Winobot Du

I have decided to put together a bug out bag for a SHTF situation, and figured it would be a good idea to see what other people have so i dont forget something that would be useful. I have two US surplus day packs i will probably fill up. What do you have in yours and what is the bag?

Answer
I use many duffel bags that i got for free, and one wooden ammo case that I refinished. I also have a few unmarked cardboard boxes.
my BOB is something I stick into the minivan and get out of town asap. I have no plans to hike out of town, I live in the middle of a large city.

12 MREs handpicked, all my favorite menus
32 bottles of water- Kirkland 16.9 FL oz each
various meal bars from the supermarket
tablets for purifying water
funny purple tablets for cooking with (military surplus), I bought lots and lots.
mountain house dehydrated foods, 36 units, favorites only
water filter
2x collapsible 2L water bags
2x military OD green plastic canteens
titanium knife-fork-spoon utensil
as many matchbooks as I can cram into a 1 gallon zip lock bag
several cheap Bic lighters
metal camping cooking pot + lid
collapsible cooking rack that I made from aluminum

$200 in cash, $10s and $20s
one roll silver quarters (face value = $10, worth $130)
1 carton Grand Prix menthol cigarettes - for trade, sale, or personal use.
1 bag rolling tobacco, lots of paper slips for rolling. - for sale, trade, or personal use

a 3.2 million volt stun gun and LED flashlight
AK bayonet, Yugo style
mini crowbar, 18"
a FAK (I call it a field aid kit) I'm still adding stuff to it

3x15 min road flares
2x30 min road flares
3x coast guard approved signal flares
Camping Gaz piezoelectric 80W blue butane lamp
2x blue butane bottles (for the lamp)
1 wooden ammo case that holds lots and lots of glow sticks, and anything else fragile. its has tons of padding, it was designed to take a 33 foot fall without any glow sticks breaking. 33feet is because that's the highest I test the case falling. I threw it off the roof to the cold, hard concrete driveway below. I think its 33 feet, I'm really bad at math.
1 5x night vision monocular, waterproof
20 CR123 batteries
1x LED Lenser P7 flashlight,
3x AAA battery packs
1x trusty old Ti83 calculator sealed in plastic (to make water proof)
1- 4 man Coleman tent
2 sleeping bags (in case I bring someone with me)

all local area maps
spare battery pack (external, 12V) for GPS with hand crank charger (something I rigged up)
12 BLM maps covering everything within 150 miles of my house
1 really obsolete 1978 detailed street map book of LA and Orange county - something my parents uses, i have it in case the gps breaks. I am not buying a new one, even if they're still in print.
1 book detailing wilderness survival
1 book detailing auto repair and troubleshooting
1 clear plastic ruler
1 book detailing medial aid
4 compasses- in case one broke.

for defensive purposes, my vehicle may be attacked, ambushed, or mobbed depending on the situation, I must be prepared for that.
a simple cardboard box holds 10x 30rd AK magazines, 12 clips of russian light ball for my mosin nagant, 5 clips of Czech AP for my mosin nagant, 35- 20 ga #3 buck, 50- 20 ga 3/4 oz slugs, orange and grey smoke emitters, two bricks of .22lr, various fireworks or firecrackers I believe may be used, and two machetes- one cheap walmart one for chopping and one expensive Ontario knife one for sawing. that would be put up front next to me between my passenger.
the few cardboard boxes part of my BOB holds even more ammo. 960 rounds of 7.62x39mm, 370 rounds 7.62x54mmr, 3660 rounds .22lr, 182 #7.5 birdshot, and many, many, many "firecrackers".

the BOB is to get out of the city into the forests and be able to live out there for at least 2 months with occasional ventures into the city for more supplies and such.

Is DayZ (Arma 2) worth getting if none of my friends have it?

Is it still fun to play alone? Or should I get a different game (Such as Assassin's Creed Revelations)?

Answer
ill put it to you like this, its entirely playable solo. but there are 3 huge playstyle changes, plus advantages and disadvantages depending on your group size. solo you want to stick to smaller towns, the woods, go to deer stands and use lakes and animals to eat and drink. on top of you playing solo your going to have a rough start, learning agro, when to shoot, how to scout, and how to watch your own back, a group of 2-3 is optimal, like i think the best example ive seen is xcal, drj, and dannyboy i think the name of the video was outplayed by server reset, dannyboy scouted, drj sniped, and xcal had a fully auto and did zombie control and actually saved drj from getting hatcheted by a bandit. large groups where they seem good its outweighed by its disadvantages, 1st 4 to 5 or more players unless you all know each other in real life equals feeling alone and paranoid due to lack of trust, easier to aggro infected and harder to get rid of them, and the worst scavenging towns and just traveling becomes a bit** due to how easy it is to spot your group, i mean its fun solo until you get good gear, then fear and paranoia start to set in, because it can take like 4 or 5 hours to get good gear and 20 minutes to lose it. if you do decide to get it, your focus every spawn should go in this order, you usually spawn with bandages 2 i think, more is always better so keep a look out for them but theyre not a necessity, priority 1 is a hatchet cus you aint ish you you cant at least protect yourself, step 2 is either a hunting knife or a canteen whichever youre closer to running out of, nothing like starvation or dehydration and your screen going gray to make a difficult game more difficult, then you should go for blood packs and bandages, because going for weapons getting them and bleeding out is frustrating, go for morphine while youre at it as well, nothing like broken limbs and having to crawl to piss you off, but beware hospitals are the easiest place to find meds, so bandits and large groups camp them, now go for a compass/map, it takes a hour to 4-5 hours to get from certain towns to another, dont want to get lost, now if youre all set up last 2 things on your list are weapons and a tent, tents can store the stuff you dont want to lose on death, yet act like a dead body so anyone can loot them, put on a flat surface in a place people will over look, and weapons solo is hard to say, i would recommend going sniper because you want to avoid close encounter situation in the 1st place, but you need either a pistol or a hatchet to handle close range and zombies. never go after large groups, you may kill 1 or 2 before u aggro zombies and have to deal with them making you a easy target. btw if youre considering getting it because its on sale look through steam, and download the gamestop app, theres things like the da origins ultimate edition for $8 etc, just saying dont set your heart out on this game, and most definitely since your asking this question im going to give you some more advice, look up solo playing vids and see if it still looks, 2 or 3 people playing makes it look awesome but solo takes alot of patience and desperate trust, because if you get hurt, youre going to eventually need someone to do a blood transfusion and you cant do that solo. btw theres also survivor and bandit message boards to help you get in a group, but be forewarned theres a lot of trolls up there, they may not kill you immediately, but i wouldnt let them know right off if you get good loot, cuz they may take the opportunity to get a easy sniper rifle, shit when i started playing id kill for a pistol

what to bring on a camping trip?

large family camping tent reviews image

Daniel

I am a police explorer and we are having a camping trip (4 days 3 nights). They are bringing the food and shelter, I have never gone camping before so i know very little of what to bring.
Oh I live in Arizona and there is going to be showers in walking distance.
1 more thing we are allowed to bring knifes and all that good stuff!

