Modern low cost ideas for decorating?

kids tent modern on Bed With Tent For Children - Buy Modern Loft Bed,Kids Loft Beds,Kids ...
kids tent modern image
Q. Im looking for some creative ideas of inspiration for decorating a new place....
cant paint- and cant put any holes in the walls.

Answer
Build a free standing frame.
The first idea is something like a shogi screen but then I thought of those free standing chalkboards we had in class rooms when I was a kid.
Basically, it is a "T" made of 2"x4" boards 7' high(or less if you have low ceilings). Turn them with the T side(like feet about six inches long) down and connect with a 2"x2" board across the top and bottom approximately the length of the largest blank wall.
With a plant in a heavy pot at each end (to keep kids or pets from climbing ) hang fabric from the frame, you can hide a hallway or ugly closet doors leaving openings to access them.
You can hang a lot of gathered fabric to make a tent effect, or just stretch it and staple it to the frame for a fresh canvas look that you can change the color of seasonally if you like.
Also if you stand your screen eight to ten inches from the wall you can hide ugly book cases or clutter and back light it with a lamp for mood and always present a fresh clean uncluttered line.

What did women do before "womens products"?

skjbf.f

You know what im talking about.
I just heard that pads weren't made until the 1920's

Answer
There are many tribes whose traditions for womens menses involved a variety of activities that precluded wearing feminine products. It was a tradition among some tribes that women lived in separate tents and wore deer thatch (very soft pleasant feeling hide) to slow the bleeding. most tribes forbade women from doing any manual labor, any activities with the tribe, even forbade them from doing housework/hutwork. They were required to sit rest or walk, take many baths and eat the healthiest foods (usually also the most tasty) available. In some south American tribes the use of cocoa was forbidden except during menses and was strictly kept for women. Once the development of cotton clothing occurred women wore a variety of cloths to regulate the flow. While rural women in America wore cottons many people wore silk or linens with similar material to the modern feminine products. Those "rags" as they were called were thrown away or washed depending on the culture and were actually as hygienic as the products you use today, if not more comfortable. There are many women throughout the world who do not use products instead still using the "rags"

But really what's interesting is not what they wore but how often they wore it. According to the best research women have to use theose products 600 times in their lifetime on average. Yet women from earlier time periods often had to use them far less as little as 100 in a lifetime. Part of this was because they had more kids and fewer menses accordingly but apparently in general women had fewer menses in any given year, 7 to the modern women's 12, and each menses was shorter by at least a day, and it also produced less bleeding. So while you have good products they just used them less. Which would you rather have 7 short periods with cotton, or 12 long periods with modern feminine products?

I need to buy a compact, lightweight tent for a cycling holiday in France. Can anyone recommend something relatively cheap (under £75) and a decent sleeping bag? Thanks

Answer
I highly recommend this ...
Coleman 2008 SunDome 7-Foot by 7-Foot 3-Person Dome Tent
http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-SunDome-7-Foot-3-Person-Orange/dp/B001C1A362/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1248165586&sr=1-1&tag=aor-sale-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957

This past weekend was my first experience with this tent - a simply awesome performer for under [...] bucks. I sealed the seams on the rainfly the day before and upgraded the tent stakes all for an additional $[...]. Set-up was a breeze and took under 10 minutes (I placed a tarp down below). Good thing, because the rain came 5 minutes later in buckets and lasted all night. The tent held up like a champ with no leakage what so ever. The size was just perfect for two adults and a few gear bags (or a kid). Highly recommended!

Coleman Ash Canyon 25-Degree Rectangular Oversize Sleeping Bag
http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-25-Degree-Rectangular-Oversize-Sleeping/dp/B0009PUQ28/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1248166146&sr=1-9&tag=aor-sale-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957

This a nice and comfortable sleeping bag. The zipper works nicely and it is a very nice and roomy sleeping bag. It rolls up nice and fairly compact compared to my old one. I am very happy with it and would recommend it to anyone interested in buying a sleeping bag.

Where can I find used exercise equipment in Wisconsin?

I went to these garage sales where they had weights and stuff and they were really cheap so I was wondering If there was I place I could go to like a thrift store to buy a medball some weights and who knows what else I could find. I prefer not to shop online.

Answer
Try Play it Again Sports. My husband has gotten golf clubs there as well as baseball stuff for the kids.

Otherwise, check out www.craigslist.com. It's not really like you're buying on-line, it's just on-line classifieds that are totally free. You put in what area you are in, what you are looking for, and it finds the posts for you. Call or email the seller and get an address to go check it out. No obligation to buy. And using it is totally free.

Another idea, if you are looking to save a buck, sign up for free cycle in your area. The only rule with free cycle is it has to be free. You never know. Someone might be trying to get rid of their old weights and just wants them gone, free of charge. You sign up and receive email ads from people who are looking for something or looking to get rid of something.

Yet another idea, we live in a smaller community in central wisconsin. I don't know where you live, but here we have a radio show called "over the back fence". People call in if they are trying to sell something or are looking for something to buy. I've gotten a serger and a camping tent through that show.

My mom is adopting toddlers from the Philippines. Where can I find traditional Filipino toys, games, anything?

I'd like to make her a gift basket for Christmas and so far I've found children's books, cook books, and books to learn Tagalog. Is there anything I can get her that's not a book?

Answer
modern day filipinos have the same toys as any normal kid have but long ago, traditional filipino games use indigenous materials that can be found on their environment such as coconut shells, wood, abaca, bamboo, rattan, and clay. for example, miniature clay pots for "play-cooking", abaca for dolls, and any toy that can be made out of these materials. most of them don't have toys yet at this age and use their imagination and resourcefulness to substitute things like blanket for tents as playhouses, leaves as food(a little dangerous tho) and stones to assemble things. the bulk of traditional filipino toys are in school age years.

so its ok if you'd just give her toys that can be found anywhere. besides, these traditional things are very hard to find nowadays.

Kadeisha S

Please list four activities I can put on a volunteer application.its four a year long volunteer program and I have no prior experience in anything related to this program.anything will do,pretty much.thanks for your help.

Answer
What they are looking for is information that tells them about the type of interests you have so that they'd have a better idea of who you are and what might interest you within their organization and what your transferable skills might be. http://www.quintcareers.com/transferable_skills_set.html. Since it's a year long program, they want to know if had experience managing your basic life like work or school and doing something else, because if you get the opportunity to volunteer with them, that's what you'll be doing. Anything that you interests you could be considered a passion and volunteer work needs passionate people.

1) Think about what you'd like to do with this organization and choose an answer that would support this interest. What skills does it take to do these activities and how could they transfer to the volunteer work.

2) If you don't have one activity that you always do, then showing that you "keep busy" after school shows that will have the energy to participate in their volunteer program.

