Can i catch sickness from being in the same building as someone who was?

kids tents indoor play image

I work in a kids indoor play area and today throughout the day two kids were sick.I didn't go near the sick or the children as i tent to stay in the kitchen area, but do i have a chance of catching the bug from being in the same building as the sick? I've been washing my hand and using hand gel after i touch the surfaces and cleaning. I ask because I have a really bad phobia

Answer
As long as you're not in the same room with them, keeping your hands clean the chances are really small to get the bug, but a little chance always exists, but I doubt it that you caught it..

What are the best Indoor playplaces in NW Oregon?

amanda_hus

I'm looking for an indoor playplace for my daughter's birthday party in January. It should be suitable for children from 2 to 8 or so. The cheaper the better...I don't want to have to pay hundreds of dollars for a party package. Would rather bring our own cake and that's it.

Answer
Not knowing exactly where you ar, this can be a tough one to answer. But here are some fairly universal examples of options:

1) Check with the local gymnastics group in your area. They frequently have group parties where you bring the cake, they do a mini gym class for the kids. They run $50-75 for our area (south coast of Oregon).

2) Talk to a local theater about a party package. Have guest pay for the movie (G rated of course) and you provide the cake or popcorn. Our theater gives background tours and the 6-9 year olds really enjoyed it.

3) Check with a bowling alley about a party room and game of bowling. Even 2-3 year olds can play with the really light balls.

4) Check with a local swimming pool. They often have parties.

5) On the south coast we have a business called "Outdoor In" which has lots of younger kid toys, rides and an indoor inflatable jump tent. They have video games for older kids. Check at Oak Park (Portland) - I think they have something similar - if not, see about a ride on the carousel and a party.

6) See if one of your friends has a community building at their apartment house. You might use it to host the party.

Good luck!

I'm considering buying a Northwest Territory 18 x 17 ft. Eagle River Dome Tent w/Screen Porch from Kmart for 94.00 ($56 off). (link http://www.kmart.com/shc/s/p_10151_10104_9990000023613611P?vName=Fitness+%26+Sports)

However I have not been able to find any reviews on it. I'm looking for someone who owns this tent, has used this tent, or owns a similar Northwest Territory tent. Please let me know what you think of it.

Also if you own any tent close to this size 18X17X6.5 do you have trouble finding campsites where you can set up a tent this big?

Answer
I think you get what you pay for, and this brand, from this store that isn't very much. It might last a couple of seasons, but I wouldn't put it through a rain storm or any significant wind.

Also the size seems way overkill. If I was car camping with a large family I'd prefer if we kept it two, or maybe three, people to a nice sturdy dome tent. Then you could put up a screen tent for sitting around together. Those smaller tents could also be used for other things, like kids camp outs, backpacking trips, while this giant tent is only good for one thing.

What is the best quality tent I can buy for under $200?

Cat M

Requirements:

Must fit a king size air mattress (so it should be at least about 10 x10 so there's room around the mattress for bags and stuff)
Must have at least 3 large windows (but preferably 4 - one on each side including the front door)
Must NOT leak!
Preferably have a raised (tub) floor or whatever you call it - so that the floor seams are not right on the ground.

Please help me find a good tent for under $200. I have been searching like crazy but whenever I find something I like it either has bad reviews or is way too expensive.

Thanks

Answer
Well the expensive ones are most likely the ones that wont leak. Remember, you get what you pay for. Check out these tents, they seem pretty good. be sure to check out all the links below, some of the tents are a steal at the size.

What are some must-have snacks while camping?

My family and I are going camping. There will be my husband and I along with three children. We will be tent camping and need some ideas for some easy, yet satisfying snacks. Snacks can be kept in our cooler or dry. We prefer snacks that take little to no preparation. Thanks!!

Answer
That's great you are going camping, we camp every weekend. I usually take things like those p'nut butter sandwhich crackers, smores are great but remember the chocolate melts and so do the marshmallows into one icky mess. Trail mix is good, the kind you make yourself with m&m's, marshmallows, raisins, etc. (keep in cool place). Go-gurt, poptarts, apples, oranges, watermelon and cantelope already cubed. Cheez-it's too.
Do forget to pick up some glow sticks (necklaces) for the kids at night, they love them.

Does anyone have any suggestions to upgrade this fort?

Someone

Earlier, I built a fort for my child out of blankets. The style is like an original camping tent, with the support down the middle and the blanket hanging off to the sides. My child wants to add some "upgrades," but I can't think of any easy to ideas with basic home supplies. Any ideas?? Thank you!

Answer
Make sure to have the clean space of supplies and upgrade 'em...

Good luck!

Past the B

1. Does it flow well?
2. It's just an excerpt and not the beginning, but do you have comments/likes/dislikes, especially about my writing style?

"Anyway, man, who you coming with to the party?"

"Don't ask stupid questions." I gathered my books and shoved them into my backpack, then started down a cobbled path that led to the parking lot. "Ariana, obviously."

"You might've broken up," he said, his voice indignant.

"I'm sure she'd have told you seeing as she's, well, your sister." I didn't bother asking who he'd invited, because it was obvious. After all, he only had one girlfriend at the moment.

As if on cue, Ariana emerged out of the school building through the large double doors opposite the parking lot, an arm hooked on Raven's. But when Raven spotted Lukas behind me, she screamed, shoved Ariana away, and bounded towards him like a puppy. She slammed into him with so much force, I was sure they were both going to fall and crack their heads on the tarred ground. But Lukas only staggered back a step and embraced her.

I, on the other hand, didn't get such a reaction from my own girlfriend. Ariana just smiled. It was a beautiful smile that parted her glistening lips to reveal straight rows of white teeth, and it brought a glimmer to her eyes, which were slightly veiled by her bangs. It had all the magic her brother's grin had. Well, almost.

I smiled back and hugged her.

"I missed you," she said.