Answer
You have to ask, WHERE are you camping. Near a beach, deep in the forest trail, mountain, well managed accessible park?

WHAT are you doing? Is it a family event with children? Just adults but relaxed, or "real" camping?

CONDITIONS: Will you have water and electricity? Shower and toilet facilities? Check weather forecast.

Go to the state park website whichever state you are camping and read the reviews and research the details.

But for generalization: cover the essentials.
1. Lighting - Gas/propane/battery lantern, LED headlamps.
2. Sleeping pad/bag and pillow - $5 foam at wal-mart or self inflating pad for about $20-25. or an airbed for about $80. You need to protect your spine if you are not used to sleeping on the ground.
3. First Aid kit, insect repellent, sun screen, citronella candles.
4. Tools - knife, ax, mallet/hammer, small shovel, matches/lighter, multi-tool.
5. Shelter - Ropes, Nylon, bungees. Tarps - In case it rains, most tents are not water proof.
6. Clothing - Minimal essential clothing, they take up space quickly, but don't run out. Or just keep them in the car.
7. Water - Plenty of drinking water, you might have to run to a store after 2 days. More if you plan to do physical activities like sports. And get some Ice while you're at the store. Extra Ice is always good.
8. Coolers - Keep raw meats cold and separate from ready to eat food.
9. Cooking - Propane stoves or coal and fire wood. utensils. Don't forget the propane.
10. Hygiene - Your personal kit, Dish soap/sponges, trash bags.
11. Cash - You never know.
12. Toys - whatever constitute to you as a toy. Board games, cards, musical instruments, boom box, bike, hammock.

I gave you a list not of items but conditions and what to fill them with.
Basically, whatever you do inside, you're just doing it outside.
Coordinate with others and try to help each other.
Camping is about functioning as a community.

If food and cooking are covered, it should even be easier.
You will end up with:
1 large camping backpack - Basic essentials
1 medium cooler - Food/water
1 handheld lamp.

Be safe and Have Fun!

info on water tubing on the green river cove in suluda nc?

Debra

Answer
From the review on the link below..
"I LOVED camping and tubing here. Just got back from Green River Cove after spending the weekend camping on one of their sites and tubing in the Green River. We had a blast!

We tubed (and a couple of my friends kayaked) on the lower portion of the river. It was calm, but moved along very nicely with a few class 2 rapids. There were plenty of people tubing and kayaking, both adults and children. We didn't go down the entire Lower, but began a couple of miles upstream from Green River Cove and then took our tubes/boats out at the tubing building. This was wonderful! The water was a little chilly but very refreshing. The Tube Rental was only a few yards from our campsite, which was really nice. The campgrounds were clean and the property manager was extremely welcoming and friendly, and could be seen riding around on his golf cart checking up on everyone and maintaining the campgrounds. There was a building for bathrooms (men's and women's) with 2 stalls and 2 showers. These are open to the campers as well as anyone who is visiting the tube rental. We tubed for about an hour, but there were 2 more hours left of tubing on this portion of the river for anyone who wanted to do so.

We also drove to the Upper part of the river and hiked around. There were several trails, but we took the one to the Gorilla waterfall because the kayakers in the group wanted to check it out. This trail was BRUTAL! But beautiful and fun. It took us about 3 hours to hike the whole thing. The last 30 minutes or so were spent actually climbing down the side of the mountain since the trail got so steep! You may want to hit Inner Peaks or another rock climbing facility before doing this. Going down is a little tricky, but going back up is a helluva workout!!!! Take a large water bottle and wear good shoes!!! There were lots of pretty wildflowers along the way and wild blackberries and raspberries were growing along the trail too! I ate one that looked ripe and it was delicious!

The upper part of the river is only for kayakers, with Class 3 and 4 rapids. The kayakers in our group went on this part of the river this morning and loved it -- but if you've never been, it's good to have a guide (you can find one on the camp grounds). The guide that took them out this morning takes kayakers out every Sunday morning and is really knowledgeable of the river. This is important, because if you don't take out of the river at the right point, you can wind up in the Narrows, which are class 5 rapids (the Gorilla is included in this). These are only for experienced kayakers, as some people have died on them! We saw one guy kayaking them yesterday and it was pretty inspiring. The rocks along this part of the river are great for climbing, which we did a lot of! My camera battery died by this point and it's really too bad, because this part of the river is very picturesque and would have made for some great shots.

Our campsite was pretty secluded, and surrounded by trees, which was nice. We were able to fit 4 tents in it, and had room to set out camping chairs around the fire pit beside the picnic table. We noticed some of the campsites were a little more out in the open though, so depending on your preference it could be a gamble. Saturday night was much more crowded than Friday, so if you are picky then you may want to get there on Friday.

I was with a group of adults, all late twenties to early thirties, and we noticed a group of 4 around our age that appeared to be two couples, but we saw several families there too. Quiet hours begin at 10, so if your group is full of night owls, you may want to keep that in mind.

All in all, this was an extremely fun trip and I can't wait to go back!!!"

Hope you have a great time..

How to clean a camping tent that smells like mildew?

large multi-room camping tents on ... Swing 2011 | Pretoria | Camping | Junk Mail Classifieds | 17259736

Stella

I haven't used my camping tent for quite a long time and it now smells like mildew. How to get rid of this bad awful smell?

Answer
First, you need get a tote and fill it with clean water then add pine-sol in it. After that, you can place the tent, rain fly, tent poles, tent bag, stakes and stake bag in to the water, and leave them soak in the pine-sol solution for an hour or so. One hour is enough for the camping tent to absorb the aroma of the pine-sol solution, and then you will get a fresh smelling tent.

After the tent has soaked in the pine-sol solution for one hour, now you should take it out of the access water and reassemble the tent in your yard. Use water hose to pray the tent off and you should pay particular attention to the fabric on the bottom. Be sure it is thoroughly rinsed.