Have you ever babysat children or the elderly or sick for family or other people? This shows you are a responsible caretaker and likely a good listener. Do you like to read? You could read to others in their program or help others read. It also shows that you can concentrate for extended periods and finish what you start, like reading a book from cover to cover. Do you play sports or like to exercise (even riding a bike or walking)? Whether in a team or alone, this shows motivation, discipline, commitment, an interest in physical fitness and that you have extra energy. In a team, cooperation and reaching goals is important. You'll use these skills when you volunteer. Do you like to work? Have you ever had a job or done work for others? Do you or have you belonged to any school groups? This shows these same skills as team sports and shows you are a joiner. Do you go to church? This shows you participate in a community activity and like to get together with people. That faith and encouraging others is important to you. Do you take care of your family's yard? Just cutting grass and raking leaves could be considered an interest and hobby. You like gardening and lawn work which takes hard work and discipline to keep it looking nice on a regular basis. Do you like to cook? This shows you can follow instructions, like recipes. Cooking, like any hobby, shows that you have passion for something and are willing to support it by participating in activity. Do you like to camp or go hiking? This shows you make plans and know how make adjustments for needs that may arise during activity. You have to put together a tent and map out a path to hike and know how to handle an emergency. Both also require physical fitness and stamina. Do you or have you participate in any school groups? Again, transferable interests and skills for volunteering. Have you ever helped raise money, even if it's for a school? Do you like participating in fundraising activities? That shows initiative and drive. Do you like to take care of animals/pets? That shows commitment to responsibility and compassion.

Also, consider United Way First Call for Help http://www.unitedway.com not only lists community resources for those in need, but also, volunteer opportunities for those ages 13 and over.

Good luck to you!

How can someone stand to be married to the same person for 20 years?

.

or even 10 and see the same face every morning and wake up and not have sex with the same person they despise so much or are bored with so much. Why do people get married anyway?
@mrsed: typical delusional woman. do you seriously thinks he feels the same about you? do you know who he's been boinking these past few nights? Certainly not you! if you could only see how bored he's with you, you'd reconsider. I feel sorry for you. You made it easy for him!
@Jiggy: truth hurts?

Answer
Well if your response to one of your answers is what I can expect, I am truly reluctant to answer in case I am get the same reaction, but what the heck, I will give it a go.

It is called: LOVE actually. My husband and I have been married for 20 years and it is never dull. We LOVE waking up to the same face everyday. My husband says that it would make him feel sick to find another woman's face on the pillow and I feel the same way!

You know, one of my sisters said the same thing. She actually also said: I feel so sorry for you that you can't act out your fantasies. I responded: how on earth do you know what goes on in the bedroom? How do you know that I don't act out my fantasies with my husband? It is basically assuming that you cannot find complete contentment with one man - or woman.

My husband and I find it highly sexy that our Creator approves our union and we have if you like, a whole canvas to work with. We also feel so very proud to have achieved this status.

I never get bored with making love to my husband and I happen to know, he doesn't with me because he says that he can't touch me slightly on my arm without feeling naughty and I see the evidence plainly! It does help that we take care of our appearances. I dress a lot for my husband. I know what turns him on and he knows the same with me.

We are both very sexual people and not shy to talk about it with each other. It is also wonderful to make mistakes in the bedroom and just laugh it off and that is because we know each other so very well.

We can be in a crowded room but still find each other and lock eyes. We also talk with our eyes. If we are standing side by side, he will gently squeeze my hand and me in turn and we are saying: I love you darling. We hold hands when we are out together. We say: I love you every single day. We leave romantic notes for each other. All these keep our marriage a live and kicking!

And I know with my very being that he is not being false with me. In fact we talk about this a lot because I fear that a woman will walk into our lives, and he will be lost to me, because it does feel too good to be true that I have a husband who finds me desirable after all these years! Also everyone who knows us says that we are like two halves that fit together and they can see when we look at each other how deeply we love each other!

And another thing: despite us living together, we often say: I feel as if I have not seen anything of you for a while? At the moment he is very busy with work and it is work - I just have to look at him when he comes home for a day of gardening lol!

The key to a successful marriage is to keep it alive and talk, talk and talk. We are not a perfect couple and still argue, but I believe because our first years together were dreadful - we rowed every single day and really wondered what one earth we had done by getting married! But with perseverance, we can say we are happy to be married to each other and I would never want to be married to another man and I can tell you, despite not being great looking, I still get chaps liking me, yet not one of them is a patch on my darling.

A couple of friends came to stay with us a while back and they have been married for about 10 years and you would honestly mistake them for an old married couple not us and that is because I am always sitting on my husband's lap and he is always wanting a kiss of me; we hug all the time and he often takes me aside and says: can't wait for them to go back to their tent so we can be alone: wink, wink! Our friends acted completely differently! In fact one morning and I found this so embarrassing, her husband - our friend from our early marriage, looked at me with appreciation because of simple dress and said to his wife: do you have to wear those horrible slops? The difference is they have children and we don't!

And that is another thing. I wear skirts and dresses still and also can still wear mini skirts, so if my husband says: I would love to see you in a black mini with a white blouse. He goes into the garden, I go upstairs and change into what he would like and wow the reaction - fantastic!!

We act like newly married couple most times and many have laughed and said yep, you would not think you have been married for 20 years!

I have to babysit in a few days. It seems as though every time I babysit, there is not enough to do and the kids are always bored or lose interest in what we are doing. The children are 3 and 5. What are some new and fun activities that will keep the kids occupied for a good amount of time, and isn't too messy?

Answer
-hide n' seek
-coloring
-building them playhouses/tents out of every day things around the house (blankets, chairs, pillows, etc)

What should I get my niece and nephew for Christmas?

I'm really horrible at picking out Christmas presents for children. My niece is 8 years old and I was thinking about getting her a computer game b/c she's getting a computer for Christmas (very spoiled!). But I don't know what game. Also, my nephew is 6 and I have absolutely no idea what to get him!
Any suggestions?

Answer
Well I wouldn't get her a computer game..8 yr. olds don't need to be on the computer (let alone have their OWN!) and if you get her a game you're just promoting using the computer--something an 8 yr. old doesn't need to be doing.

Here are some ideas for both kids..hope they help :-)

For your niece:

-Barbie dolls and accessories
-Some kind of craft kit like "make your own bead jewelry"
-Hair ties, bows, play make up, etc.
-A journal, cute stationary, pens/pencils

For your nephew:

-A box of Legos or Knex
-Any kind of board game maybe like "Disney Scene It"
-A scooter (somewhere I was last weekend had Razor scooters for $25..they used to be $100)
-A playdough kit
-A tent/playhouse

What is a simple & "free" birthday party to host for our 9 year old son?

kids tent you draw on image

Live, Love

Our son is wanting to get together with about six or seven of his closest friends for his "belated" birthday celebration. Our son loves the Wii video game and loves to hang out with his friends. He loves to draw, he's really good at it too! What type of party would you suggest that we have that won't break our wallet? We are on an extremely tight budget due to job pay cuts etc...We want our son to have a great and memorable party. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Answer
I'd say a sleepover is a great idea. If he loves the Wii and his friends do, too, then just let them play the games that he already has. Maybe have a championship game for the top scorers.