"Not as much as I missed you." She had a way of turning me into a wet cheese ball. "You'll be at the party, right?"

"Yeah. Don't be late."

"I wouldn't dream of it," I said, leaning in to kiss her. But of course Lukas had to grab a handful of my tee shirt and pull me away the moment just before my lips met Ariana's.

"Dude, some respect. That's my sister," he said, shaking his head. "I'd rather not see what you two are capable of doing." He shivered, as if the very thought made his skin crawl.

"You've gotâ"

Lukas cut me off. "We've something we gotta do, anyway. Let's go." He turned to face Raven. "See ya later."

"But you promised you'd drive me home today," said Raven, a wistful tone in her voice as she slid her fingertips down Lukas's abs.

"Yeah, but there's something me and Derek gotta do, babe."

"Can't he do it alone?" She nodded towards me.

"Nah. He needs me."

"What exactly do you have to do?" demanded Raven.

Even I had no idea. I had a good memory and would've remembered if there was, but I said nothing. Maybe he just didn't want to be with Raven. Again.

Lukas flashed a crooked impish grin. "It's a surprise."

She frowned. "But I've been waiting for you for hours!"

"Ariana will take you home," Lukas said evenly. "I was gonna borrow her car, anyway. Mine's still being serviced."

Raven smiled at him, but that didn't warm her dark eyes. Then she glared at me like she was praying to the demons of hell to set me on fire. "Derek, when you're done stealing my boyfriend, please return him to me."

I smirked. "It's not my fault that you can't satisfy him."

Ariana giggled, but Raven narrowed her eyes to slits. Back off, the look said. However, I had no intention of conceding as it wasn't my fault that Derek almost always chose to hang out with me over her. I supposed that made her, well, jealous.

Lukas grabbed my arm at the wrist with one hand, then he caressed Raven's cheek with the other before he kissed her full on the lips. I tried to wrench my hand back and walk away, but his grip was too firm. I turned away and looked at Ariana instead.

"Does he always need to hold your hand when he's making out?" said Ariana, stifling a laugh.

"You don't know the half of it."

When he was done with her, he dragged me towards the entrance to the school building. I waved Ariana goodbye and made sure she and Raven were out of earshot before I spoke.

"Why did you make me wait if you were planning on driving home with Raven?"

Lukas didn't look at me. "I just told her I would, but I wasn't going to."

He shrugged.

"Okay." There was something he wasn't telling me, but I had no desire to drag explanations out of him. "So where exactly are we going?"

"Miss Rose's office."

The health teacher's office? "Why?"

"For the party." He turned to look at me as we walked through the doors and into the hallway. That impish grin once again split his lips. "We gotta steal us some condoms."

Answer
I like how the writing flows; it's something between Haulden Caulfield's narrative and Greg's from "Me, and Earl, and the Dying Girl". I also like how you're trying to distinguish the characters through their accents; it's a nice detail.

What I don't really like is the party theme. It makes me cringe every time; it's always the same scene: someone's house, parents are gone, underage drinking, something bad happening, cops arrive, party over, what a mess in the yard.

We didn't go to house parties like you see in movies. Our idea of "fun" (graduated h.s. in 2009 so I'm not that old) in high school and college was: we would go to the club, dance a lot and drink some (18+), or we would hang out at a friend's house for BBQ and music, or have a picnic in the forest and prepare BBQ and play voleyball/ badminton, or go to a public pool in town to swim, flirt and get a tan, or go to some lake at the edge of the town to swim/ play sports/ BBQ (again); we really like bbq. Or go to the mountains/ sea side together for a few days, sleep in tents or cheap villas; didn't matter where we slept since we didn't go there to stay within four walls of a 5-star hotel. It didn't matter if it was someone's birthday, a normal weekend, summer holiday; it was fun because the we were fun and even if some of us had just met new people under these circumstances, we'd all come out of this experience as good friends with awesome things to remember. Hopefully this rambling will give you some ideas xD

I also can't really identify with most of the teenage books and movies that have overused the stereotypical features of students, how they're split into groups like nerds, cheerleaders, popular kids blah blah. You haven't mentioned any in the excerpt, but since there's a party following up, I'm sensing there will be.

However, I don't really have a say in it, since the entire high school experience is different for everyone (or for every writer/director), so it may appeal to some crowds.

Overall, I like your delivery and descriptions. I can't really tell what the bigger picture of this novel could be, but I hope that once you've finished writing (or once you've published it), you'll tell us more about it. :)

How big of a tent should I buy? I'll need room for a full size air mattress and a Pack 'N Play at a minimum

hansh0t1st

I am currently looking at a 6 person octagonal dome tent that measures 90 square feet floor area.So it's approximately 12x10.
I have a 20 month old kid whom we would rather sleep in the Pack 'N Play rather than on the floor. Any one have some experience/suggestions on this?
Thanks.
Robin,
Helpful tips, but I am talking space for a pack 'n play was well, which uses up more space than a person. So I need to be able to judge how much that would use up in a tent... without having the tent.
Yah 90 square feet would be 10x9... well the tent I was looking at claimed 12x10'6" but also said it was 90 square feet... How I dunno.
I'd be camping with my wife and the kid. So it's be the three of us with the pack 'n play and the mattress
I'm still going with the idea that it's 90 square feet at this point so let's agree on 10x9
Here's a link to the "odd" math tent with 90.3 square feet and being 12x10
http://www.eurekatent.com/twister.asp
Hrm maybe because it's a hexagon it takes up a square area of 12x10 but because it's a hexagon and not a perfect square you loose footage.

Answer
Besides yourself and the baby in the Pack N Play, how many other people need to fit in this tent?? If it is just the two of you, a 6 person tent would be large enough. If there is another adult going along, get a 7 or 8 person tent.

I have a math question now! How does 90 sq feet equal an area of 12'x10'? It either equals 9'x10' or else you have 120 square feet of space.