The last step is to dry the camping tent. You should let the tent air dry both inside and outside. Itâs important to wait until the tent and all the contents are fully dry before you pack it back up. Otherwise, the mildew will return. If you have a large family tent or multi-room tent, then you should wait patiently. If the weather is not good and you cannot dry the tent outside, you should place the tent in your garage or even inside your home or basement to let it dry. One thing you need to keep in mind is never dry your camping tent in a dryer because this could reduce the lifetime of the tent.

When looking for a new tent, is there anything I should consider? What brands should I stay away from?

Kerri P

I have heard recommendations to purchase 2 tents. However, I am a single mom and we all need to be in one tent. I currently have a smaller 6 man tent and it is not big enough for myself, 4 children and our gear. The youngest is 1 and he requires more than usual. The tent will get quite a bit of use but only during the late spring and summer. A multi room tent is fine as long as the inner dividers are removable. In a perfect outdoor world I would love a tent with a full rain cover as well as storage vestibules (though these are not a must). I prefer to use an air matress as I need my sleep to manage four young ones on a camping trip :) Again, this is not a must. I would greatly appreciate any guidance as I know I will be spending over 200 and I can not afford for the tent not to last. Thank you!

Answer
With the possible of exception of Cabella's, stay away from store brand private label tents!! They are not made to the same specifications and quality control standards as name brand tents.

Columbia, Eureka, Coleman, Kelty, Marmot, The North Face etc are all good quality tents, some being better than others but also more costly.

You only mention the age of your youngest child but I would suggest that for 1 adult and 5 growing children, you get a tent rated for no less than 8 people. Larger is even better. When the manufacturers optimistically rate a tent, their rating leaves on room for additional gear or storage unless the tent does have a vestibule or two.

If you are not in a hurry to make this purchase, wait until the week right before Memorial Day to purchase a new tent. That is the when traditionally the chain stores run their largest camping ads to kick off the "camping season". (I know, I know.............people camp all year long!! )

It started like it always did in the stories, a disease that wiped out the majority of the nation and people taking control of government for the wrong reasons. What was America was completely different. I looked around the hot living room, nothing special, a stack of books here, a clock there and the dirty sofa I was sprawled across. The house wasn't ours. That was obvious by the pictures of a doting couple scattered across the walls, they were probably dead. I picked up a wedding picture; 'Frank and Anna Fiddler forever' was scrawled around it in pretty cursive. Where was your forever now? I thought setting it aside.
âTrider? Where are you?â My father called from the hall.
âIn here, Dad.â
He stepped in and leaned against the doorframe. He was a tall man with a narrowâbut strongâframe and short, dark hair. âWe need to go, a refugee was spotted in deadwig. Teenage male. Tall. Skinny.â Refugees were people hiding from the cruel government.
âMale?â
âYeah, different. Usually the refugees are women.â He reached for the gun sitting on the table and strapped it on his belt before throwing me the other gun. âLetâs go.â
I slid into the passenger seat and propped my booted feet on the dashboard earning a look from my father. âSorry,â I muttered and crossed them instead.
âIs that our campsite?â My father asked as he squinted his eyes to see the little navy blue tent.
âYes.â
My father parked the jeep in front of the camp and began talking to Johnny, a thick, tall man while Johnnyâs brother Kent argued with Georgia. I couldnât help but notice that her face was turning as red as her hair. I tell what the argument was about, something to do with the radio in their car. A mosquito buzzed in my ear and I swatted at it before entering the tent. It was November, there be any , but after the Disease everything became hotter. The tent was dark and I could make out two figures, Rosie and David. David was the strawberry-blond, blue-eyed son of Johnny. Rosie was a six-year-old refugee we had found three months ago. She never spoke, and never trusted us.
âAny progress?â I asked without much concern.
âNo,â he leaned against a pole supporting the tent and crossed his arms tightly. His hair had gotten long enough to curl on the ends.
I peeked out of the tent to see Georgia give up the argument and storm back to her truck. She got in and slammed the door loudly while Kent smirked in amusement.
âDavid! Trider!â Johnny called.
âCâmon,â I muttered to David. Kent passed us and slipped quietly into the tent, he must be watching Rosie. I hopped into the passenger seat and David in the back. My father shoved the key in the ignition slammed on the gas. Instead of riding with his father, he chose to ride with us. His father and Georgia usually tracked the refugee, David found that boring.
There was static and then the Georgiaâs voice came through the radio. âHello? Can you hear me, Steven?â She asked my father.
âYes, we can hear you. Have you spotted him yet?â
âSteven, we just left the campsite. How could we have spotted him?â
âJust wanting to know . . .â He trailed off and swerved to avoid hitting a boulder.
âWait! Maybe! I seeâoh, never mind. That was a deer.â
âWe canât just drive around all day looking for some kid whoâs probably already fried his brain from the sun,â David said from the backseat after almost an hour had passed.
âWeâve got the time.â
âDo we?â David snapped at my father. âI thought Iâd have a nice life and look where I am.â
âSurrounded by people who love you?â My father asked sarcastically, âWhat a torture.â
âNo!â David barked. âLiving in fear, feeling like Iâm one step closer to what I want most before having it ripped away from me!â
âDavid, be thankful you arenât in the camps.â He said the word so quietly I almost didnât hear. The camps were where the government sent its captures, mostly children or women. The Clanâwhich was usâfound refugees and offered them shelter and food.
âI am. I am thankful, sir.â
David often bickered with the adults of the Clan. Georgia never really did like him, and Kent only tolerated him because David was his nephew. And Johnny basically had to love him, it was his son. Davidâs mother had a mental breakdown when her sister and mother died in the Disease, she went insane and no one really knew what happened next.
I chose to ignore the argument, like usual. When I argue, I end up hitting the other person. It happened many times before. The sun was beginning to set when we spotted something.
âGeorgia?â My father said to the radio. âWe see him! Heâs leaving Flynn and heading towards Sonling.
âOn our way. Stay safe, you guys.â
Johnnyâs static-filled voice cut the silence. âDavid, keep your gun with you at all times.â
âYes, sir,â David replied.
We parked the car and got out, heading towards the wooded area of the desert. âHeâs right,â My dad said. âTrider, David, only shoot if you have too.â
Just some tips on how to make it flow better, how to build character background, this is the first couple paragraphs to a story based in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Anything that you can think of to help and please point out the errors and what's wrong. Thanks.

Answer
comma splices to fix
throwing a loaded gun is a great way to kill someone accidentally
you introduce too many character names too quickly
Don't tell so much background. Let it seep in through context.