For refreshments, most boys like brownies and chocolate chip cookies. You could have a birthday brownies or a birthday cookies.

Make your own sundaes. Vanilla ice cream. Chocolate Syrup, sprinkles, M & M's, nuts, cherries, etc. They will have fun doing this.

Since we're close to Halloween, you could go with a Halloween theme. Rent some scary movies. Maybe buy each boy a pumpkin to carve (or decorate with paint, fabric, etc, if you are more comfortable with that--grocery store is cheaper than a pumpkin farm). Have Halloween themed food (freeze spider rings or gummy worms) in ice trays for spooky ice cubes. Worms (slice hot dogs in long strips and boil in water and they'll curl up and look like worms). Mummy Dogs (hot dog wrapped with breadstick dough and bake and then put eyes on with mustard). Caramel Apples (you can make these ahead of time or let the boys dip them-roll in nuts or decorate with M&M's or candy corn). Drink hot cocoa with a floating eyeball (large marshmallow with Choc Chip inserted in the middle). Cupcakes or brownies decorated with Halloween decorations. Potato Bugs (tater tots inserted onto raw spahetti noodle and bake per directions-use catsup for the eyes. Wal-Mart has gummy eyeballs, worms, and spiders. There's also a severed foot or hand in the candy aisle that's gummy w/ some sort of hard candy in the middle-gross but good for 9 year old boys.

Pizza. Make your own, you can buy the crusts premade, use canned biscuits or make your own crusts and a wide variety of toppings. Or, Pizza Hut has the $5 Pizza Mia (a medium) but you have to buy at least 3 to get them for $5 each. They would be less mess and could be cheaper.

Do you have a yard? If so, a camp out. Pitch some tents, have the boys bring sleeping bags. Build a fire in a fire pit (if you have one). Roast hot dogs and make smores. Play horse shoes or ring toss or both. Hold sack races (you can use old pillow cases-can buy from Salvation Army for cheap). Buy some glow sticks or cheap flashlights for the kids to play with outside to tell ghost stories or play ghosts in the graveyard.

What are some rainy day activities to do to keep the kids busy?

cuelviolin

I need something that'll keep them off the video games, computers, and television.

Answer
I make things such as homemade play-dough......i get a box and make a scene on the box and we draw, co lour and cut out things to go on the scene like a farm or space scenes.
Boardgames.....the game Headbandz is a really fun game depending on the ages of the kids. I bake cookies and have things set out for them to decorate their own. Collect rocks on a sunny day at the beach and then on rainy days they can paint them to look like animals. Thumbprint animals are fun..you let them dip their thumb in thin paint to make a print and give them markers to draw eyes and feathers. Set up a tent in the living room and have a camping trip with a fake fire with red and orange tissue paper with some little pieces of wood. Hope I gave you some ideas.

What are some toys that kids ages 6-12 can play with together? There is also a 1 1/2 year old. Preferably something that can be played with outside and at least 4 or 5 kids can play with at a time or take turns playing. Something the 1 1/2 year old would enjoy too if you can possibly think of anything to fit with that age. We are already buying a slipping slide and sand toys. Does anyone else have any suggestions? Something that isn't very expensive either. Thanks.

I just got married, so yeah, i want to live in a nice, convenient environment and a place where my kids can get a great education
thanks!
A lot of people say that America is a free countries full of opportunities. Is that true? I have a couple friends who live in California and they say California's the best state to live in~ but I dunno.

Answer
Australia, good economy and high standard of living ,good high paying wages and heaps of employment, career and business opportunities and there is no recession here.

There isn't any ghettos or people living in trailers, tent cities, poverty or people begging on the street. There also isn't any street gangs, obese kids or kids on crack or 14 year olds pushing prams or having abortions, school or drive by shootings or bothering religious people preaching dogma on the streets.

The state school education curriculum system is in the top five in the world outside of Asia. All Children here are very highly educated and fully computer savvy do get the best education.

My folks sent me to school in Australia and when I returned back to the states to do a term of school, due to family reasons. I was nearly four years advanced in education to peers in the USA. I came back to Australia to complete my education. Education here is highly focused on further higher education and trade apprenticeships to obtain career skills in all skilled work industries.

With the Californian weather, all kids here all play outside safely and are encouraged to fully be actively involved in team sport and outdoors activities. We all do pretty much being the weather here is far too good to be sitting inside.

Everyone here speaks all English, there is low to no crime, the streets are clean and safe to walk down any hour of the day or night. In all the years I've been here I've never seen any snakes etc only at the zoo. There are no Kangaroo jumping around either, only out in the bush or down the coast there is. Their harmless and they will eat bread from your hand and follow you for more.

The lifestyle is great, being from the US you would never feel isolated or homesick living, working or raising your children here. All business here runs 24/7, you can go out anytime of the day or night to the gym or grocery shopping, to a cafe or restaurant to have a meal or to a bar or club to have a drink.

I work in television over here, so I work weird and wonderful shifts. It's great knowing when you finish work whatever hour, you can still go to the gym or do your grocery shopping. Without ever rushing, and even on the weekends. Believe it or not, there are still Drive In theatres over here too. Gas here is around a dollar forty a gallon and cheaper at some gas stations.

Over here as well here are Westfield shopping malls, Safeways, Aldi's and all the known name grocery stores and chains. Fast food restaurants Mc Donald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, Hungry Jacks, Burger King, Gloria Jeans and Starbucks. KFC, Pizza Hut, Domino's etc, etc.

All the major international bands on world tour, live theatre, Broadway shows, opera etc are here as well. All the movies come out a day before they are released in the US.

Letterman, The View, Oprah, Judge Judy, Ellen, NBC Today, Good Morning America, US Football and Baseball etc are on free to air TV. So are CSI , Prison Break, NCIS, Desperate Housewives, Heroes, Earl, Supernatural, Medium, Weeds, Dexter, Califorication etc etc all are Fast Tracked and shown here before the US or at the same time.

What I like about Australia there is no BS, all the people here are highly educated and career minded , friendly, honest down to earth and I've made a lot of new friends (Mates). There's only twenty million people who live here. The government here pays you to have children and gives you $5,000 dollars to help you out on each child. Paid time off to both mother and father, The benefits here what the government gives you are unbelievable, they even "give" you a $12,000 first home buyers grants.

The medical system you have a choice to be on the "Totally Free" no tax at all Universal public medicare system or you can choose to be in the Private health system.

The wages I'm paid here are nearly four times more than what I'd be paid in the US, plus you get paid superannuation, shift penalties and allowance, plus five weeks paid annual leave and 15 days paid sick day leave.