Okay, so being an octagon shaped tent, it probably is only 90.3 square feet of space. (My geomentry skills elude me at the moment)

But, with 2 adults and a child, I stick with my suggestion of a 7 or 8 person tent so that you will have the room needed to stretch out.

Thumbs up on considering a tent from Eureka. Great quality for the price.

Pashu~Chan

Air Mattress, tent, cooler, folding chairs ect. I need it to be a very durable brand. My boyfriend and I are fairly overweight. I'd say the weight capacity between the two of us should be 500-600+ (he is either just below 300 or just above, im just below 250) if it matters.(don't hate fat kids need love too) And where would you suggest I buy them. I honestly don't want to order offline unless its absolutely needed. Price isn't an issue if its absolutely worth it.

Answer
You can easily spend ten times as much money on backpacking gear from high-quality brands as you need to spend for car camping equipment. Top brands include MSR, Big Agnes, The North Face, Marmot, Patagonia, Mountain Hardwear. However, you may be able to survive in gear that you purchase from a department store. You can purchase a double-thick air mattress from a department store that is about a fourth as much in cost as a Big Agnes Dual Core sleeping pad that is only 2.5 inches thick. Buy the gear to meet your needs, not the brand that seems the "best" to you.

What can I do to have a better vacation?

I will be 30 weeks pregnant when we leave for South Dakota. We will be camping for 8 days and I am hoping to have a good time. We bought an elevated air mattress to help, but what other suggestions does anyone have? I know it will be hot so I am going to drink a lot of water and try to take it easy. I don't want to be tired and crabby the whole time.

Answer
Unless your camping site is just an hour or so away, make sure to take a break at least every 2 hours to get up a walk around on your trip there. This will help keep the swelling in your legs and feet from making you miserable. Of course water is a must, so kudos for being prepared for that one!

Make sure that you bring something comfortable to sit in, something with support, not one of those chintzy folding camping chairs. Do your research and go sit in a few now and see how easy they are to get in and out of, and how they feel once you actually sit down.

Don't leave out your pillows! Of course with camping you kind of don't want to use your sleeping pillow while lounging in front of the campfire, so bring along a couple from the couch, or better yet, grab a couple from a local $ store. They are nice to have if you need any extra support in bed or just for sitting, and you don't worry to much about them getting dirty since they aren't that important once you get home.

Also, keep in mind that your need to pee will only get worse the more pregnant you get. I don't know about you, but the places I camped never had the best potty arrangement. Considering that I usually got up at least 3 times a night to visit my throne, you might want to make arrangements for some kind of porta potty for inside your tent. At the least you could always get a kids potty training potty and use that. Small yes, worse than camping bathrooms, not by a long shot. If you are worried about the smell you can always put some kitty litter in it to absorb the urine, and then sprinkle some baking soda on top of that.

Last but not least, BRING SOME COMFORTBLE FOOTWARE! I know that we are all tempted to wear sandals and flipflops in the summer, but its a very good idea to bring something that will give you some support if you are planning on doing any kind of walking on this camping trip. Your center of balance will be off, so the chance of you losing your balance will only be increased on uneven camping ground!

That's about all I can think of. I hope you have a wonderful trip and congrats on the pregnancy!!

How to disassemble trampoline?

We are moving to a new house and do not want to hire a company to take apart our trampoline. How can I take apart a rectangular trampoline with a net? It is an alley oop sports trampoline. It is fairly large for practicing flips. I do not have the instructions. All answers are greatly appreciated!

Answer
I found a lot of help online for your problem. You can download assembly directions for free! You just have to know WHICH trampoline model you own. Since you did not give that info I couldn't get specifics for you. Below are the results of my search. The downloads are free. Once you get the assembly directions just start at the end and work backwards. That way you'll have the disassembly instructions AND the assembly instructions which you'll need once you move. You may have to go directly to the site to connect to the downloads .... Here is that site: www.jumpsport.com/assembly.htm ..... copy and paste ....OR search for Alley Oop Trampoline assembly instructions....click on Jump Sport

Solutions to Common Issues:
How do I install my Safety Enclosure Net on a trampoline smaller than 14 feet in diameter (for models 280, 380, and 480), and smaller than 16 feet in diameter (for model 480XT)?

My trampoline has 6 sets of legs (12 vertical legs) but I only received 8 poles. How do I attach the 8 poles?

What is the movie brokeback mountain about?

Jungle Jon

i know gay cowboys of some kind, but wats the plot?

Answer
There not gay for starters, more Bi-Sexual seeing as they both marry and have kids with the female characters played by Anne Hathaway and Michelle Williams (Who Heath Ledger had a child with in real life after the film). Jack and Ennis enter a cabin looking for work and get it looking after sheep up on Brokeback Mountain. At first they refuse to sleep in the same tent, but eventually Ennis lies next to Jack who then puts his arm over his body. Ennis is shocked but they end up making love. Years later they disguise their gay romance/affair with a fishing trip on Brokeback. Until Ennis' wife discovers the truth when she sees them both kissing outside her house. They divorce soon after that scene. The guy who hired them also knows as he had been spying on them and confronts them later in the film. One of their final scenes Jack admits he loves Ennis and wants to move to Mexico where they can be together. Ennis tells Jack he hates the way he is and its because of him. He cries into Jacks arms. Jack is then murdered for being gay while Ennis is still alive at the end, he has Jacks shirt hanging up in his bedroom which he smells and I think that's pretty much the end of the film?

Every couple of weeks, my daughters and I will set up a tent in our living room and have a "camp-out." I'll make smores and hotdogs to eat and tell them stories. We also have sleepovers. For our sleepovers, we pull some sleeping bags into the living room, order pizza, bake cookies and watch a movie together. My kids are only 1 1/2 and 2 1/2. Their dad thinks it weird because we do this at home. I think it's fun for them. I remember my mom doing things like this when I was younger. How many of you do silly things like this for your kids?

