
In UK Blacks do a big one and the early Vango Force Ten tents were that shape too but now they are geodesic domes and tunnels.
Here is the classic Force Ten, as used by hundreds of Everest climbers.

A look in any camping shop or the on line sites will give a good choice of large ridge tents cheaper than the Vango and capable of providing a comfortable living area for three or four people.
These are up-market..as pricey as the Vango Force Ten.

Coleman tents are excellent value. I have three of them and they have all been brilliant.
You can find them in all outdoor or camping shops or buy online.
They do big family tents and backpacker tents and guarantee the waterproofing. I've never had a single problem with them in years of camping in very wet British weather and on the Alps and Andes and all over Europe.
Coleman is an American company with a world-wide presence, and has a large range of outdoor equipment in it's product list. For value for money Coleman is hard to beat.

I noticed there is a tear in my canvas camping tent. Can it be fixed? How to do that?

1. Sew the sides of the damaged area together. This is similar to sewing clothing, except that thick canvas may require a large needle or awl and heavy duty or waxed string. These materials are available at outdoor specialty stores.

2. Spread seam sealer or beeswax to the sewn seam. This product is available at outdoor and camping specialty stores, and can vary depending on the make of your tent (canvas or nylon). Follow all product instructions and warnings for proper application details, including drying time.

3. Line up one of the patches so that it is centered with the inside area of the tear. The patch should be larger than the damaged area on all sides by at least 2 inches. Secure the patch with glue, which can also vary depending on the make of your tent. Follow product instructions for drying time; be sure the adhesive is completely dry before continuing.

4. Sew the patch into place to fully secure it. Using adhesive and stitches will help prevent the tear from spreading or from opening again.

5. Spread seam sealer or wax over the sewn seams and the edges of the patch for optimal protection.

6. Line up, glue and sew the other patch to the outside of the tear. Be sure that it lines up with the inner patch, as the two should be the same size. Apply sealer or wax to the seams and the edges of the patch.

in Washington state; where can I get cheap camping gear?

Q. I am on a small budget.

There are hundreds of camping and outdoor sports shops in Wahington State where you can get all you need at bargain prices.
In Seattle alone there more than two dozen of them, plus the camping sections of department stores, and many of the supermarkets have camping stuff.
A tent and sleeping bag can be got for $80 or less and a butane cartridge stove for $15, with cartridges costing a couple of dollars each.
Or, make a desert burner by punching some holes round the top of a tin can, fill the can with dry sand or soil, and pour methylated spirit into it...not gasoline.
Put the flame out when you're done by just putting a lid over it to keep the air out or drop a larger can over the top, which is also a good storage can for your burner.
Or you could just take a couple of disposable barbecues or a tray and a small bag of coals which can be used for boiling water, cooking in a saucepan or for frying stuff in a fry pan, not only as a barbecue...it's a portable fire.
Make a stand for the pot by knocking three strong tent pegs into ground and slide the barbecue tray under the pot. Smal round trays are easy to find, like an old flan baking tray or similar, or a small biscuit tin.
You can also use a biscuit tin for an oven. See on the cooking link.
An sheet of ordinary thin polythene can be put over tentsto improve the waterproofing and warmth so long as you don't buy a dome tent. Tunnel tents and ridge tents are easy to cover and a set of plastic eyelets obtainable from any camping shop for $3 will convert a sheet of polythene into a flysheet you can put guylines on as an extra flysheet or simply as a cover to sleep under by itself.
For some of my trips don't bother with a tent. I just take a long length of plastic coated washing line and hang a sheet of proofed nylon over it, which I put four eyelets in along each side so the wind pressure is taken evenly all the way along and less pressure is taken by each eyelet than if only corner eyelets were used.
The line gets tied between two trees or onto a piece of rock or however I can fix it where I am. Sometimes I cut a couple of poles to use like tent poles for it.
You don'tneed a load of expensive stuff for camping but with cheap or improvised gear obviously you need to take care and and not try the impossible with it.
You can still get months of camping done in a year though if you have the opportunity.

Is there anything I can do to prevent my tent going mildew?

Every time time when I set up my camping tent it smells mildew. Is there anything I can do to prevent it to get such smell?

Answer
You can do the following things to prevent your tent going mildew:

1. Find a very sunny patch at your campsite with lots of dry trees or places to hang your bedding. If you have clothesline, rope or kite string, string up a clothesline between two trees in a sunny area.

2. Remove every last thing from your tent so that it's bare. Leave the tent completely unzipped.

3. Hang up the bedding, sleeping mats, pillows, even bags to dry on tree brances, large rocks or your makeshift clothesline.

4. Wait until the top of the tent is dry before unpegging it and flipping it over so the bottom gets dry. When the bottom is dry to the touch, flip it back over, peg it down and brush out any dirt or crumbs with a dustpan and brush. Add the bedding, bags and any other paraphenalia you keep in your tent when they dry.

5. Dry out your tent before you put it away for any storage by airing it out completely outsidse in your yard, if possible. The sun and fresh air produce a better smelling tent than when you dry it indoors. Only dry the tent indoors if you have no other alternative.

Does anyone have a Eurohike backpacker tent or know where I can get replacement parts?

I'm missing the shorter pole from a Eurohike Backpacker tent, although I can't remember how long the original was if I knew that I could probably get a replacement.
The longer one seems to be made up of 6 sections.
Hope someone can help.