There is always heaps of overtime and it's easy to get a second job. Even the casual minim wage paid here is $18.90 when you add the shift allowances you get about twenty five an hour, time and a half Saturdays, double time working Sundays and triple time on public holidays.

As for holidays, name anything it's all here, snow skiing, island or beach side holidays, camping, fishing, safari's, horse or camel riding along the beach or in the country, or even visit the Irwins (lol) .Australia is the same size as the USA and is totally unpopulated.

So there are no crowded anything believe me there are more freedoms here than in the USA. With the anti discrimination laws, everyone here has the same equal rights and pay, work conditions and opportunities for both men and women. There is over 200,000 other Americans who live here and who calls Australia home. You should even come here for a holiday sometime.

50,000 of us Americans live and work in Sydney.

But neighbour's patience

Finally, white guy

Now I buy his house,
and then I say,

"Find more aliens

And in the yard
I put a tent.

Send for family

But they, too,

Too darn good for

EDIT. Listen sexygal gay OZ, get the fuk off my question, goin on about jesus you jerk, you get on religion and sprout all your athiest crap, when some one catches up with you soon, you will wish you had god on your side then, goat boy. your taxi must stink inside, do you shower in the morning, the BO smell from indian cabbys is disgusting, the comments they make to australian girls is appalling too. i wont block you gay oz, just to prove when this question goes missing that its your handy work again, go and wash, you stink big, and leave the goat alone, poor animals.
IAINYFAY wtf, the govt give nothing to indians-------------- It is interesting that the federal government provides a single refugee with a monthly allowance of $1, 890.00 and each can also get an additional $580.00 in social assistance for a total of $2,470.00.

This compares very well to a single pensioner who after contributing to the growth and development of Canada for 40 to 50 years can only receive a monthly maximum of $1, 012.00 in old age pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement.

Maybe our pensioners should apply as refugees!

Lets send this to all Canadians, so we can all be ticked off and maybe we can get the refugees cut back to $1, 012.00 and the pensioners up to $2,470 00 and enjoy some of the money we were forced to submit to the Government over the last 40 or 50 years.

Please forward to every Canadian to expose what our elected politicians are doing - to the over-taxed Canadian.

Cat3312

Please help!
Please help! They apparently played it on cartoonnetwork. My sister says she used to love that movie, but only watched it twice.

Answer
Was it a stop-motion, 3-D animated movie? Then it was probably "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" -- a TV special.

If not, the alternative is probably "The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus" -- an animated movie for a TV special created by Rankin-Bass in 1985 (based on the 1902 children's book written by L. Frank Baum and illustrated by Mary Cowles Clark).

Mike Young Productions also made an animated adaptation of Baum's book and directed by Glen Hill in 2000. Robby Benson and Dixie Carter provided the main voices. It's available to buy on Amazon.com at: http://www.amazon.com/Life-Adventures-Santa-Claus-VHS/dp/B00004W46G

Here's the storyline:
Santa Claus, as a baby, is found in the Forest of Burzee by Ak, Master Woodsman of the World, and placed in the care of the lioness, Shiegra. The Wood Nymph, Necile, breaks the law of the forest and takes the baby because she desires to raise a child of her own as mortals do, convincing Ak that since he made the law, he can allow an exception.

Necile calls him Claus, meaning "little one" in the old Burzee language, but Queen Zurline gives him the more formal name Neclaus, "Necile's Little One." He is educated by the immortals of the Forest such as fairies, nymphs, gnomes, knooks, elves, imps, demons and spirits.

Upon reaching young adulthood, Ak decides it is time for Claus to see how other mortals live. He sees war, brutality, poverty, child neglect and abuse and is frustrated by mortals' very existence. Ak encourages him not to shy away from the mortals, because he is one, and must learn to live among them, as he cannot reside in Burzee as an adult. He settles in the nearby Laughing Valley of Hohaho, where the immortals regularly visit and assist him, and Necile give him a little cat named Blinky.

In Hohaho, he becomes well known for his kind acts toward children. He started inventing toys and soon, the immortals begin assisting him. The Awgwas, evil beings who can turn invisible, steal the toys that Claus is giving to the children, because the toys are preventing the children from misbehaving. This leads to Claus making his journeys by night and descending through chimneys when he is unable to enter the locked doors.

As his journeys continue, Claus is aided by two deer named Glossie and Flossie, who cart his sleigh full of toys. With their aid, he reaches the dominions of the Gnome King, who wants toys for his children, but does not believe in the concept of gifts, so he trades a string of sleigh bells for each toy given by Claus. Claus gathers eight more reindeer, as they become called: Racer, Pacer, Fearless, Peerless, Ready, Steady, Feckless, and Speckless, and trades enough toys with the Gnome King to get a string of bells for each one.

As his fame spread far and wide, he became recognized as a saint, earning the title "Santa" ("Saint" in most Romance languages). Rumors Claus would have disagreed with say that naughtiness will make him stop bringing toys, but Claus "brought toys to the children because they were little and helpless, and because he loved them. He knew that the best of children were sometimes naughty, and that the naughty ones were often good. It is the way with children, the world over, and he would not have changed their natures had he possessed the power to do so. "And that is how our Claus became Santa Claus. It is possible for any man, by good deeds, to enshrine himself as a Saint in the hearts of the people."

Claus sees stockings placed by the fire to dry are a good place for his surprises, but when he finds a family (sometimes taken to be Native Americans, sometimes caricatures of the same) living in a tent with no fireplaces and very little of their own, he lops the top off a small tree and places the gifts on the branches of the trees just outside the tent.

Once Claus is in his 60s, the Immortals realize he is near the end of his life. A council was formed to decide the fate of Santa Claus. After much debate, the immortals decide that using the Mantle of Immortality on Santa Claus is more appropriate than continuing to wait for someone more worthy, and he is granted immortality just as the Spirit of Death comes for him.

What is THE best 1st birthday gift for a baby boy? He likes music and is very active, climbing, etc.?

Shawn

My kids are grown. I could spend up to $75.

Answer
I'd say there is not just one 'THE best' 1st birthday gift to give. Therefore it is difficult to point you to just one gift idea.
Since you say this boy is very active, how about a BIG Bobby Car? This can be used both inside and outside. It's a bit more expensive (94 $ on amazon) but it a great toy for sure and can be used for many years. The same applies for a Radio Flyer Car or a Little Tykes Cozy Car.

Also cute and a toy for many years to come, is a kid's play tent. You could get a pop-up tent with a crawling tunnel. Babies and kids like to have a 'cave' to sit in and play. This also can be used both inside and outdoors.

Musical toys are also a great and educational entertainment for babies and toddlers, you can find ideas for musical toys and links and images to the above ideas here:
http://www.best-baby-gifts.com/1st-birthday-gift.html - from there also follow the link at the bottom 'Even more 1st birthday gift ideas'.

Hope this helped. Good luck!