Answer
I do fun things all the time. When one of us can't sleep and we don't have work or school the next day, we wake the other up and ask if they want a midnight party. We tell gohst stories on a normal night at home as if we are cmaping. We sleep on the hyda bed when we have movie nights. and we play silly games... tonight we played .... 'you smell like'... We took a big sniff of the other person and said what they smell like... it is silly. but when your kid laughs becuase you met them on their level that is cool. You husband may think it's silly, just tell him that kids like silly and he shouldn't crtisize you and he should try getting down to their level. You are making memories

What all do I need for a camping trip?

nerdie

This weekend I'm going camping with some friends. We all are in our early mid 20's and we haven't really gone camping on our own. What all do i need to bring. I already have a tent, sleeping bag, cooler, first aid kit. hot dogs, bbq, beer. and all that good stuff. But besides the main stuff what should I bring, and like what to do when were are not hiking or on the lake.

Answer
Plastic Dish Pan This keeps stuff from rolling all over in the trunk and comes in handy for dish washing and bathing.
Paper Plates Twice as many as you think you need. Bring plenty, they burn very well for fire starting purposes.
Can Opener
Cup-O-Noodles
Granola Bars
Silverware 2x everyone in your party. Bring some regular silverware and some plastic stuff.
Napkins or Paper Towels
Toothpicks
Coffee (Sugar / Cream) The makings for a good cup of coffee. Also, single serving coffee bags or tea bags
Beef Stew
Corned Beef Hash Great with eggs!
Canned Pie Filling Excellent!
Ravioli Even good cold and kids love it!
Macaroni and Cheese Very soupy but tasty.
Baked Beans
Soups Pick the stuff your family likes best.
Canned Vegetables Green beans, peas, mushrooms, corn, carrots, etc.
Canned Fruits Pineapple, applesauce, peaches, pears, apricots, etc.
Bread Bring a good loaf of bread.
Cheese Cheddar or mozzarella
Sandwich Meat
Butter
Condiments Almost all condiments will keep well - Just make them easy to get to.
Adult Beverages
Kids Drinks
Hot Dogs Excellent food.
Box of Cereal Cherrios, Chex's, any cereal that requires no sugar. Eat this out of a cup. It's a quick and easy breakfast.
S'more Fixings Marshmallows, Hershey chocolate bars, and graham crackers!
Zip-Lock Storage Bags Really handy if you hate seeing your butter floating around in the bottom of the cooler.
Aluminum Foil
Spatula
Cooking Utensils A serving spoon, a pitch fork, a pair of tongs, and a good knife.
Hot Pads
Clothes Pin
Frying Pan I use an old cast iron pan.

Bring a Book If you read, bring something. You never know where you'll be waiting.

Your AAA Card If you don't have one, I recommend you get one. Free tows in the U.S.A. are only the beginning. Your policy may say they only tow 7 miles - but that's not the full truth. AAA will tow you seven miles in town.
Your Checkbook Most self-service campgrounds accept checks.
Your Credit Cards and ATM Cards Yes, I have left my VISA at home accidentally- the only time I have needed it.
Money Don't bring hundreds please!
Water I use a large container for the bulk of the water and keep a soda bottle with water in reach for drinking in the car or on hikes.
Maps
Toys Let your kids pick out what they want.
Snacks Good distractions for the little ones.
Towels I use them as seat covers to protect from accidents for easy packing.

Clothing

Good Hat
Rain Poncho
Bug Head Net
Multi-Pocket Vest A great piece of apparel. Keeps all your little items handy.
Sport Sandals
Long Underwear
Filp-Flops Great for showering in as well as lake swimming

New tent? Practice setting it up in the backyard before going on a trip.
Invest in good sleeping equipment. Choose air mattresses, cots, or sleeping bags that will give you adequate rest so you can get the most out of your daytime activities.
Stay dry:
Use a ground cloth under your tent as protection from rips and moisture.
Use the rain fly, even if the sky looks clear.
To prevent rain from leaking into your tent, apply a seam sealant to the inside and outside of all exposed tent seams.
Keep your tent clean:
A whisk broom is handy for sweeping out dirt and leaves.
Place an indoor/outdoor rug in front of your tent entrance for dirty shoes.
Bring duct tape for quick repairs of small tears, splintered tent poles and the like.

Kamping Kabins, Kottages and Lodges
Our Kamping Kabins, Kottages and Lodges provide space, comfort and privacy for family fun. Even on cool, wet days, you can stretch out and relax with games, crafts or a good book, and enjoy the sound of rain pattering on the roof as you stay warm and dry. In addition to our basic camping checklist, here are some tips for campers staying in KOA Kabins, Kottages or Lodges:

We provide beds, but you'll still need to bring bedding (sleeping bags or linens, and pillows).
Don't forget bath towels and personal items.
Cookware and utensils are provided at some locations, so be sure to check with the campground before you pack. Otherwise, plan on bringing your own.
For fun on rainy days and lamp-lit evenings, consider packing puzzles, cards and board games inside zippered bags for spill-proof transporting.

Searching on the internet for a new tent for outdoor camping, I came across the term "all in one pitching system". After searching google I have found no explanations to the term.

Can someone help?

Answer
http://www.penroseoutdoors.co.uk/acatalog/Gelert_Quick_Pitch_Evolution_2.html

I'm assuming this is what you are referring to is a tent like this.

In this tent's case the 'system' is all in one!
Hope this helps!

Just kidding!

The tent, poles and fly are all one piece and stuck together. It comes out of the bag and pretty much just pops up into place. You just peg it down and it's ready to go!

It'll only take a few seconds to set up. Just like this!!

Can I put a tent in the washer and dryer on the lowest settings?

