What are some toys that kids of all ages can play with?

B

What are some toys that kids ages 6-12 can play with together? There is also a 1 1/2 year old. Preferably something that can be played with outside and at least 4 or 5 kids can play with at a time or take turns playing. Something the 1 1/2 year old would enjoy too if you can possibly think of anything to fit with that age. We are already buying a slipping slide and sand toys. Does anyone else have any suggestions? Something that isn't very expensive either. Thanks.

Answer
these are things my kids play with and they are a girl 6 and boy 3.

soccer ball

jr football or foam one might be better

Frisbee

a rubber ball for playing kick ball with bases. you can make ur own bases and the dollar tree did carry them

jump ropes

kid size rakes

plastic t ball

paint, lots of paint and boxes or posters are 2 for a dollar at $ tree
Spray paint a big huge box, let them i mean, and make a play house outta it.

How bout a tent? If not that, they could make a fort using kit chairs and blankets and sheets and stuff

if you have a table, uno and other games without tiny pieces might be good. My daughter loves uno!

horse shoes is fun too, they make them mobile kinds so you can bring them in when your done with them

kites are a $ at the $ tree too

who doesnt like bubbles or bubble blowers? You can get an awesome bubble blower at wal mart for not too much like 10 or 15 dollars and its GREAT LOADS OF FUN

potting soil and seeds is fun too

dont forget the boom box, gotta have tunes outside right?

I hope this helps it was just off the top of my head!

activities for kids...?

Chrissy

Hi Ya'll,
I babysit 3 girls ages 1, 3 and 5. Mainly it's the 3 & 5 year old for an 8 hour period and then the 1 yr old for 4 hours. They are really active (always going going going!) and I was trying to think of some activites for them to do while inside? Being outside is fine but there parents don't want them out for an excessive amount of time due to heat/sun so when they are inside I need something amusing to do for at least an hour or two at a time. Anyways, they usually don't sit still for movies very long but I did just buy playdoh, a coloring book, chalk (sidewalk), and a playdoh activity kit which I hope will keep them amused. Any other ideas...?

Thanks!!
~Sarah

PS The girls do have there own toys to play with, but they usually get bored within 10 min. (just aren't "cool" anymore) so please dont suggest that. It never works! haha. :o)

Answer
I love children.. I highly sujest getting a babysitting bag together. Most children are not interested in their toys because no one has really sat down with them and show them how to play with the toys.. Get your self on a schedule play time with them. Since you are the one person that is around them the most a schedule is the best. And they really respond to order..
Children at this age Love Love 3 and 5
Story Time (make different voices to fit characters)
Puppet Time
Dress Up
Make a tent out of the kitchen table or in living room..Or in the bedroom..
The five year old should really be into playing mommy and the three year old is just starting in this area. So playing house. Which leads to play time in the world of imagination..
Pretend Cooking, Baby care, cleaning, Rest rant, This activity will and can go on for hours and they like to play it almost daily.
Playdoh is a great activity I agree make sure to cover the floor if it is on carpet..Be ready to have the colors mixed. The three year old will love to mix the colors and the older one will want them kept separate. So maybe their very own play doe for play doe time. Stinging big beads on a shoe lace../Ball time play..each needs own ball and also together time. rolling it on the ground.learning to catch.. the five year old should like tossing the ball up in the air..
Five Year Olds:
Teach sack-walking and "twist-em," "statue," or "freeze" games to provide an outlet for their drive for physical activity.
Play games that can teach right and left directions, like "Hokey-Pokey," "Looby-Loo," and "Simon Says."
Ask 5-year-olds to tell you a story. Write it down and post it on the wall or refrigerator
Three Year Old
Play musical games such as "London Bridge," "Ring-around-the-Rosie," and "Farmer in the Dell. Also they love to jump and hop.. show them "how to hop like a rabbit, tiptoe like a bird, waddle like a duck, slither like a snake, and run like a deer.Box play and anything they can hide in.. Making silly faces..
One year old..
will love play doe too.. All will love bubbles..ball play too..called "Roll it to me"

Have Fun.. Hope this helps. ^^

How do you keep your kids from jumping out of their crib?

sxenerdx <

My son is 21 months old and learned how to jump out of his crib. He use to be really easy to put to bed. Just lay him down and he would go to bed. Now he jumps out and plays in his room. I took all of his toys out thinking it would help but it doesn't. It takes me an hour and a half or more to get him to go to sleep. I know he's tried because sometimes I go in, and he is laying on the floor playing with his toys or holding his animals and just lays there. But the second I lay him down he jumps right back out. I'm at a loss at to what to do.
I need HELP! I work nights and so the only time I can sleep is when he sleeps. He usually takes two naps a day and yesterday I had to fight for him to take one. I'm loosing it but he just won't sleep. His dad told me that he kept jumping out of his crib at 3am. He is fed, changed, and nothing is wrong except that he likes to jump out of his crib. Please help!!!
Oh I'm not playful AT ALL! I'm very stern with him and have been from the start. I can not handle no sleep all week long. I usually let him play for 15 minutes before going in and putting him back in.
With the toddler bed, I know he will just do the exact same thing. But it's easier for him to get out of a toddler bed. That's why I haven't switched him yet. I see this being worse if he were in a toddler bed. How do you keep them in toddler beds?