I would like it to be less than 800 miles away and not too expensive along with young children friendly. Camping is OK if it is not too humid of a climate. THANKS

Answer
One of the best vacations I ever had was at June Lake. You can camp, boat, fish, hike, practice your photography or just plain relax. June Lake is close to Mammoth in the eastern sierras. It's 400 miles from San Diego and takes about 8 hours to drive including potty breaks and lunch. The scenery is postcard beautiful. Snow capped mountains ring the lakes even in July. All the campgrounds in the area have very nice facilities. Cabins are available for rent or you can bring your own RV. Tent camping is OK, but there is an occasional bear sighting.

What we did was to use Adventure in Camping. Here is their website. Basically you rent a 5th wheel trailer, tell them what campground you will be staying in and they deliver a really nice trailer and set it up for you. Then when you are done you call them and they come and pick it back up.http://adventureincamping.com/

The kids will have a ball up there.

What is the best beach campground in Santa Cruz?

Mrs. Alvar

Im looking for a beach campsite in the Santa Cruz or surrounding areas like Big Sur. We will be camping in a tent and will have 2 young children with us. My only real requirement is hot showers. All of the sites I have found are an average of $60 a night, which I think is ridiculous. Can anyone recommend something that is not so expensive?

Answer
Have you checked out the state park system? I did a quick search and found a number of state beach campgrounds (Manresa, New Brighton, and Sunset for starters) in the Santa Cruz/Watsonville area for $35 a night.

Things to include in a small child's "power outage" kit?

Stephanie

We just got our power back today after it being off for 3 days. And while it was off I started to think about putting together little "power outage" kits/bags for my kids. OR maybe just one big kit to store everything all together. They are too young for things like batteries to be in their kit. But I was thinking obviously their own personal flashlights and maybe some touch lights. Small packs of crayons and small coloring books. Small battery powered fans (for summer). They aren't really old enough to have their own radios, I'm sure there would be a lot of static instead of music lol. I was trying to think of some games or toys to put in. They have a lot of toys anyway, but I think some small stuff that they don't get to play with all the time would be a good addition. Just list anything you can think of that would be fun or help during a power outage. With the way our power goes out I really need to think of something. Its gone out twice this winter and 2 or 3 times over the summer. And its averaged 3 days up to a week. My children are 3 and under boys and a girl. So age appropriate stuff is a must.

Answer
Glow sticks - can buy in bulk and they're magical to little kids.
A glowing stuffed animal would be fun, too, like the Gloworm toys. It could be a special friend to come out during power outages. :)
Finger puppets would also be fun and easy to store.

With supervision, they could use seasonal stickers (snowflakes, etc.) on paper.
For toys, think of things without a lot of stray pieces like a Viewmaster and a travel Magna Doodle.

Speaking or ViewMaster toys, this projector would be fun on a dark evening:
http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-View-Discovery-Learning-Projector/dp/B0015KU1DU/ref=sr_1_3?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1358724621&sr=1-3&keywords=projector+toy

If your heat goes out, instant handwarmers would be nice.
In hot weather, Frog Toggs and Chill-it both make bandanas and towels that use evaporative cooling; just wet them in the faucet and wring the out for cooling relief. (And they aren't drippy or messy!)
Here's an example:
http://www.amazon.com/Frogg-Toggs-Chilly-Cooling-Towel/dp/B0049RPBWW/ref=pd_sim_sbs_misc_2

If you "camp out" together around a fireplace in the living room, I'm sure they would have a blast with a little play tent. Or, just make your own by draping a bed sheet over a table or build a couch cushion fort!

Answer
A hannah montana party theme would be cool

Other themes?

Celeberty theme..like make them feel like celeberties, dressing up, and you could put shiny stars and glitter everywhere, and have "Paparazi" Taking their pictures the whole time.

Spongebob is always cool.

You could do a "Under the sea" theme, and tie it into spongebob, the little mermaid, finding nemo, or almost anything else having to do with under the sea, or use it on your own. You could put blue celophane over [but not touching] the lights, or rent a blue tent from somewhere, and have netting and fake seaweed on the ground, make paper fish, or buy blow up fish from orental trading or walmart and hang them and place them around. You could also make this a pool party and have some fish in the pool, fake seaweed, that sort of things. Goldfish, pineapples [spongebob] and sushi [if you're brave] and other things like that could be some possible snacks.

Pool party. See if your community pool [or if you have a pool yourself, great] and have a traditional pool party, or put yoru own spin on it. Grilling would be great for this.

which brings me to another somewhat overused theme..Hawiian. You could serve Hawiian pizza, pineapples, star fruit, and other fruits. Have hulla skirts and swimming.

Laser tag is always amaing. Bring her and her friends to the local lazer tag place. Tell the parents they have to send money with their kids to play, but you can either rent a room there for a party, or do it at your place and have the parents drive the kids over. Alawys a hit.

other random themes

Harry Potter
Princesses
Barbies
Artists
Mini halloween [complete with trick or treating through your back yard/ rooms in your house]
Mini prom [they can all dress up, which most girls that age love]
And a trip to the beach/local park is always nice. You could have pizza, or grill, and cake on location.

Hope these help!! Good luck!!

What is the craziest/funnest thing you've ever done in your life?

goodluckch

And did this happen when you were young, High School/college, or as an adult? (I just have all kinds of weird questions brewing in my noggin haha)

Answer
The craziest thing I have ever done was a wet t-shirt contest in Daytona on spring break my senior year of high school. I had sex in a bathroom at Disenyworld when I was 20. My boyfriend had his shoes off, and this little kid asked his dad why the man in the stall had his shoes off, and the dad said never mind that son.....lol.

The funniest thing was when I was on a class trip to a school for the mentally handicapped, I slipped on the wet floor by the pool, and all the mentally handicapped kids pointed and yelled RETARD RETARD, and they were laughing at me. It was so funny. Also one time at the beach me and my friends would run down the beach and then when we got close to people we would fall down and act like it was accident. Also, one time we put dog poop in a couple purses and we took the purses to Walmart and burger king and gave them to employees and told them we had found someone's purse. When they opened it up to look for the person's ID they would get all grossed out. It was soooo funny at the time. Now I'm old and think it's gross, but it was funny when I was young.

I just remembered another thing. When I first got married my husband and I went camping. We bought a tent, that was on sale. When we set it up it was just this little tiny tent. So my husband and I had had to sleep with our feet and legs sticking out of the tent. The camp ground was crowded with people, so the next morning when we woke up this little kid was just standing by our feet. He said my tent is bigger then your tent, and then he just ran away.