Joe and Ki

Me my husband with the kids went camping a few weeks back but to our surprise we got rain when we got home we waited for a nice day and set the tent up outside in the back yard well of course it rained again and we got some winds that knocked over the tent weve been reseeting it up everyday but now cause of the winds we got got 1 split pole and 1 pole slightly bent I dont want to put the tent away wet so I was just wondering if I used the lowest setting can I put it through the washer and dryer

Answer
I put my nylon tent through the washer and the dryer. A few words of caution. One make certain that you use the setting for the largest load and the most delicate wash cycle. I put mine on the soak cycle for a few hours with Borax and detergent first. Borax eliminates odors and mine really stunk. Then, watch it carefully during the spin cycle. Mine had mosquito netting that I did not secure to the tent with a zipper and it tore during the spin cycle. Also, I added a waterproofer (available at the camping stores, some discounters and outfitters) to the rinse cycle to keep the tent from soaking through when used during a rain.

Finally, I put a few tennis balls in the dryer with the tent, no fabric softener and let her rip on the delicate/air dry cyle. I checked it often because it bunched up and had to be adjusted in both the washer and dryer.

How can I design a camping themed room for my 10 year old?

kids tents with lights on MyKiz - Building Friendship for Kids:::
kids tents with lights image
Q. My son loves the outdoors. He wants his room to be a camping theme. In other words, he wants a tent to sleep in, things with boats, fishing, etc. I would love for him to have a tent to sleep in, but I also want to put his mattress in the tent so he won't have to sleep on the floor!! Is this doable? How big of a tent would I have to get? Can you even put a tent up in your house without having to stake it down?
Any ideas would be great!
Thanks!

Answer
there are many toy tents available these days for kids in the market made of parachute material that are long lasting and i guess they are big enough to accomodate a mattress, if not, even if the mattress peaks out a little, it is no problem, you can rope in the tent higher and it will give a spread over effect, these tents are meant for small children only and can be placed in the rooms!

along with it, you can go to a supermarket and check out the fishing section, there you will find wooden boats decorated in corners, you can buy one of these and place it in one corner of the room, it will give the out door effect, you can also get a artifical tree to place in one corner of the room, it will all enhance the outdoor effect, apart from that, try to paint the room in light green and light brown combination or even sky blue color to foster the image of being outdoors

What are some activities you do when babysitting?

Zoey

I babysit alot the activities can be for any age of children. I'm just looking for a really long list of activities that are kind of time consuming and a lot of fun, for both me and the kids thanks!

Answer
-Make play dough! http://www.busybeekidscrafts.com/Salt-Dough-Recipe.html
You can even take a small food storage container (of yours) to have the kids decorate with stickers, etc. that will hold their play dough it.

-Decorate a pillow case/T-shirt/etc..
Bring your accessory that you are going to color on. Take some permanent markers for them to use, but make sure they don't write on anything else- include themselves.

-Go outside!
Play with chalk.
Blow bubbles. (you can even make them)
Take a walk/bike ride
Visit a park
Have a picnic
Bring some water guns
Do a scavenger hunt: Have them find a pink flower, a blue car, etc.

-Have a dance party!
Put some songs like: The Macerana, the twist, chicken dance, hokey pokey, electric slide, etc. on a CD or a playlist on your ipod. Turn off the lights, expect for some dimmed ones or a lamp. Try to get a diso ball. (glow sticks if the kids are above the age of 7) Freeze dance for the little ones!

-Play games!
Hide and seek
Twister
Go fish
Slap Jack
Candy Land
Bowling (use soup cans as pins, and a ball)

-For girls: Do a pedicure!
Take a large bowl, if you have one and put a towel under it. Fill it up with warm water and bubbles/soap. Let her sit on the coach with her feet in the bowl. Massage her feet, then paint her toes.

-Frost cookies!
Make the cookies at your house and take them with to avoid using their stove! Bring along some frosting and sprinkles. Have them decorate their own. Rice krispies also work but are quite messy!

-ColoIring
You can take big poster boards and stamps, stickers, markers... Or you can print off coloring sheets, and have them make their own coloring book. Drawing contests for older kids are always fun!

-Build a "tent!"
Very fun in my opinion. Put chairs in a circle, and lay a big blanket on top! Crawl in and enjoy.
I love going "camping" with this idea. Set up the tent, roast marshmallows in the microwave, do a scavenger hunt, etc.

- Balloon games..
This is only good for kids older than about 5... The little ones can choke on broken balloon pieces. Play "keep it in the air" or do the game with the balloon tied to your ankle. Make sure to clean up!

-Limbo...

-Movie "theater"
Bring 4-5 movies for them to pick from, make tickets, have a concession stand.
A fun idea with this topic is if you can bring some large cardboard boxes to make fake cars out of and have a pretend drive in movie.

Just be creative!!

what do my husband and I need to go camping?

I haven't been camping since I was a kid. What equipment do I need? I don't want to spend a fortune on camping equipment, but I need to be comfortable. I am five months pregnant and feeling very sick. I think the outdoors would help me quite a bit. Any advice would be helpful thanks.

Answer
#1 most important thing.

Be comfortable.

Pick out a tent at Walmart/Kmart/Target that is large enough for one of those Coleman (or off brand) air mattresses to fit inside it. Twin size at least. The air mattress should come with (you may have to buy it seperate) battery operated blower/pump, to blow it up for you. If it rains...the 6" thick air matress will keep you up off the ground and dry...even if you have an inexpensive tent.

Try to find a shadey spot, wherever you set up your tent. Tents can get hot in the morning with the sun shining on them.

I'd say the rest ...keep as simple as you can. Setting up and taking down your camp should not the a "big" chore. If it is...your making it too hard on yourself.

My favorite time saver? I gotta have coffee in the morning. I don't mess with a perculator anymore. I buy those big pre-made coffee/filter bag things. Drop one or two in a camp pot...boil...coffee! No mess to clean up.