Where is the best place to camp in a tent when going to Disneyland?

Jami

My sister, her kids and I are driving from AZ to Anaheim to go to Disneyland but we don't have the money to stay in a hotel and we don't have an RV. Where is the best place to go tent camping in Anaheim/surrounding LA area?

Answer
Actual Tent Camping is going to really be limited to just a few State Beaches/Park. The closest is Crystal Cove in Newport Beach. The cost is still going to be in the $50/night price range which for just a few dollars more you can get a budget Motel closer to Disneyland.

If you do decide to camp here, they tend to book up 2-6 weeks in advance weeks in advance depending on when you are going. So it is best to book as soon as possible unless you want to hope for a cancellation.

I am new to tent camping and need help. How do you use an electrical hookup in a campground?

romancegir

I am going to camp in a Yogi Bear campground in a site that says "Water and Electrical Hookup". Does that mean I can use an extension cord with a strip on the end of it that has plugs in it?
I can find lots of info on tent camping on the internet, but nothing that explains electrical hookup. I'm a single mom. I hope I can find a veteran camper who can help me with my camping questions.

Answer
Typically, "Water and Electrical Hookups" are referring to convenient places an RV or trailer can plug in to for power and running water. Chances are, you should be able to plug an extension cord with a power strip for running some electrical items.

I say plan your trip as if the electrical won't be available, but bring a few things that will be helpful in case it is.

A few helpful camping tips:
If there's a firepit, bring a couple Duraflame logs. They last a couple hours, don't take any special gymnastics to ignite, and you can always throw regular wood on after the duraflame is burning. Remember to smother your campfire before you go to bed (Shovel dirt on it, etc).

Bring a stiff rake. Rake out the spot where you're putting your tent(s). This way, you don't end up rolling over onto a rock or acorn.

Please, please, PLEASE, clean up when you're gone. Have your kids walk all over your campsite and pick up every little bit of trash possible. (Also, bring trashbags! Not all campsites have convenient trash receptacles).

Check the temperature ranges in advance, and pack accordingly. It's a very long night when it's freezing cold and you didn't bring the winter sleeping bags. Remember that tents catch fire VERY easily, so don't put the tent next to the campfire, and don't bring electrical or gas heaters into the tent.

Bring fresh drinking water. (Those 2.5 gallon jugs with the convenient spigot are good...)

Bring a medical kit w/ all the usual refinements. Kids will always find a way to get boo-boo's.

I can almost guarantee that you will certainly overpack for your first trip. You'll find that over time you'll be able to whittle it down to the stuff you *really* need, as opposed to the stuff you think you'll need.

If you're with someone who is not a morning person, they will be much worse in the morning. Trust me.

Good luck!

Whats a good website to find volunteer jobs, similar to the peace corps ?

Rox-ann

I want to go to like south America, or third world countries and help people, or do something for a cause. The only thing I know of is the peace corps, but I know there are other options, I just dont know where to find them.

Answer
If you use YA's advanced search option for the words "Peace Corps" you'll get some sponsored links. Many will expect you (or your friends and neighbors) to bear some or all of the cost.

The Peace Corps gives you three months of training. You'll learn your host country's language, history, religion(s) and culture, plus get some vocational training. (I learned Malay, Iban and Hokkien, then practice taught for six weeks, under the supervision of a master teacher, for instance.) They provide dental and medical care, a living allowance and some after-service placement counsling. They pay for your air fare over and back. It would not be cost-effective to do all that for someone who stayed on the job for a couple of weeks.

If you want to pay your own way, provide your own medical / dental insurance and already speak the language, there are a number of organizations that will place you for as little as a week. Some people take two-week "working" vacations as volunteers and have a ball. Some don't even require you to speak the language. (Not a problem if you volunteer inside the USA).

Here are two alternatives:

http://www.vso.org.uk/
(Based in the UK, takes volunteers from anywhere, has a six-month "programme" for people 18 - 25) I knew VSO volunteers when I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in 1971. They are a solid, well-known organization. These folks are sometimes known as the "British Peace Corps". They give you a small, modest salary, pay for your housing and medical insurance, and pay for your air fare home. You work in one of 30 countries. The normal term of service is a year.

Student Conservation Association
http://www.thesca.org/
My daughter spent a summer with them. You pay for your food and air fare, they loan you a tent. You spend 4-6 weeks doing manual labor in a national park in the USA with a great bunch of other kids. They will take volunteers as young as 16. Your crew chief will be a young adult, and a ranger looks in on you every couple of days.

Here are some others have mentioned. I know nothing else about them:
http://www.globalvolunteers.org
http://www.earthwatch.org
http://www.unitedplanet.org
http://www.volunteerabroad.com

This is a long but comprehensive page about volunteering. It has a list of reputable organizations, but you should read the advice, too:

Are there any camping sites in England that allow alcohol consumption?

Ocean

Preferably in the north east of England ? Me and some friends want a cheap drinking holiday so we have been looking around and the campsites generally look like they are for people who are just relaxing.
We dont want to be disturbing other peoples fun so I was wondering if there was anywhere we could go

Answer
If you go onto a mixed site, with tents and caravans and some have chalets, you'll find that most of them have a bar, a restaurant, and fun things for the kids.
My bit top end fave is way up at the top of Scotland at Cape Wrath.
The campsite bar is the village pub becaause the other option is the community hall with a bar, a long mile up a steep hill away and the next one is on the road to Tongue...but....yeah, that's a nice pub. Brill... If you have a driver who isn't drinking.
That campsite bar can hold 400 and boy does it rock some nights......read the first few lines of the review

Happy camping.....you're safe at Sango. There's a fence round the top of the cliff.....

If people can't bear to leave the conveniences of home at home when they go camping, why don't they just save themselves a trip and pitch up tents in their back yards?

Answer
After years of tent camping, we bought a travel trailer. We still leave many of the luxuries (tv, video games, etc) at home. Our kids are old enough hike through the park on their own while my wife and I can relax. The A/C allows us to enjoy more, especially since we're in Texas. Both my wife and I have sustained inuries to our knees and getting up and down in a tent rather grueling.

How do I plan a fishing camping trip in Canada?

large outdoor camping tents on family camping tent double layer outdoor large family camping tent

sassylassy

My boyfriend and I would like to, sometime this summer, go to Nova Scotia, and go one a fly fishing trip. I am not a fisher myself, but love the outdoors and I have always wanted to go camping, tent and everything! I need some advice on how to go about planning. Can you rent tents? How do you find a place to camp near lakes, rivers, etc.

Answer
OK, i will try to help you out here-i have fished in Alaska and Canada for trout and salmon for the past 35 years, going about once every two years, providing i have the cash.

Its one of the best areas to fly fish, and providing your boyfriend has fly fishing knowledge you should be OK. I must stress one thing though, HIRE A GUIDE-if its the only thing you do, it will mean your trip isn't wasted and you should catch something, plus they can alert you of the dangers of being in the wilds also they can give you advice of where to go.