Answer
Most do switch to a toddler bed once their child can get out of the crib, but they do make a "crib tent" which clips on over the crib so that little ones can't get out (or in the case of the family cat, get in). Here's one example: http://www.snugglebugz.ca/crib-tent-ii-deluxe.html

Instead of letting him play for 15 minutes, promptly go put him back in his crib (or toddler bed). By allowing him to play for 15 minutes you've taught him that if he climbs out he can play for quite some time (and usually become more awake) before you put him back in the crib. This may mean you're sitting right outside his door for a few nights until he falls asleep, but he will get it.

Other than "Tots in Mind," is there any other company that makes a crib tent?

Beth G

The "Tots in Mind" crib tent doesn't have great reviews and I can't find a competitor. Any suggestions are great!

Answer
We used the crib tent, the Tots in Mind one, and I'm surprised that it got low reviews. It was great. At first, we just wanted to keep the cat out of the crib before my first child was born then to protect him from the cat if it happened to sneak in during a night feeding etc. Later, we used it to keep my son from climbing out of the crib (he started at 14 months, a little too young for us to really want to move him to a toddler bed).

I loved it. The only down sides were that the zipper was noisy and after awhile the netting started to separate from the sides because it was so tight and we used our lift up/down cribside a lot.

I was going to use it again for my second child but realized we didn't need to -- the cat would run miles before jumping in the crib with the kids as they scare him to death. But, once my daughter was a little older, I quickly found out that my daughter's pacifiers were constantly falling to the ground and it would wake her up. So, I was constantly feeling around on the floor in her dark room in the middle of the night with a screaming child. This was never a problem with the crib tent as it kept them inside.

I debated putting up the old one but decided it was too "used," there were a couple holes along the zipper, so I'd have to buy another one to be safe. But, spending all that money just for dropped pacis seemed ridiculous, so I settled on the crib shield -- no tent part, just netting around the sides. It's four pieces instead of one, holes on each corner, and she kept pulling apart the velcro. I can't tell you how many times I wondered why it wasn't made like the crib tent, which goes around everything (under the mattress, up the sides, attaches to the rails VERY securely, and then the tent part). I even debated making one exactly the same just minus the tent part and becoming a millionaire. ;)

Anyway, depending on what you need it for, I think the crib tent is a good choice. Keeps cats out, climbing kids in, pacifiers within reach of the child etc. The zipper part was a bit of a pain, but at some point, the child does become used to the noise. I haven't ever seen any other brands of crib tent type things. The closest I was able to find was the crib shield by breathable baby.

ETA: Just realized I should add...we used Cloud and Stars QuickZip sheets (link below) not regular crib sheets. This probably added a lot of benefit to the tent as I can see how using regular crib sheets would be really frustrating with the crib tent as it's very hard to take the mattress out. But, with the QuickZip sheets, if you have an accident, you just zip off the top part and zip on a fresh one. You still need to change the whole set, which is a pain, but not as often as you would have to if you use regular sheets.

What convinced you that Sandy Hook witnesses must have been actors?

kids jumping tents on Moonwalk Bounce House is a Great Place for Your Kids to Enjoy with ...

Iain

Gene Rosen seems deranged, and has a crazy story that kids were dropped off at his house instead of a nearer FEMA fire station. He listens to a story about teacher being shot and waits half an hour before calling police. Hmmm.

Meantime the aerial fi;m of the school shows that there were no ambulances - and no possibility of them entering because the roads were all blocked with random cars! This is insane - with literally dozens of uniformed cops wandering about eating doughnuts, where is the panic? 600 kids in a "lockdown school" and bullets which went through walls and double glazing without changing size hitting a car outside, and there seems no urgency to rescue anyone.

Just up the road the DHS was doing a SHEEP - sorry, HSEEP - exercise of a shooter in school that morning. And then, wow, suddenly a real one breaks out around the corner. Better get those actors over there fast?

Why were there no kids in evidence, and how could they assume out of 26 shot people, all were dead? Naturally you'd have injuries left and right, but it seems nobody saw anything, except the kicking in of a door and a few bullets, pop pop pop. Then we get parents hamming it up and grinning from ear to ear with Obama - while their kids are lying dismembered in a tent.

Except H Wayne Carver says it's not a tent - he seems drunk - it's this magnificent - THING - and he giggles. How many bodies? He doesn't know. Ages? No idea. Bullet calibre? Doesn't know. Shouts the question out though in the hopes of someone else answering. Bodies returned to parents? No idea. Oh, they have some refrigerated trucks which will fool you pesky journalists! Tee hee, he says.