Keep the "camp" part of it simple. You will have more time to relax, explore or goof around.

Just my two cents...

Have fun!

How do I make hoop tunnel for dog agility?

Brooke A

Currently, I'm using a construction-type ditch pipe. I'd also like to know where I can purchase some nylon for the tunnel cover.

Answer
Bad idea. A good agility dog comes out of a tunnel faster than he went in it (and he went in it fast). That's because they can use the cloth of the tunnel for purchase. And they can run on the walls using centrifugal force. And the tunnel has give.

Your construction pipe will be slick inside and therefore difficult to get purchase on. The dog will have trouble running on the sides. Most importantly, when the enters at an angle and hits solid pipe, he'll learn to slow up. Your pipe will be teaching the dog to SLOW up when entering the tunnel. Totally wrong approach.

A stiff cardboard box is a far superior alternative. Dog's don't perceive the world the way we do. You see a pipe as similar to a tunnel because you're focusing on shapes. A dog sees a stiff card board box as similar to a competition grade tunnel because his experience running inside is more similar than it would be running inside a construction-grade pipe (that is more similar in shape to a competition-grade tunnel). Don't think like a human, think like a dog!

As for making/acquiring a tunnel:
--Look at Affordableagility.com and you'll find a competition-grade tunnel for $150.
--If you really want to go cheap, go to Target or JC Penny and buy a plastic kid's tunnel for $20. That is less than the material you'll spend MAKING a tunnel.
--If you insist on MAKING a tunnel, than the key is the piping that provides a secure but flexible tunnel frame. Almost any cloth that is stiff nylon or rip-stop will do keeping in mind that without any kind of rubber treat, your tunnel will develop rot and mold very quickly and will probably last less than 12 months (unless you can move it inside).

However, I suspect you aren't really trying to make a tunnel but a chute. In which case your approach makes more sense.

1. Go to affordable agility. Buy "agility in a bag." For $150 you get 6 PVC weave poles, 2 PVC adjustable jumps, a worthless pause box, a mediocre tire, and a perfectly useable chute (short tunnel with very appropriate cloth chute). It's worth the time and money you'd spend making the darn thing to just buy the kit. It even comes with a travel bag!
2. If you insist on making a chute, I still wouldn't use the construction ditch pipe. The challenge with the chute is to get material that isn't too light or too heavy. Too light and it becomes easily tangled, your dog will panic and you've trained them not to like the chute. To heavy and a small dog can't push it's way through. Some tent tarps or extendable covers (at a Target or camping store) might be appropriate as long as they aren't heavy duty material. Often times, tents or sunshades will have an extendable awning--that's the kind of material (and probably in an appropriate size) you'd be looking for. But the catch is--that will probably cost you more than it would to just buy the chute from Affordable agility.

what GOOD foods can I make before camping?

I can't do the hot dogs and hamburgers anymore. We are going on a 4 day tent camping trip next week. I am looking for food to prepare before we go. Like pasta salads to just eat . I also want to make the food ahead of time that I can cook while there. ideas? Just no hot dogs or hamburgers please. Thank you.

Answer
for camping trips I used to collect stuff to take that would be easy to prepare.

I made bisquick type blend for biscuits, pancakes, etc that just need water added.
Steaks and bacon or sausage for meats
fresh fruits and veggies travel best.
I even took one Cheesecake birthday cake one year!!

My kids were in elementary school the last long campout we had. So there were lots of hotdogs which I don't particularly like. No ground beef stuff as it is more mess than I wanted to do.

Prepare your pasta and put in ziplock bags in the chill box along with dressings for your salad. Don't put the dressing on the pasta until ready to eat. The pasta has a nasty habit of absorbing it.
Chop fruits and veggies and ziplock them
Soup can be prepared and ziplocked so it only has to be heated.
hardboil a dozen or so eggs and peel, zip lock them

fresh eggs can be cracked into ziplock bags also, then just pour each out separately into skillet for breakfast.

Anybody have a tent for their cat?

HobbesMom

Last weekend I went out to the Columbus Pet Expo here in Ohio. Among several toys and other things, I actually got a small tent for my cat! I think it's adorable (it looks like an elephant and is actually a kids' tent), and set it up in my living room. Here's a pic of the same tent I bought:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Elephant-Tent-Playhouse-Indoor-Outdoor-Play-House-Hut_W0QQitemZ130090150035QQcategoryZ11744QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The back has a nice big opening, the two feet in front unzip into kitty-sized entrances, and the ear flaps on the sides roll up revealing two screened windows. I put some blankets and toys inside, and my cat loves it! It's her own little fort. It's safe and sets up anywhere with just 2 tent poles on the inside.

Has anybody else out there tried this or something similar with their cat or kitten?

Answer
Yeah! My kitty loves hers.. Well... Loves destroying it... And I also got her a little privacy curtain for her litterbox. She loves it.

(She carries around the tentpoles and leaves them in the closet)

I have moved from a single family home to a 1 bedroom apartment. My son used to have his own toy room. Now the only place I have for him is the dining area. We dont use a dining table so we decided to use that area as his toy / play area. Any ideas on how I can organize that area so that I can make it his play area ?

Answer
Ikea has great kids organizational tubs and shelving. Not expensive, and a good way to keep order. A cheapy solution is to buy a collasable kids tent for him to play in.

What does your bug out bag consist of?

large camping tents for sale image

Winobot Du

I have decided to put together a bug out bag for a SHTF situation, and figured it would be a good idea to see what other people have so i dont forget something that would be useful. I have two US surplus day packs i will probably fill up. What do you have in yours and what is the bag?

Answer
I use many duffel bags that i got for free, and one wooden ammo case that I refinished. I also have a few unmarked cardboard boxes.
my BOB is something I stick into the minivan and get out of town asap. I have no plans to hike out of town, I live in the middle of a large city.