If you can go with a proper company that deals with fishing trips in Canada, i use a few but its mainly for lodges with guides included-expect to pay around $4000 per person for this.

Some other advice is make sure you are confident in your outdoor skills, if you do wish to camp alone- a lot CAN go WRONG so be prepared.

Also make sure your equipment is up to the task- quality fly gear is essential and so is the skill in using it, being bale to CAST is VITAL as it saves a lot of wasted time.

Ensure you camping equipment is also suitable, you need to consider how far away you want to be from civilization-the further away the more dangers it presents -but often gives a once in a lifetime vacation.

Travel-how will you get there, often when i go to Alaska-depending on where i stay, the final journeny needs to be through float plane since its hard to get to the remote lodges, that hold the large salmon and trout.

LOOK through this site, it gives you a lot of great information-i would honestly suggest going for a lodge to start with, you will experience better fishing and everything will be planned for you, yet its still remote and relaxing

What types of things should I bring for a camping trip for about a week?

Hannah

My friend and I are going on a kind of trip/adventure and I'm not sure what we should bring with us. We are going to be spending 3-5 days in the woods walking for a long period of time and camping out in the woods so we didn't really want to travel heavily since we will be moving around a lot. I know we will need things like water, food, etc but just in case I wanted to know what else we should DEFINITELY bring with us. Things we will definitely need to have once we are out there. Things like extra clothes, things for sleeping arrangements, etc. I just don't want to forget anything important.

Answer
You should have lightweight backpacking equipment if you are going to be moving alot.
Some things to bring-
-Cooking stove
-Water filtration system (especially usefull for longer trips)
-synthetic all in one mess kit
-tent
-sleeping bag
-sleeping mat (a must)
-tarp or large rain fly
-lightweight food such as pasta or dehydrated stews that can be packed in a canister for several meals.
-compas
- topo map
- knive, silverware
-rope
-flash light or mini lantern

Just go to gander mountain or any outdoor store and talk to somewone about useful products, and remember when things are convenient its easier to have fun, and without fun there is no point in even going.

what can i do for a tinkerbell birthday..?

kids tents teepee image

marivelC

I need to have a tinkerbell theam birthday for a 6 year old in aug 29 any ideas

Answer
Wow-what a lovely idea!

INVITES:

For the girls, print your Tinkerbell party invitations on sheets of vellum paper. Then attach each invitation to a cardstock with a ribbon.
Tinkerbell The invitations can say "Fairies, fairies, did you hear? (Your child's name) Tinkerbell birthday party is coming near." Include date, time, and address. You can end the invitations with "Wear your fairy best and we'll see you fairy soon."
Decorations

For the outside Tinkerbell party decorations, start with a big sign stretched on the fence or between trees. It can say "Gateway to Neverland, Second Star to the Right!", and hang a large star over the sign.

Create Mermaid Lagoon on one side of the yard. There you can have long crepe paper streamers in shades of blue and lots of tropical-fish cutouts (hanging from trees). Have balloons "floating around" in shades of pale blue and clear to simulate water bubbles. Place a kiddie pool filled with ice as a beverage cooler.

Create Pirate's Cove on the other side of the yard. (Do this only if you have boys attending the party.) Make a cave out of brown packing paper and black streamers that the kids could run through. Mount a poster of Peter Pan fighting Hook.

Cut a refrigerator box into the shape of a ship, and put it around the pole or support beam. Then tie a sail and pirate flag to the pole with a rope. Put up a tent and name it "Lost Boys Hideout."

You can make each room of your house a different part of Neverland. For example the entry can be Hangman's Tree: hang a rope noose from a coat stand with some dangling skeletons. The Living room is Skull Rock with toy pirates and boats.

The dining room becomes an Indian Camp complete with pictures/drawings of teepees and Indians taped to the wall. Make stairs your Crocodile Creek - with toy crocodiles peeking up from between the steps and railings.

Tape 'glow-in-the-dark' stars onto the ceiling. Hang ribbon halos and wands all over the Tinkerbell birthday party area to give it a festive air. Scatter plastic butterflies around the room. Mount Tinkerbell posters on the walls.

Cover your Tinkerbell birthday party table with a theme cloth. Sprinkle shiny confetti on the table for "pixie dust." Tie colorful balloons to chairs. Hang a personalized "Happy Birthday" banner nearby.

Guest Arrival and Introductory Activities

As your Tinkerbell birthday party guests arrive, provide the girls with fairy wings and wand, and the boys - with pirate bandanas and eye patches.

*Guess How Many: Fill a jar with jellybeans, and have the kids guess how many candies are in the jar. Give the jellybeans to a child who can guess the closest to the amount, and give the leftovers to other players.

*Candy Necklaces: Fill several bowls with doughnut-shaped candy and cereal. Provide the Tinkerbell birthday party guests with necklace strings and let them create their own edible necklaces.

*Tinker Bell Door Hanger Activity: You can get a Door Hanger Activity kit from a party store. Have the kids decorate their door hangers with coloring pens.

Favors

For your Tinkerbell party favors, hand out such items as wands, feather rings, Tinkerbell blowouts, sticker sheets, pirate eye patches, golden coins, and so on.

Tinkerbell Birthday Party Games

*Sifting for Gems: Before the Tinkerbell birthday party, fill a shoebox with sand or white cornmeal, and hide plastic rhinestones in the box. At game time, pass the shoebox around so each child gets a couple of gems by sticking a hand in the sand and letting it sift through her fingers to reveal a rhinestone.

*I believe in Fairies: Pick one person to be Tinker Bell, and give her a magic wand. The rest of the kids should run off. When Tinker Bell tags players with a wand, they must go to a designated area, clap their hands continuously and say "I believe in fairies" 10 times before they're free again.

The round stops at the end of a prearranged time limit. Then another child gets to be Tink. Give prizes to Tinker Bell who catches the most players.

*Pass the Fairy Wand: Tell the children to sit in a circle. Explain that when the music starts they must pass the wand as quickly as possible. When the music stops, the child holding the wand is out of the game. Let that child keep the wand. Hand out another wand and turn the music back on to continue the game.

The game ends when everyone is out, and everyone has a wand. (Hint: have a few crowns for boys if they don't want the wands.)

*Fairy Detective: For this Tinkerbell birthday party game, you'll need pillows and a small ball or marble.

Children take turns sitting on four pillows arranged in a row on the floor. While sitting on the pillows, each player must guess which one the pea (a small ball) is under. Move the ball after each turn while the contestant is out of the room, or looking away.

Good Luck

Mommies! I need your help with the shoestring song!?

Bright B

What are the lyrics or how does the song go that guides little kiddies in tying their shoes? My 3 year old wants to learn and I think the song would be a great way. All I can remember is over something, through something, something about a rabbit?!??!?!? Help me!

