It will be me, my husband, & 2 teenage sons, so we're not interested in attractions for little kids. Hiking, fishing, canoe rental & clean bath houses are a plus. :) We've been to Grandfather Mountain & loved it.

I highly recommend the Mortimer Campground that is in Caldwell County. It's fairly primitive but very remote with very nice campsites and a bath house. At the furthest point back in the campground there is a very cool hike that begins there and does a loop back to the middle of the campground. It's a very rugged hike and maybe 4 miles or so... I can't remember the distance but I did it a couple of years ago and had a great time.

Here is a link to a website that has that Mortimer listed on it. If you click on the map the indicator on the map is in the wrong spot so I'll tell you how to see the camping area. As you're looking at the map zoom in and you see the intersection of the Brown Mountain Beach road and Hwy 90 the (Edgemont Road). The campground is about 100 yards to the left of that intersection on Hwy 90 and not to the right as the indicator will show you. Zoom in on that area and follow the road back into the campground and you can see the campsites a little through the trees. The buildings at the very end is a bath house for sure and I think the others may be as well. http://www.explorecaldwell.com/camping.html

Here is a link to the Wilson Creek visitor center that is along the road to Mortimer. You'll find the folks there to be very helpful. They can help you with trail and camping maps of the area. There are a bunch of trails along there and Wilson Creek itself is amazing to see. Take a look at their website and you can learn a lot more about the area from there. http://www.explorecaldwell.com/visitorcenter.html

Again, this is a very rugged area. The roads are mostly gravel so be prepared for that and don't let that surprise you.

Just above this very area is the Linville Gorge area and the Parkway. I've camped at the Linville Gorge camping area before and it was great. You access it along the Parkway. You'll have very near access to the trials leading out to see Linville Falls. If somewhere a little less rugged is what you have in mind you may want to check this out. Hope this helps and give you some ideas!
Have a great time!

If I can give you more detailed info about any of the above or other areas nearby please get in touch.

How to throw a fun high school party?

Alexis

I'm a freshman but I'm friends with a lot of upper class man and I don't want them to think I'm lame or give me a bad rep if I throw a shitty party. I'm fine with drinking and smoking and I'm having a dj there but what else should I do?

Answer
1

Identify a theme for your party that appeals to teenagers. If the teenagers are all fans of a movie series, like "Twilight," you can use this theme for your party. Or, you can host a Mexican fiesta, Hawaiian luau or 1980s bash. You can even encourage your guests to come in costume, which will loosen them up and put them in a party mood.
2

Decorate your home to match your party theme. A festively decorated party will get your high school guests in the mood for a celebration. Choose table linens and colors that match your theme and consider a novelty item to add to your decorations. You can set up a chocolate fountain or rent a photo booth, which adds to the decor and gives your teen guests something to enjoy when they first arrive. (see Reference 1)

3

Design a menu that appeals to high schoolers' tastes. High schoolers would rather socialize than sit down for a formal meal, so choose snacks and appetizers they can eat while they mingle. Finger sandwiches, egg rolls, hamburger sliders and chips and dip are easy-to-eat snacks that high-schoolers will enjoy. Have plenty of food on hand. Growing teens will eat.
4

Plan activities for your teen guests. A few activities will break the tension and force guests to interact. Play some of your teen's favorite music and let kids dance. Host a limbo contest to get everyone moving. Divide the high schoolers into teams, and send them on a scavenger hunt around your home. Give the winning team a prize, like a gift card for music downloads.
5

Keep the party moving. As the host, it's upon you to make sure that guests stay entertained. If you sense awkwardness between your teen guests or boredom setting in, challenge the guests to a game. Bring out the desserts if guests are getting restless.