Proud mom

I am moving to a house and will needed painted. I wanted to paint and decorate my kids room. Both of them are boys. Three and a five year old. They both will be sleeping in the same room together. I am trying to figure out want to do for them to be happy in our new place and they like cars and balls. I really want it to be special.

Answer
Do you have a bed? If not-here is a link for a loft bed w/a tent. Its so cute. Too bad its not a bunk bed, though. Then you could get the sports bean bags, basketball clothes hamper.. etc

sports bed:
http://www.roomville.com/products/productDetail.asp?PROD_ID=357&DEPid=0&ROOT_dept=0

sports bean bag chairs:
http://www.target.com/gp/search.html/601-6331324-2538546?field-keywords=basketball%20bean%20bag%20chair&afid=yahoosspslp&lnm=basketball%20bean%20bag%20chair&ref=tgt_adv_XSJH1060

I wish my 4 year old wanted sports, I have found many more ideas and things to go with sports. but he wants monster trucks! I may get a tire and dip it in brown paint and make muddy tire tracks over his blue walls. Then hang posters up and maybe even get a wall murial. Also hang or paint road signs. if you do a search on wall murials and/or road signs you will find lots of ideas. the murials are really too expensive for me so I may try to do it myself! (MAYBE) they also have the wall "stick ups" for sports or cars. they are removable stickers. do a search if your interested.
anyway. good luck and have fun!

Why is San Francisco needing to control what we feed our kids by banning Happy Meals?

4woods@att

A great example of Big Government. Most parents control their own kids eating and if they don't it's not the governments business.
I understand you can't get the toy and that's why is so stupid, so why even do it. My kids loved the whole Happy Meal and I controlled how often we went.
Mr Wordy and Mad Max.....it's not up to the gov to control it. Just another facet of them thinking they know what's best for you.
Again, a business shouldn't be told how to market and what they offer.
IT'S UP TO THE PARENTS

Answer
The camels nose is under the flap of the tent in San Francisco. Banning toys is a meaningless gesture, but it is setting a dangerous precedent. The are declaring that the government can tell a business how they can operate. How does a toy in a happy meal effect the nutritional value of the food supplied. Are they lo dim witted that they think that people go there to get the toys and item that McDonald's probably get for a dime a dozen. The best reason to ban the toys is if they were hazardous waste,

How to clean a camping tent that smells like mildew?

How to keep a camping tent clean while camping?

Anita

I will purchase a new camping tent for my camping trip. I wonder is there any way to keep the camping tent clean while camping? Actually, I'm a bit of a neat freak.

Answer
1. Use a ground cloth, or tarp, under your tent. Not only will this keep the bottom of your tent clean, it will keep the floor of your tent dry. Just be sure to tuck the edges of the tarp under the tent so that it does not catch rain.

2. Never wear your shoes inside the tent. When you enter your tent, sit in the doorway and remove your shoes, then place them on a floor mat, rug or towel near the door way. You can even leave them outside by tucking them between the tent and the ground cloth.

3. Bring a Ziploc bag for trash to keep the inside of your tent clean. Don't litter inside your tent--especially with candy and food wrappers which can attract bugs or larger, furrier nuisances. Better yet, throw your trash away in an animal-proof trash can outside of your tent.

4. Pack a whisk broom and dust pan to keep your tent clean. These even come in small, easy to pack camp sizes. Sweep the grit out of your tent every day, and once again before packing it.

5. Never store a wet and dirty tent. If you have to strike camp in the rain or even a heavy morning dew, be sure to pitch your tent again at home to dry. You can pitch it in the sun, a garage or porch. You can even dry it by hanging on a clothes line or over a fence. Clean any stains. If your tent goes into storage wet and dirty, it will come out stinky, sticky and moldy for your next camping trip.

What you need to start a party rental business?

kids tent sale on Princess Castle Play Tent, Kid Tent, Play Tent / China Tents for sale
kids tent sale image

David Wall

Answer
1

Purchase enough equipment to be able to comfortably plan for several parties at once. Create an inventory for each type of party and the equipment you need for it. Paper tablecloths, napkins and plastic utensils are appropriate for some gatherings. Others require cloth tablecloths, flatware and real glassware.

2

Provide catering services or maintain a list of preferred caterers to recommend. Catering options would include everything from birthday cake and soft drinks to pizza and beer for a bachelor party, so make sure you have kitchen facilities capable of handling every request.

3

Have a variety of entertainment options. Clowns and magicians are in demand at children's parties while a string quartet would be more appropriate for an elegant dinner party. Ponies used to be the entertainment of choice at children's parties, but today kids expect a moon bounce.

4

Consider offering a banquet room on your premises for individuals and businesses who don't want to host their parties on their premises.

5

Negotiate with vendors for the best prices on food, supplies and equipment. Learn where the farmer's markets are, talk to wholesalers about bulk discounts and be aware of sales or special offers on items you use frequently.

6

Take all of your costs into account when figuring out the rates you'll charge. Overhead includes rent, utilities, labor costs, supplies, vehicles, fuel and insurance.

7

Purchase at least one large van. Buy a truck if you are providing tables and chairs or inflatables. Approach commercial laundries if you anticipate having to wash high volumes of tablecloths and napkins.

8

Hire waitstaff, laborers to set up and take down tables and tents, kitchen help and office staff like a bookkeeper and someone to keep track of orders and inventory. Work out details like how tips will be distributed.

9

Market your party rental business. Create a website. Run an ad in your local paper every week. Generate business by offering discounts to repeat customers. Word of mouth is important in party rentals, so create incentives for customers to spread the word like special offers.

Where is a good place to go tent camping within about 2 hrs of the Charlotte, NC area?

garnetgirl

It will be me, my husband, & 2 teenage sons, so we're not interested in attractions for little kids. Hiking, fishing, canoe rental & clean bath houses are a plus. :) We've been to Grandfather Mountain & loved it.

Answer
I highly recommend the Mortimer Campground that is in Caldwell County. It's fairly primitive but very remote with very nice campsites and a bath house. At the furthest point back in the campground there is a very cool hike that begins there and does a loop back to the middle of the campground. It's a very rugged hike and maybe 4 miles or so... I can't remember the distance but I did it a couple of years ago and had a great time.