Answer
Let me begin by saying I am someone who does work in a childcare setting. I am going to share with you some of my resources and I do hope it helps you with this frustrating skill. I know when it came to teaching my son I got very frustrated with it, but I finally have a friend help him learn. The reason she could help him was they were both left handed so he kept trying to do things different than I did it.
Introduction
Many children get frustrated when trying to learn how to tie shoelaces. While there's no miraculous solution other than patience and lots of practice, there are ways that you can help your child acquire this useful skill.
Instructions
Difficulty: Challenging
Steps
1
Step One
Wait until your child is ready. Most children develop the dexterity needed to tie shoelaces between the ages of 4 and 6. Girls are often ready to learn slightly earlier than boys.
2
Step Two
Make sure your child knows right from left before you try to teach him how to tie his shoes.
3
Step Three
Choose one method of lace tying, and teach it consistently. Make sure that everyone who may be trying to help your child learn this skill is offering the same method. Otherwise, he may get confused.
4
Step Four
Make up a game or poem to help your child remember the necessary steps.
Criss Cross Tying Shoes
(tune: Splish Splash I was taking a Bath)
Criss Cross and go under the bridge
Then you got to pull it tight.
Make a loop but keep a long tail
That is how to do it right
Then you take the other string
and you wrap it 'round the loop
Pull it through the hole
Now you got the scoop
Criss Cross and go under the bridge (this is where you tie the loops together)
Now you made a Double Knot!
Sad Rabbit
Once there was a rabbit that was very sad because his ears were so long and narrow that he stepped on them all the time. One day a fairy landed on the bunny's head. She lifted up the bunny's ears and crossed them over like an x. Then she put one ear through the bottom of the x and pulled.
Next, she made each long ear into a loop and made another x like before. She put an ear under that x and pulled again. From then on the bunny remembered how to tie his ears into a bow, and he lived happily every after.
Teepee Tying Story
A Native American made a teepee (pull lace up and cross one under the other) and it collapsed! (pull first "knot" down). So he started another, (make first loop for bow) and he took this string and went around it, (wrap other lace around loop) and went inside, (push lace under new loop) and there he had it! Two Tents! (pull loops for bow) .
This story is great for a group activity where the children can help one another follow the story, and if you make pictures to go with the story the kids can follow the steps by themselves! The story also helps to limit the child's frustration with learning to tie because they are helping the Native American to build a teepee and if they fail it is the Native American who needs more help!
A Story For Tying Shoes
My Shoelace Blues I've tried and tried to tie you, shoe. I've never done it yet. A loop that flip-flops on the floor Is as close as I can get. I've practiced on spaghetti. I've practiced on the mop. I've practiced on my sister until she made me stop. So here's the loop again, shoe. I'll hold it with my thumb. I'll wrap the other end around... And yank it into bows. It's done
Gold Shoes
Paint an old pair of sneakers with gold spray paint and lace with bright colored laces. All the children will want to practice tying their shoes.

5
Step Five
Make sure that you and your child are side by side rather than opposite each other when you demonstrate. That way he'll be able to copy your movements rather than mirror them.
6
Step Six
Give your child lots of praise when he gets it right

How can I design a camping themed room for my 10 year old?

kids tents with lights on The Grandma Chronicles: An Old Fashioned Backyard Birthday Party for ...
kids tents with lights image
Q. My son loves the outdoors. He wants his room to be a camping theme. In other words, he wants a tent to sleep in, things with boats, fishing, etc. I would love for him to have a tent to sleep in, but I also want to put his mattress in the tent so he won't have to sleep on the floor!! Is this doable? How big of a tent would I have to get? Can you even put a tent up in your house without having to stake it down?
Any ideas would be great!
Thanks!

Answer
there are many toy tents available these days for kids in the market made of parachute material that are long lasting and i guess they are big enough to accomodate a mattress, if not, even if the mattress peaks out a little, it is no problem, you can rope in the tent higher and it will give a spread over effect, these tents are meant for small children only and can be placed in the rooms!

along with it, you can go to a supermarket and check out the fishing section, there you will find wooden boats decorated in corners, you can buy one of these and place it in one corner of the room, it will give the out door effect, you can also get a artifical tree to place in one corner of the room, it will all enhance the outdoor effect, apart from that, try to paint the room in light green and light brown combination or even sky blue color to foster the image of being outdoors

see http://www.aboutfurniture.org/kids_room.php for more ideas on designing kids bedrooms

What are some activities you do when babysitting?

Zoey

I babysit alot the activities can be for any age of children. I'm just looking for a really long list of activities that are kind of time consuming and a lot of fun, for both me and the kids thanks!

Answer
-Make play dough! http://www.busybeekidscrafts.com/Salt-Dough-Recipe.html
You can even take a small food storage container (of yours) to have the kids decorate with stickers, etc. that will hold their play dough it.

-Decorate a pillow case/T-shirt/etc..
Bring your accessory that you are going to color on. Take some permanent markers for them to use, but make sure they don't write on anything else- include themselves.

-Go outside!
Play with chalk.
Blow bubbles. (you can even make them)
Take a walk/bike ride
Visit a park
Have a picnic
Bring some water guns
Do a scavenger hunt: Have them find a pink flower, a blue car, etc.

-Have a dance party!
Put some songs like: The Macerana, the twist, chicken dance, hokey pokey, electric slide, etc. on a CD or a playlist on your ipod. Turn off the lights, expect for some dimmed ones or a lamp. Try to get a diso ball. (glow sticks if the kids are above the age of 7) Freeze dance for the little ones!

-Play games!
Hide and seek
Twister
Go fish
Slap Jack
Candy Land
Bowling (use soup cans as pins, and a ball)

-For girls: Do a pedicure!
Take a large bowl, if you have one and put a towel under it. Fill it up with warm water and bubbles/soap. Let her sit on the coach with her feet in the bowl. Massage her feet, then paint her toes.

-Frost cookies!
Make the cookies at your house and take them with to avoid using their stove! Bring along some frosting and sprinkles. Have them decorate their own. Rice krispies also work but are quite messy!

-ColoIring
You can take big poster boards and stamps, stickers, markers... Or you can print off coloring sheets, and have them make their own coloring book. Drawing contests for older kids are always fun!

-Build a "tent!"
Very fun in my opinion. Put chairs in a circle, and lay a big blanket on top! Crawl in and enjoy.
I love going "camping" with this idea. Set up the tent, roast marshmallows in the microwave, do a scavenger hunt, etc.

- Balloon games..
This is only good for kids older than about 5... The little ones can choke on broken balloon pieces. Play "keep it in the air" or do the game with the balloon tied to your ankle. Make sure to clean up!

-Limbo...

-Movie "theater"
Bring 4-5 movies for them to pick from, make tickets, have a concession stand.
A fun idea with this topic is if you can bring some large cardboard boxes to make fake cars out of and have a pretend drive in movie.

