Need a summer camp for kids in San Diego, CA?

Desiree M

Looking for a summer camp for kids where they stay over in a cabin or tent, and do activites. Looking for traditional type weekend or week long camps, not day camps. Any info and contact info very helpful. Can go to san dieog, north county san dieog, and orange county, CA areas. We live in N.Co. San Diego. Child is 6 1/2. Would prefer child camp, but would consider a camp where the whole family could attend as well.

Answer
A 6 yr old is pretty young to send off to camp, (it can get surprisingly scary in the dark with people they don't know) but they would enjoy camping with you.

Try regional parks where you take your family

http://www.sdcounty.ca.gov/parks/camping/info.html

also KOA.com is a fun place to go (the closest one is in Chula Vista--camp out for the night then spend the day at Soak City which is nearby!)

heck out camp supply stores like Big 5, it's the end of the season and they may be trying to get rid of their tents, sleeping bags and stuff.

it's camp bonnie brae (if u need 2 know) and im going with my younger sister so... plz tell me what to bring!!
and u can't have cell phones or food so...

Answer
Camp Bonnie Brae is a girl scout camp, right? I went to girl scout camp for ten years as a kid, and then became a counselor. You will have a wonderful time!! I still keep in touch with all the people I met from camp as a child.

So here is what I recommend:

Enough clothes to last you a week (two weeks if there is no laundry service):
- T-shirts
- Shorts
- Pajamas

Double the amount you think you will need of:
- Socks
- Underwear

Also:
- Sturdy athletic shoes that will be good for hiking
- Extra pair of junk shoes
- Flip flops for the pool area and in the shower
- A couple hoodies for night time
- Jeans and boots with a 1" heel if you will be going horseback riding
- A bandana: Keeps hair out of face and covers it when there is no time for a shower
- Two bathing suits (one to use while the other is drying out)
- Poncho/raincoat (a good poncho is what i recommend...covers the most area)
-Laundry bag to put all your dirty clothes in

Toiletries (pack in a ziploc or plastic-lined cosmetic bag to carry back and forth to shower areas):
-Shampoo and Conditioner
-Soap/Body Wash
-Toothbrush/Toothpaste
-Facewash
-Comb and brush
-Hair ties
-Deodorant
-Sunscreen
-Bugspray
-Shaving gear (if needed)
-Tampons/pads (if needed)
-Extra glasses/contacts (if needed)
-Sunglasses
-Medication (must be turned in to camp nurse)

Gear:
-Sleeping bag
-Pillow
-Extra blanket
-Twin fitted sheet
-Tarp or groundcloth for sleepouts
-Lantern for tent/cabin
-Flashlight for night hikes
-Extra batteries
-Backpack for carrying everything around camp during the day
-Crate or box to use as a nightstand (can pack things inside it)
-At least 2 bath towels (one to use while the other is drying)
-2 Hand towels
-Clothesline and clothespins (can tie to a tree or inside cabin to dry towels, wet bathing suits, etc.)
-Extra ziploc bags (to store wet towels and bathing suits while walking around camp)
-Water bottle
-Mess kit (plate, bowl, utensils) for cook-outs
-Mini hand-held fan

Fun Stuff (optional, but are good to have):
-playing cards
-camera! disposables are always best for camp, but make sure you put your name on it
-a few costumey items (wig, silly socks, funny hat etc.) for fun days at camp
-Stationery, including envelopes, paper, pens, stickers, stamps
-Address book: put all your family and friends' addresses in beforehand so you can write to them while at camp, then you can put all your new camp friends addresses in there when you leave
-CD/MP3 player: depending on your camp, these may or may not be allowed. good to listen to during quiet time
-A few books or magazines
-A few bottles of nail polish to do with your friends during downtime

Good luck, I hope you have a great time at camp!

How to decorate for a backyard summer camp party?

tent camping with young kids on pop up baby tent shelter 2166. The smallest of our beach uv tents ...

Q. My 3 year old daughter is having a camp theme party and want to decorate so you really feel like you are camping

Answer
Make a large wooden sign at the entrance to the "Camp Site" and have other signs pointing the way to the toilets and showers, picnic area and wildlife trail.
Set the tents around a central seating area with the campfire as a centerpiece. Lay out low benches for sitting on or just use mats or planks of wood balanced on rocks.
Decorate the inside of the tents with streamers and balloons
Around the edges of the camp, erect some citronella torches. These will keep the bugs away and add to the camp atmosphere.
Place cuddly toys in the tress and bushes for the younger kids to discover or for the older kids, hang plastic bugs around the camp. Use glow in the dark bugs and stars which will be fun later on when it gets dark.
Hang multi colored Chinese lanterns around the garden. Some kids just can't help playing with candles so be careful where you place them.
Set up a food table and cover with green or camouflage cloth. Use plastic tableware or tin plates and cups. Provide bug stickers for each child to personalize his/her own plate and mug. It saves muddling them up.
You can also add:
Bug stickers and tattoes
T-shirts with the name of the camp and date of the birthday camping party

What is the best place to camp in California with children that is not too far north and not too far south?

keypsake

My husband and I want to take our 3 young children (ages 7, 5, and 3) camping for the first time over summer vacation (June/July). We live in Stockton, California and to not want to drive more than 2-3 hours. I have been to Yosemite several times and think my children would enjoy it more when thay are a little older. I have also been to Calaveras Big Trees several times and like it, but I want to try someplace new. Any suggestions?

Answer
If you are tent camping or a cabover close to your area is a pretty 10 site campground at kirkwood. A small lake for the kids to fish. hiking is great. I like lake almanor for a big rig. Nice paved bike and walking trails. Deer come to join you for breakfast. Bucks lake and little grass valley are nice for that time of year. both at 5200 feet and cooler than the valley. I am a ritired camp manager and love to see familkies spend quality time together camping. Have a great time where ever you decide.