Here is a link to a website that has that Mortimer listed on it. If you click on the map the indicator on the map is in the wrong spot so I'll tell you how to see the camping area. As you're looking at the map zoom in and you see the intersection of the Brown Mountain Beach road and Hwy 90 the (Edgemont Road). The campground is about 100 yards to the left of that intersection on Hwy 90 and not to the right as the indicator will show you. Zoom in on that area and follow the road back into the campground and you can see the campsites a little through the trees. The buildings at the very end is a bath house for sure and I think the others may be as well. http://www.explorecaldwell.com/camping.html

Here is a link to the Wilson Creek visitor center that is along the road to Mortimer. You'll find the folks there to be very helpful. They can help you with trail and camping maps of the area. There are a bunch of trails along there and Wilson Creek itself is amazing to see. Take a look at their website and you can learn a lot more about the area from there. http://www.explorecaldwell.com/visitorcenter.html

Again, this is a very rugged area. The roads are mostly gravel so be prepared for that and don't let that surprise you.

Just above this very area is the Linville Gorge area and the Parkway. I've camped at the Linville Gorge camping area before and it was great. You access it along the Parkway. You'll have very near access to the trials leading out to see Linville Falls. If somewhere a little less rugged is what you have in mind you may want to check this out. Here's are some links for more info

Hope this helps and give you some ideas!
Have a great time!

If I can give you more detailed info about any of the above or other areas nearby please get in touch.

when will you start to plan/think for the christmas season this year?

Brent D

which month this year will you start your planning and/or thinking of the christmas season? I normally start in september which is now not extremely far away! and wonder when others start.

Answer
Already started back in March... seriously !!

- We bought tickets for my wife's brother and his family (wife and 3 kids) to fly from the Philippines to San Francisco in December... two more of his kids live with us, going to college here in the US.
- Made a reservation from a rental company for a 14 passenger van for December to cart the crowd around.
- Made hotel reservations for two nights in San Francisco for tourist stuff before driving the 200 miles to the Ranch.

I've also made a few purchases online for my kids and his... found great deals at the end-of-Winter sales.

Things will really get rolling in September... we usually have 30-40 family / friends / neighbors over for Christmas Day / Supper and like to have the invites in the mail by mid-October (we also put in an invitation with the local Naval Air Station for 5 airmen).

There is a LOT of planning involved for such a large meal / party... and purchasing gifts for the 8 members of our household. I also put up a LOT of lights on our 400 acre ranch... including borrowing a bucket-lift so I can decorate four three story pine trees on the ridge (can be viewed for miles) as well as the two Black Oaks that flank our front gate, and the 20 Oaks that flank the last 100 yards of our driveway (just wrap the trunks)

I also dye our sheep in festive colors... Blue, Red, Green... they look like ornaments grazing in the pasture. We'll have to air out and prepare the guest house, the guest cabins, and the campground tents (big canvas Prospector tents with wood-stoves and beds)... we don't let guests get drunk and drive.

What should I consider when purchasing a winter camping tent?

best large camping tents on The big picture: Eurocamp just got stylish | Travel | The Observer
best large camping tents image

Anita

I am planning my first winter camping and I need to purchase a winter camping tent. What should I consider when buying it?

Answer
Freestanding
Choose a freestanding or dome tent that needs few or no ropes or tent stakes for support. Tent stakes are easily lost, and staking out a tent in the snow can be difficult. A freestanding tent allows you to be flexible with location while still feeling secure in the tentâs structure. Keep in mind, however, that a freestanding tent is easily tossed in windy conditions but can be weighted down with gear on the inside or rocks on the outside.

Support
Four-season tents are designed with snow load in mind and have sturdy, strong support poles. Avoid tents with large, unsupported, low-angled areas that can accumulate snow and possibly cause the tent to collapse.

Size
Choose a tent that's rated for one more person than will actually be using the tent. The additional space will come in handy for bulkier cold-weather sleeping bags and extra winter gear. In addition, harsh weather can force campers indoors more often in the winter, and the extra space can help campers pass the time more comfortably. Furthermore, you may want to consider a tent with a vestibule area where you can leave snow-covered boots or cook inside when necessary.

How to repair a canvas camping tent?

Ivy

I noticed there is a tear in my canvas camping tent. Can it be fixed? How to do that?

Answer
1. Sew the sides of the damaged area together. This is similar to sewing clothing, except that thick canvas may require a large needle or awl and heavy duty or waxed string. These materials are available at outdoor specialty stores.

2. Spread seam sealer or beeswax to the sewn seam. This product is available at outdoor and camping specialty stores, and can vary depending on the make of your tent (canvas or nylon). Follow all product instructions and warnings for proper application details, including drying time.

3. Line up one of the patches so that it is centered with the inside area of the tear. The patch should be larger than the damaged area on all sides by at least 2 inches. Secure the patch with glue, which can also vary depending on the make of your tent. Follow product instructions for drying time; be sure the adhesive is completely dry before continuing.

4. Sew the patch into place to fully secure it. Using adhesive and stitches will help prevent the tear from spreading or from opening again.

5. Spread seam sealer or wax over the sewn seams and the edges of the patch for optimal protection.

6. Line up, glue and sew the other patch to the outside of the tear. Be sure that it lines up with the inner patch, as the two should be the same size. Apply sealer or wax to the seams and the edges of the patch.

What would be some good things for an Easter Party I am setting up for extended family?

kids room tents on awesome circus tent idea for kids/play room! | Cute Decor
kids room tents image

Adamismyna

I am hosting one this year and I am 28, single. It will be kids but only 1 little kid (Easter Bunny aged) the rest are junior high and high school. Some will come and others might not but I wanted to make enjoyable activities.

Answer
List of things to do for an Easter Party

Mummy: Need rolls of toilet paper, one per person. You can form teams to see who is the fastest dressing their mummy (other person) or just let them have fun. This can be very messy with the dust from the toilet paper and the paper fight afterwards.

Picky Marshmallow Relay: Need toothpicks, one per child and one marshmallow per team. The marshmallow is placed on the end of the first persons toothpick. They hold the toothpick in their mouth and try to pass it to the next person in line using only the toothpicks in their mouths.

Clothes Pin 7-Ups: 7 clothes pins per person. Clip clothes pins on the backs of all players and have them face each other in a circle (outside). At the mention of "GO" they each run around trying to get the clothes pins off each others backs. No grabbing and holding on to the other persons.

Talent Show: Video the kids performing to music. Lip sync is fun or air guitar/sax etc.

Nighttime Easter Egg Hunt: Hide eggs and prizes outside. Everyone brings a flashlight to the party. Hide items like fingernail polish, body mists, not just candy.

Piggly-Wiggly: Everyone lays out their sleeping bags. Choose someone to be "it." They must leave the room. Everyone else hides inside the sleeping bags (not their own). When they are ready, "it" comes back in. She sits on one of the sleeping bags and says, "Piggly-Wiggly" the person inside says "oink, oink." 'It' must guess who is inside the bag. If they are right, the person in the bag is it.