Just be creative!!

How can I design a camping themed room for my 10 year old?

How to be a real motorcycle rider?

kids tent do it yourself on Do It Yourself Pins
kids tent do it yourself image

Seven

Do you remember the first time that you ride on the back of a motorcycle? Do you feel good about yourself on the backseat and still remember feeling of freedom and independence that coursed through you as you move on the road. Maybe it happened when you riding in the back of your parentâs car as a kid, and you saw a motorcycle rider past you on the two-lane highway. For some people, the desire to ride is fueled by simply seeing a motorcycle race, and even just talking to those who have ridden before. However you got your start, it does not matter. You know that you were bitten by the motorcycle bug, and there is no cure.

Chances are if you love to ride, these feelings are more than just a memory to you; they are a part of your soul, coursing through your blood at any given waking moment in your life. In a very real sense, the low hum of the idling chopper or the purr of the engine when it first wakes up is something you hear in your sleep. It is something that really canât be explained or described to someone without having them join you on the back of your bike and going for a ride around town. Many around you would call it an obsession, but you know better. You simply love to ride, and everything that goes along with it.
The feeling you get when you and the motorcycle are roaring down the highway is nothing you can describe or let go. The second step to feel you are a real biker is to find some biker friends and ride with them together. Many single biker women or biker guys always join some local motorcycle clubs or biker gangs. They like motorcycle rally and biker event, since they can enjoy a group riding. If you want to be a real motorcycle rider, you should try you best to join them who are real biker too.

What a silly question. So will answer it in kind and from a racing perspective since you have posted in the racing section.

I remember the first time one of my kids didn't appear where they should have on a track racing, then looking up and seeing the first aid flag flying. I remember the feeling of seeing the first aid people running towards that part of the track. I remember months of nursing teenagers with two broken arms and split livers, busted collarbones and stitches from slamming into the bars. I remember hoping a plane in a hurry when told one child had dislocated his leg and was in big trouble and then the months in hospital recovering.

I remember going without things so that a new exhaust system could be bought and finding a motorbike in my living room. The house overrun with trophies that need dusting constantly. I remember the night before race day finding hubby and son in the lounge room changing tyres and making a god awful mess doing it and then the mountains of mud encrusted gear to wash after said weekend.

Now older I remember standing at the side of the track watching half hour motos stomach in my throat as my grown child flies by and then with one lap to go and doing well stacks in a flurry of flying soil. Then waiting hand on heart when he didn't get up for over a minute. I remember standing at the medical tent wondering if he was okay and then watching as although injured he needed to go back out and do it all again as he was in the points.

I remember the medical bills and worrying that my child will have to race again in two weeks time knowing he is injured so not fully up to it but he doesn't want to let the team down.

So you are right it is a bug that riders get and cannot give up but it is not all that for many of those around said rider. Would I change things. No as I know just what this bug means to riders but every action has a reaction.

How do you thin birth-order has affected your personality / life?

With my kids, I see a huge differences in responsibility & maturity between the first and last pregnancies. And it's not just the age difference because I can remember the eldest child at the age that my younger two (twins) are now... there is a difference. The younger children are much more carefree and far less responsible. But I think that the younger children are more social than the older.

Did you notice a difference in yourself or your children in regards to whether they were born first, last, or middle?

Answer
I don't really like the idea - it seems almost like predetermination! But I can see how it might work, parental time and parental expectations being spread differently upon the children, depending on their birth order.

Among my sisters and I can't see much difference except that I (the eldest) am rather bossy and used to being obeyed.

With my children, my oldest is more serious-minded and introverted than the youngest (who is a total social butterfly). But I don't know how much of that is birth order and the subsequent upbringing, and how much is due to genetic hereditary. The oldest is very much like I was as a child, while the youngest is rather frighteningly like my father-in-law, another social butterfly (and the only child).

I watched an episode of a BBC child development series ('Child of Our Time', highly recommended) in which a psychologist watched a group of adults put up a tent as a team. She then guessed birth order and even sibling sex of the participants. Though 'guessed' is not at all the right word as she was accurate in about 7 out of 10. And she was right about the ones who had only sisters or only brothers too!

So I guess it does influence us, among the other influences in our upbringing.

What can I use to put temporary footprints on a school floor?

kids tent house price on .com : Buy Folding Outdoor Indoor Kids Children Girls Play Tent House ...

The elementary school book fair theme this fall is "Safari"...so we'd like to put elephant foot prints on the hall floors leading the kids to the room where the book fair is set up. It would be nice if the prints could last at least 2 weeks or more....but are also easily removed (or the custodians will kill me!)

Answer
I have temporary footprints all over my house... I just forget to take my shoes off after I went through mud.
They can last up to two weeks or more it really just depends on when I break out the vaccuum cleaner.

In your case its a little difficult because your going to need to get an elephant and then make him run through mud before you let him into the building but it could be fun for the kids if you do it during the day on your lunch break.
I mean think about how fun it would be if you were a kid and you saw an elephant walk by the classroom and then after class you run out to the hall to see whats going on. Plus if you get it done fast you could be like "Theres no elephant here...." and they might hook you up on a price.. maybe like an hourly rate. I'm not sure where to rent an Elephant but I would start calling the same place you rent tents, chairs and moonwalks from because those people rent EVERYTHING.

oh yeah if your still reading this. Go to autozone and pick up some of that window paint you write on cars with.
Sometimes it can be hard to clean up but it will last a long time. I would try a baby elephant footprint first in a corner that nobody cares about and leave it for a few days then try cleaning it up to make sure it comes up and doesnt stain the tile.

No price limit I just want them to be fun and for her to enjoy them. Shes a very happy baby and loves noises, lights, the water, everything really..Shes kinda girly too =) Please include links if possible. Thanks so much!!

Answer
I would just take a look at amazon.com and browse through the other toys they have listed. There are TONS of great toys out there for one year olds. Here are some other suggestions, as well as a link to get you started.

http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-77865-musical-Tea-Set/dp/B00005ATWC/ref=pd_sim_t_6

look at the "Customers who bought this also bought:" list.

- A toy baby or doll that the child can start to interact with in pretend play.
- Tea set
- Dollhouse
- Wooden or plastic kids size table and chairs
- A bike or ride on wagon is great fun for this age
- Good quality paint, brushes and large art paper
- A small tent and tunnel can be used inside or outside
- Toy farm house with animals and a tractor is good for learning different animals and the noises they make
- Mega blocks - it will be a while until the toddler is building robots and buildings out of blocks but she will love destroying what ever mom or dad creates and will eventually start to put 2 blocks together
- Dress up box - this box can be added to at each birthday. At age one having a few crazy hats, scarves and fake glasses can be fun.
- Music is an excellent gift for this age group, the toddler will soon be doing actions to songs, dancing and even singing along to familiar tunes
- Books are a great gift at any age