12 MREs handpicked, all my favorite menus
32 bottles of water- Kirkland 16.9 FL oz each
various meal bars from the supermarket
tablets for purifying water
funny purple tablets for cooking with (military surplus), I bought lots and lots.
mountain house dehydrated foods, 36 units, favorites only
water filter
2x collapsible 2L water bags
2x military OD green plastic canteens
titanium knife-fork-spoon utensil
as many matchbooks as I can cram into a 1 gallon zip lock bag
several cheap Bic lighters
metal camping cooking pot + lid
collapsible cooking rack that I made from aluminum

$200 in cash, $10s and $20s
one roll silver quarters (face value = $10, worth $130)
1 carton Grand Prix menthol cigarettes - for trade, sale, or personal use.
1 bag rolling tobacco, lots of paper slips for rolling. - for sale, trade, or personal use

a 3.2 million volt stun gun and LED flashlight
AK bayonet, Yugo style
mini crowbar, 18"
a FAK (I call it a field aid kit) I'm still adding stuff to it

3x15 min road flares
2x30 min road flares
3x coast guard approved signal flares
Camping Gaz piezoelectric 80W blue butane lamp
2x blue butane bottles (for the lamp)
1 wooden ammo case that holds lots and lots of glow sticks, and anything else fragile. its has tons of padding, it was designed to take a 33 foot fall without any glow sticks breaking. 33feet is because that's the highest I test the case falling. I threw it off the roof to the cold, hard concrete driveway below. I think its 33 feet, I'm really bad at math.
1 5x night vision monocular, waterproof
20 CR123 batteries
1x LED Lenser P7 flashlight,
3x AAA battery packs
1x trusty old Ti83 calculator sealed in plastic (to make water proof)
1- 4 man Coleman tent
2 sleeping bags (in case I bring someone with me)

all local area maps
spare battery pack (external, 12V) for GPS with hand crank charger (something I rigged up)
12 BLM maps covering everything within 150 miles of my house
1 really obsolete 1978 detailed street map book of LA and Orange county - something my parents uses, i have it in case the gps breaks. I am not buying a new one, even if they're still in print.
1 book detailing wilderness survival
1 book detailing auto repair and troubleshooting
1 clear plastic ruler
1 book detailing medial aid
4 compasses- in case one broke.

for defensive purposes, my vehicle may be attacked, ambushed, or mobbed depending on the situation, I must be prepared for that.
a simple cardboard box holds 10x 30rd AK magazines, 12 clips of russian light ball for my mosin nagant, 5 clips of Czech AP for my mosin nagant, 35- 20 ga #3 buck, 50- 20 ga 3/4 oz slugs, orange and grey smoke emitters, two bricks of .22lr, various fireworks or firecrackers I believe may be used, and two machetes- one cheap walmart one for chopping and one expensive Ontario knife one for sawing. that would be put up front next to me between my passenger.
the few cardboard boxes part of my BOB holds even more ammo. 960 rounds of 7.62x39mm, 370 rounds 7.62x54mmr, 3660 rounds .22lr, 182 #7.5 birdshot, and many, many, many "firecrackers".

the BOB is to get out of the city into the forests and be able to live out there for at least 2 months with occasional ventures into the city for more supplies and such.

Is DayZ (Arma 2) worth getting if none of my friends have it?

Ben

Is it still fun to play alone? Or should I get a different game (Such as Assassin's Creed Revelations)?

ill put it to you like this, its entirely playable solo. but there are 3 huge playstyle changes, plus advantages and disadvantages depending on your group size. solo you want to stick to smaller towns, the woods, go to deer stands and use lakes and animals to eat and drink. on top of you playing solo your going to have a rough start, learning agro, when to shoot, how to scout, and how to watch your own back, a group of 2-3 is optimal, like i think the best example ive seen is xcal, drj, and dannyboy i think the name of the video was outplayed by server reset, dannyboy scouted, drj sniped, and xcal had a fully auto and did zombie control and actually saved drj from getting hatcheted by a bandit. large groups where they seem good its outweighed by its disadvantages, 1st 4 to 5 or more players unless you all know each other in real life equals feeling alone and paranoid due to lack of trust, easier to aggro infected and harder to get rid of them, and the worst scavenging towns and just traveling becomes a bit** due to how easy it is to spot your group, i mean its fun solo until you get good gear, then fear and paranoia start to set in, because it can take like 4 or 5 hours to get good gear and 20 minutes to lose it. if you do decide to get it, your focus every spawn should go in this order, you usually spawn with bandages 2 i think, more is always better so keep a look out for them but theyre not a necessity, priority 1 is a hatchet cus you aint ish you you cant at least protect yourself, step 2 is either a hunting knife or a canteen whichever youre closer to running out of, nothing like starvation or dehydration and your screen going gray to make a difficult game more difficult, then you should go for blood packs and bandages, because going for weapons getting them and bleeding out is frustrating, go for morphine while youre at it as well, nothing like broken limbs and having to crawl to piss you off, but beware hospitals are the easiest place to find meds, so bandits and large groups camp them, now go for a compass/map, it takes a hour to 4-5 hours to get from certain towns to another, dont want to get lost, now if youre all set up last 2 things on your list are weapons and a tent, tents can store the stuff you dont want to lose on death, yet act like a dead body so anyone can loot them, put on a flat surface in a place people will over look, and weapons solo is hard to say, i would recommend going sniper because you want to avoid close encounter situation in the 1st place, but you need either a pistol or a hatchet to handle close range and zombies. never go after large groups, you may kill 1 or 2 before u aggro zombies and have to deal with them making you a easy target. btw if youre considering getting it because its on sale look through steam, and download the gamestop app, theres things like the da origins ultimate edition for $8 etc, just saying dont set your heart out on this game, and most definitely since your asking this question im going to give you some more advice, look up solo playing vids and see if it still looks, 2 or 3 people playing makes it look awesome but solo takes alot of patience and desperate trust, because if you get hurt, youre going to eventually need someone to do a blood transfusion and you cant do that solo. btw theres also survivor and bandit message boards to help you get in a group, but be forewarned theres a lot of trolls up there, they may not kill you immediately, but i wouldnt let them know right off if you get good loot, cuz they may take the opportunity to get a easy sniper rifle, shit when i started playing id kill for a pistol

She is still in the military and coming up on a deployment soon I belive. I just got out not to long ago but we are looking for something that we could afford. Nothing to big and fancy but more romantic and suttle with family and a few close friends. We will be fronting most of the money with little help from the outside. But we are open for anything Vegas has been brought up but im still looking?