How reassuring that must be for bereaved parents - that their kids are thrown into a fridge while they do their laughing act with Obama. None of it makes any sense at all to me, but what convinced YOU that Sandy Hook must have been a con?

Answer
Clearly what some people don't get is that since there was a drill taking place, the whole town does not need to be involved. Perhaps there were actual children being traumatized by the drill. Children are often terrorized and very frigetnened by fire, tornado, and lockdown drills. A very small number of people would have to be involved in actual fakery. If actual children were killed, it was most certainly not done in the way the government indicated.

There is no way that 26 families would go along with only seeing photos of their dead children, with no live identificationas the coroner asserts happened. I assume that your respondents who don't get it have not actually watched the coroner interview. I lived through a murder investigation when my brother was murdered, so I have a little bit of an idea of what normally takes place. People need to see the dead body in order to go through the normal grieving process.

To answer your question, the final clincher for me was probably the nurse who could barely contain her excitement and joy at being interviewed by George Stephanopolous. I mean the laughing Robbie Parker, the joking coroner, the smirking cops, the starstruck Soto family, I could maybe explain away indiividually. But all of the combined joy was a bit too much to handle.

Obviously the media did not tell us the whole story of what occurred at that school. The fact that so many Americans don't get that we are being regularly lied to is unfortunate. It obviously upsets those conspiracy theorists when someone tries to interrupt their Sandy Hoook soap opera with reaility. They think we are conspiring against them in refusing to jump on their bandwagon.

If you cut your own childhood short, like you didn't watch cartoons because you were too "old" for cartoons. Or too mature to play tag, could that affect you later in life? Like a person gets sucked back into things that they missed as a kid.

Answer
Yes. I forced myself to grow up, because I felt that being child like was immature. What I didn't realize was that there is a difference between being child like, and child-ISH, the latter one being more the definition of immature. There is nothing wrong with being child like. To be like a child means to look for the joy in every experience. Live for the moment. Do things that your heart desires to do, without caring what others think about you. I think kids know more about their true self than most adults do. I look at my daughter, and she knows exactly what she needs to be happy. And it's always something simple. Like a hug, or a good laugh, or a good story.Think how easy it is to please a child. They have no worries, they live for the moment and enjoy the ride. We as adults are still capable of dealing with adult responsibilities, and still be child like as well. When I grew up and had kids, the child in me started to come out again, because I had suppressed it for so long. And I can tell you that I have no greater feeling of joy than when I play with my kids. We make up stories, we build tents, we play zoo, and army men, we jump on the bed, I even play with them on the McDonalds' playground. Being child like keeps you young, and helps you remember what is important in life- joy and love. That's all a kid needs to survive. Be child like for as long as you can. You will feel no greater sense of freedom.

What are some games and activities to play while babysitting 3 boys?

Squeegee B

I babysit for this family quite often. Their kids are 7, 5, and 2. I always bring games, activities, videos, and books for them so they don't ever get bored while I'm there. (All 3 kids are boys!)Normally I do "themed" nights (We've had Baseball Night- play baseball, eat hotdogs for dinner, and watch a baseball movie. We've had 4th of July- fireworks craft and make cookies with red, white, and blue icing. We've had the Olympics Night and so on...) I'm kind of running out of ideas and activities and games to bring. Normally I'm there at night for 2 or 3 hours (7-10 pm) and the 2 year old is asleep by 7:45 and the other kids go to bed at 9:00... What are some more activities I can bring or games we can play that will be fun for them???
Take into consideration that they really don't like to play games that involve competition... One of them always loses and cries.

Answer
Well, first, congratulations on coming up with "themed" nights. That sounds like fun!

They're still pretty young, which severely limits how much you can do, but let me see...

Bugs Night...Watch A Bug's Life and make "Ants on Log" (Celery, Peanut Butter, Raisins) and/or "Worms" (Crumbled Oreo cookies, Gummy Worms). For a craft, you could make little insect toys/dolls.

Race Car Night... Watch Herbie the Love Bug (or equivalent) and have them make their own race cars out of cardboard boxes so that they can race - non-competitively- around the yard. You could make car-shaped cookies.

If they have a favorite TV show, you could do a night based on that. For example...Wiggles Night. Have a Wiggles marathon and make crafts and recipes based on what they watch (fruit salad jumps to mind).

I hope that helped inspire you!

EDIT: Okay, I've thought of a couple more.

Camping Night...Set up a tent and sleeping bags in the living room. Eat hot dogs, s'mores, and tell "scary" stories around the campfire, I mean, flashlight. Perhaps when their parents get back they can join them down there.

Healthy Night...A night where you teach them about the Food Pyramid, and they learn what various parts of the body do (heart, lungs, etc.). I'm sure there are movies out there about it. They could have an impromptu "teddy bear clinic." Have them help you put together a balanced meal.