Rock and Roll: When your having a slumber party and going to a roller-skating rink is out of the question, make a skating rink in the garage. Parents can back out their cars and take out other stuff in the way so there is room to skate. You can also have music and a snack bar!

Hip hats: Decorate denim hats with jewels and sparkle puff paints and wear them around the next day.

Puffy pillows: Decorate plain white pillowcases with puffy paint. Let them dry overnight.

Popcorn Toppin': Pop some plain popcorn. Give everybody a couple of dishes with popcorn in them. Have your guests put on all the toppings you want. For example, cinnamon and sugar, raisins, melted butter, pizza seasoning, and parmesan cheese to make a pizza kind o' popcorn.

Curly-Cute: Make rag curls in your friends' hair. Take pieces of fabric and wrap hair around them. When you wake up you hair will be all curly.

We Had A Ball: At the end of the slumber party, sit in a circle and sign beach balls with a waterproof marker. Write all about the good times you had together at the sleepover.

Burglar Alarm: Set a little timer and have everyone go out of the room. One person stays in and hides the timer. Then the other children come back in and try to find the timer before it goes off. Whoever finds it might get some kind of prize.

Set up a craft table to make bracelets.

Have a pajamas contest! See who has the best pajamas!

Watch some fun movies.

Pillow fights.

Make smores!!!!!!!!!!
Serve whipped cream and fruit on waffles in the morning.
See if you can borrow a kareoke machine so you can sing along to music.

Do makeovers!

Make rice krispie treats.

Make your own sundae!

Popcorn fights, if you have a vacuum handy.

Decorate some cutie pie cupcakes.

Play boardgames.

Decorate pillowcases with fabric markers...this way they can use them that night. Put on date, etc.

Shaving cream fight out side.

Play telephone.

Have a talent show!

Wacky fashion show!

Have a "theme" for the slumber party such as spa slumber party (perfect for all girls), spooky slumber party, survival slumber party, etc.

Do pedicures.

Think of unusual places to sleep: the attic, a tree house, a tent outside in your back yard.
Scavenger hunts.

What do you advise for a good four person tent?

bruar02

I don't want anything too heavy or bulky, our apartment is small. We have a two person tent, sierra designs lightning. It's too small for two adults, two smaller dogs and our stuff. I was looking at the mutha hubba 3 person tent, it seems nice but I don't want to outgrow it (what if we have kids) so now I'm thinking about a four person tent.

Answer
Depends on how much you want to spend. You have already mentioned two high priced tents of which are really no better the the colman brands or eureka and kelty brands. All three of these tent makers make quality family size tents that fold up into nice convenient size packages. Of these I recommend the Colman sundome series these are nice three season tents that come with a stay dry guarantee that the other three tent makers don't have. And the prices are a third of those high end tents you mentioned.

http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemancom/detail.asp?product_id=2000001976&categoryid=11020&brand=

In the high end category where price is no object I recommend the REI base camp 6 it is a really strong three season maybe four season, pending on where your camping, multi pole and full rain fly tent. Room enough to stand up in, yet an aero dynamic design for windy weather. Its highly rated for multi use and great for base camps.

http://www.rei.com/product/777755

Now for the Taj Mahaul of family size tents where room is of the utmost importance and yet the price is still affordable I go back to Colman tents. I prefer the WeatherMaster 10 its their biggest tent and again the stay dry guarantee.

http://www.coleman.com/coleman/ColemanCom/detail.asp?CategoryID=11020&product_id=2000001598

Bottom line you can spend a lot and get just as much if not more for a lot less. so shop around

What is the difference between "tent only" and "standard" camping sites?

tent camping with small kids on Family Tent Camping With Children | Big Tent Camping
tent camping with small kids image

Mysteryous

I am a single mother of 2 and would like to take my kids "car camping" for a few days. I have never gone on my own before and I have never been responsible for booking campsites for group trips I've gone on in the past.

In trying to make camp site reservations, I noticed on the park map on Reserve America for the park I want to go to that there are "tent only" and "standard" campsites side by side sometimes. The "tent only" sites seem to still be close to the road so it doesn't look like a hike-in type of detail and it says there is a driveway.

If someone could clarify the difference, so I understand the kind of site I should reserve, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thank you!

Answer
Tent only is usually just a very short walk or right next to a parking area to small for rvs. Sometimes that short walk can be quite a ways more than a 100 yards or so. These sites are low cost or free as some are also considered a "hike in" meaning that it could be more than a mile to the site. They often don't need reservations either.

Standard sites are generally car camping sites where you park your car or RV right next to or on the site. Sometimes these may also have electric, water and sewer hook ups for RVs, when they do expect to pay even more. These are also the most popular and will often require reservations and get booked early by as much as six months in advance.

If you are a newcomer to camping and don't have an RV, I would recommend a standard site or one with the upgraded features to have direct access to water and power. This gives you the ability to have it all right where you are and not make that long run to the car for things you store in it. As well as bringing all the possible comforts of home.

Be sure to use a checklist for what to bring so you don't forget anything. Here is a good one,

Mommies! I need your help with the shoestring song!?

kids tents teepee on ... photo of your child in one of my Moozlehome teepees. Beautiful
kids tents teepee image

Bright B

What are the lyrics or how does the song go that guides little kiddies in tying their shoes? My 3 year old wants to learn and I think the song would be a great way. All I can remember is over something, through something, something about a rabbit?!??!?!? Help me!