Answer
A state park, beach, or somewhere like that that will give your guys lots of visual memories. Somewhere you can go back to on your anniversaries. I say rent a tent/ or small pavilion from a local rental place just in case it rains, and for a focal place for seating. Doesn't the military have an office that you can borrow everything from volleyball nets to camping stuff? Get some chairs from them or even the pavilion, provided it isn't camo. Don't do dinner, it's way to expensive!!!!! Hor-deurves are what we did (catered) and we hired a couple of high school kids to serve dressed in black and white. Don't forget disposable cameras for your guests. They leave them there and you develop them. My best wedding photo came from one of these. Skip real flowers in favor of craft store ones. They'll last longer and are about 1/8 the price on sale. Good luck!

shes had it over 6 months she has new dora blankets and a nightlight. she will play in her room in the day. but will sleep on couch or living room floor at night. hy wont she sleep in the new bed. what can i do to try to get her used to it
????????

Answer
Help them overcome nighttime fears. Many children want to sleep with parents because they are afraid to sleep alone. They may be afraid of the dark. They may be afraid of "monsters." They may have real issues that are causing fear. Talk to your child to find out why she wants to sleep with you and then arm her with tools that will make her feel secure. This might mean giving her a flashlight, a bottle of monster spray or teaching her a saying that will make her less afraid.

2
Make his bed and bedroom more desirable than yours. Moms and dads tend to have great big beds that are soft and warm and fun to sleep in. Make your child's bed fun in a way that is unique for him. Put up a tent over his bed. Add a feather bed under the sheets (for kids over 5). Consider a loft bed or full-sized bed (based on age). Do a bit of decorating in exchange for a promise to sleep in his own bed.

3
Have snuggle time in the morning. If it is snuggle time your child does not want to give up, then give them snuggle time in the morning. After she has slept in her bed all night, allow her to come into your bed for a 15 minute snuggle time before you start your day.

4
Send her to the bathroom when she wakes up. Some kids get up because they have to go to the bedroom. Habit, however, brings them to mom's and dad's bed instead, where they may also have an accident. When they stand over you saying "I woke up," just answer, "because you have to go to the bathroom," and then direct them there.

5
Return them to their beds. Be persistent about bringing them to their beds every time they try to get into yours. Give in one time, and you have given them the idea that if they nag and whine, you will let them in.

6
Lock your door. Once the child reaches the age of 8 and 9 (and are of equal maturity), lock your door. This way, they cannot sneak into your bed on those times when you are sleeping too deeply to protest. This will also tell them that they need to be invited into the bed and are not allowed access to it whenever they want.

We will be four in a tent, me, my wife and our 2 kids, 11 and 10 years old...I have no idea what tents to buy and other things to bring...Whats the best tent to buy? since am new to camping, I want a tent thats easy to install but can accomodate us comfortably..

Answer
You didn't say if you were driving to a campground (like a state park) or hiking in. I will assume you are driving in, where you can access your vehicle and that you aren't going really high up. The more elevation, the colder it will be, especially at night. Adjust accordingly.

You should go to a sporting goods store and check the tents out first to find the size you want. I think the ones that say "6 person" are a little better. They give you room to sleep and stow some of your gear (clothes, etc).

If you are only going for two days, you should get a 1 room fairly simple one with a rain fly. You can find one probably $50-$75 at the cheapest. The inexpensive ones have a couple of long poles that come apart and you basically make two "bows" into an "X" pattern. These usually only take a few minutes to set up. If you really want to spend money, you can get one with multiple rooms or a little vestibule for taking off shoes or whatnot. Costco has one for $150 that sets up in seconds, according to the ad. I bought mine from Costco maybe 8-10 years ago for around $50, but it's an older style one.

You will want air mattresses, at least one double for you and your wife. Probably singles for your kids. Most kids don't need them, but it's nice. You can buy a cheap pump that runs off of your 12v car outlet. Since it is summer, you can buy light sleeping bags. You can even get away with regular bedding on an air mattress pretty easy. Don't forget pillows.

Camping stove -- 2 burner propane usually works fine. Bring crappy pans (we get ours at Goodwill). Don't forget a couple of tubs for washing dishes. I take paper plates and paper cups with no wax, so they burn easy. Maybe I should recycle...bah, I just eliminate more dishes.

Lantern or at least flashlights. I have a two mantle propane lantern and several small LED flashlights.

Here are some of the small things we usually bring:

cooler and ice
toilet paper (USFS and most state parks have single ply thin stuff)
baby wipes (good for cleaning up)
Rope, bungee cords, etc for hanging things
bags (for garbage, cans, etc) paper or plastic
small hatchet or axe and a pocket knife or leatherman
metal prongs designed for cooking over the fire (s'mores and hot dogs)
Small broom. For cleaning out the tent or clearing area to put tent
bug spray and sunblock
newspaper (fire starter)
can opener

Depending on the location and the amount of room you have in your vehicle, you might want to consider bringing firewood. It's usually expensive at or near campgrounds.

I might be forgetting a few things. I go camping a lot. I live about an hour away from two National Forests and several state parks. We actually have a 20-some gallon tote full of our stuff and we just bring that in the back of our truck.

have fun!