Answer
Let me begin by saying I am someone who does work in a childcare setting. I am going to share with you some of my resources and I do hope it helps you with this frustrating skill. I know when it came to teaching my son I got very frustrated with it, but I finally have a friend help him learn. The reason she could help him was they were both left handed so he kept trying to do things different than I did it.
Introduction
Many children get frustrated when trying to learn how to tie shoelaces. While there's no miraculous solution other than patience and lots of practice, there are ways that you can help your child acquire this useful skill.
Instructions
Difficulty: Challenging
Steps
1
Step One
Wait until your child is ready. Most children develop the dexterity needed to tie shoelaces between the ages of 4 and 6. Girls are often ready to learn slightly earlier than boys.
2
Step Two
Make sure your child knows right from left before you try to teach him how to tie his shoes.
3
Step Three
Choose one method of lace tying, and teach it consistently. Make sure that everyone who may be trying to help your child learn this skill is offering the same method. Otherwise, he may get confused.
4
Step Four
Make up a game or poem to help your child remember the necessary steps.
Criss Cross Tying Shoes
(tune: Splish Splash I was taking a Bath)
Criss Cross and go under the bridge
Then you got to pull it tight.
Make a loop but keep a long tail
That is how to do it right
Then you take the other string
and you wrap it 'round the loop
Pull it through the hole
Now you got the scoop
Criss Cross and go under the bridge (this is where you tie the loops together)
Now you made a Double Knot!
Sad Rabbit
Once there was a rabbit that was very sad because his ears were so long and narrow that he stepped on them all the time. One day a fairy landed on the bunny's head. She lifted up the bunny's ears and crossed them over like an x. Then she put one ear through the bottom of the x and pulled.
Next, she made each long ear into a loop and made another x like before. She put an ear under that x and pulled again. From then on the bunny remembered how to tie his ears into a bow, and he lived happily every after.
Teepee Tying Story
A Native American made a teepee (pull lace up and cross one under the other) and it collapsed! (pull first "knot" down). So he started another, (make first loop for bow) and he took this string and went around it, (wrap other lace around loop) and went inside, (push lace under new loop) and there he had it! Two Tents! (pull loops for bow) .
This story is great for a group activity where the children can help one another follow the story, and if you make pictures to go with the story the kids can follow the steps by themselves! The story also helps to limit the child's frustration with learning to tie because they are helping the Native American to build a teepee and if they fail it is the Native American who needs more help!
A Story For Tying Shoes
My Shoelace Blues I've tried and tried to tie you, shoe. I've never done it yet. A loop that flip-flops on the floor Is as close as I can get. I've practiced on spaghetti. I've practiced on the mop. I've practiced on my sister until she made me stop. So here's the loop again, shoe. I'll hold it with my thumb. I'll wrap the other end around... And yank it into bows. It's done
Gold Shoes
Paint an old pair of sneakers with gold spray paint and lace with bright colored laces. All the children will want to practice tying their shoes.

5
Step Five
Make sure that you and your child are side by side rather than opposite each other when you demonstrate. That way he'll be able to copy your movements rather than mirror them.
6
Step Six
Give your child lots of praise when he gets it right

INformation about nature's classroom-overnight field trip?

Has anyone ever gone? Any location is ok.
What do you actually do there? Like what's the food like, what activities do you do? If you've been the the one in Ivoryton, what is the site like? How many people are in each cabin, and did you enjoy it? I have a brother who went but he wont tell me about it unless i pay him. xP
Also

I don't know which site you guys went on but we're sleeping in normal cabins, with plumbing and everything, not tepees or covered wagons lol.

Answer
I went on a nature's classroom-overnight field trip a long time ago... 1995 (well long to me ;-p)

We slept in a teepee. Went on hikes, learned about animals, plants, tracking, a slideshow. Food was ok, somedays were better than others. I loved it, especially about the animals.

[add: you can't call it a camp unless you're sleeping in a tent, teepee, or covered wagon. ;-p Just kidding. I hope you'll have fun at camp.]

For the camp you're going to look at it online. I don't know the name of where you are going, but this might be it

I haven't been camping since I was a kid. What equipment do I need? I don't want to spend a fortune on camping equipment, but I need to be comfortable. I am five months pregnant and feeling very sick. I think the outdoors would help me quite a bit. Any advice would be helpful thanks.

Answer
#1 most important thing.

Be comfortable.

Pick out a tent at Walmart/Kmart/Target that is large enough for one of those Coleman (or off brand) air mattresses to fit inside it. Twin size at least. The air mattress should come with (you may have to buy it seperate) battery operated blower/pump, to blow it up for you. If it rains...the 6" thick air matress will keep you up off the ground and dry...even if you have an inexpensive tent.

Try to find a shadey spot, wherever you set up your tent. Tents can get hot in the morning with the sun shining on them.

I'd say the rest ...keep as simple as you can. Setting up and taking down your camp should not the a "big" chore. If it is...your making it too hard on yourself.

My favorite time saver? I gotta have coffee in the morning. I don't mess with a perculator anymore. I buy those big pre-made coffee/filter bag things. Drop one or two in a camp pot...boil...coffee! No mess to clean up.

Keep the "camp" part of it simple. You will have more time to relax, explore or goof around.

Just my two cents...

Have fun!

What should I do for my 16th birthday?

Graci :D

Well my birthday is coming up really fast (you know how the summer is) and I need to start planning. The problem is, I have no idea what I should do for my birthday. I mean, it's my sweet 16, I want it to be special. Or in the neighborhood of special.

I want to do something with my friends. I have maybe 5-10 I'd invite for sure, but those are the closest. I was thinking about camping in the backyard, because we have a big backyard and a big tent.

I need lots of ideas, some that won't make my birthday lame and will make it really fun and memorable.
Thank you so much for the help! c:

Answer
The backyard camping idea sound like fun. Order pizza and serve a nice salad or grill hot dogs and burgers and serve with potato salad and coleslaw or salad. You can serve cupcakes instead of Birthday cake, but for this special occasion I'd want a cake that say Happy Sweet Sixteen.

Tell everyone to bring their best ghost stories or start a scary Stephen King or James Patterson book. If you have Wi-Fi and a Kindle Fire or Ipad, you can even watch scary movies.

Another fun party idea is a Spa Party. You can buy inexpensive facial creams, nail polish and remover, cotton pads etc. in Walmart or other large drug stores. Give each other facials and paint each others nails. Do the spa before or after dinner. Then serve dessert last. For dessert go with your birthday cake and several flavors of ice cream and topping. Let each girl make their own sundae.

Mommies---how was it taking your kid(s) to Disney for the day when they were a year and a half old?

April

Tell me your experience on your day at the Kingdom? Any helpful hints and/or suggestions for the little mousekeeters? We are planning to go just for the day this sum er as a pit stop from St Pete beach while we are vacationing from Indiana. I've always gone with older kids and/or adults.

Answer
We took our son when he was 9 1/2 months and again when he was almost 2 yr and found it to be very enjoyable. Some suggestions I have are to be sure to bring plenty of snacks for him, it can be hard to find something in the parks you'll want them to eat. We also tried hard to keep to his regular nap schedule. I brought a very light blanket and some clips (like clothespins), so you can tent over the stroller for nap time so there are no distractions. I personally wasn't interested in heading back to the resort for an hour nap. Try to find a spray bottle to keep him cool (I just found a non-battery operated one at Target in the "cheap" section-it's awesome). Also if you are going over a very hot time, consider tucking some freezer gel packs around him in the stroller. No point having a miserably hot baby that's crabby.
